The whole Lyles situtation and now this episode with the car and the weed and the QB apparently not being suspended at all makes Oregon and Kelly come off as a joke. Too bad ESPN is to busy filing another FOIA request with OSU that they can't report on these happenings at Oregon. By the way--what has Kelly ever won at Oregon, besides a bunch of games against a watered-down Pac-10?

Imagine if TP was a passenger in a car where everyone was high and got pulled over for gong 118 mph?

didn't Oregon play for the effing national title last year. How is this not news.

They did show a brief excerpt of the video on CFB Live yesterday. It was late in the show (they spent almost all of it on Miami, as they should have), and about the same time they talked about Pryor saying he took more benefits from Sarniak.

But they just talked about the story briefly with the video in the background, and really didn't highlight it like they could have. They didn't ask some talking head if Kelly should suspend both of these guys for the opener against LSU, and have the guy say that Kelly's a joke if he doesn't do that (Harris is suspended for at least the opener).

I'm not sure if Oregon just got lucky with the timing of the Miami story hitting the same time that the video came out, or if somebody was sitting on it and said, "Now's the time to release this, it'll hardly get noticed."

Thomas is bad luck as a passenger. Or maybe as a so-called team leader, he shouldn't be riding around with guys that are getting high, going 118 mph, or street racing.

Oregon's Kelly standing by Thomas after incident

...
Thomas has been in the wrong place before.

Last summer he was a passenger when then-quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was stopped for a traffic infraction and marijuana was found in the car. Masoli, who had earlier pleaded guilty in connection to an unrelated burglary incident, was later dismissed from the team by Kelly.

Thomas was also a passenger in 2008 when linebacker Eddie Pleasant crashed while street racing in Springfield.

He was not cited in either of those incidents.

After the police video came to light on Tuesday, Kelly defended his quarterback: "I'm not punishing someone for being a passenger."

"Darron Thomas is the leader of this football team," Kelly also said. "I have absolutely no question about it. Describe his leadership? He's as good as I've been around."
Thomas and Harris were not made available for comment on Tuesday. The Ducks closed practice at Autzen Stadium on Wednesday, something that had already been planned.
...Kelly said he believed his players' claims that the marijuana was not theirs, but admitted that its presence in the car was disquieting.

"It always concerns me whenever there's anything like that around our players," he said.

It's called guilt by association, you stupid dick. Three times he's been in the car with someone doing something illegal, but his complicity in all three cases is somehow not worthy of any punishment? Give me a fucking break.

Beware of coaches that wear visors during night games.

Well, In similar fashion, Legarrette Blount was coaxed into hitting that Boise State player. It wasn't his fault. Even though coaches have been fired for doing that on a field, Blount didn't know what was going on. He was in an emotional tornado at the time.

Highlights From Oregon Football Stars Traffic Stop

Posted by Brooks on Aug. 17, 2011, 1:21am

Highlights from the Cheech and Chong-inspired Cliff Harris and Darron Thomas ?we smoked it all!? traffic stop:

Included:
  • Harris saying, ?we smoked it all? when asked by Oregon State Patrol officer, ?whose got the marijuana in the car??

  • Harris at one point claiming he had no drivers license of any kind. (OSP officer: ?Do you have an Oregon drivers license?? Harris: ?No sir.? OSP officer: ?Do you have a license out of another state?? Harris: ?No sir.?)

  • Thomas also being in possession of zero identification of any kind.

  • Harris claiming he didn?t know who owned the car he was driving during a previous traffic stop - which had resulted in his Oregon driving privileges being suspended.

  • The Oregon State Patrol officer asking if he could ?take a look at? Harris? Pac-10 Championship ring. The same officer later let Harris and Thomas drive away after Harris was cited for driving 118 MPH and in possession of zero identification - let alone a drivers license. (Along with obvious signs of recent marijuana use in the vehicle - including Harris? own admission of drug use.)

  • When asked if Harris? ?we smoked it all? admission was a concern, Chip Kelly saying, ?No, because I saw Cliff pass a sobriety test that the officer let him go on.?
