They are 1-1 in the Rose Bowl during their recent run of success. If they had won 3 or 4 in a row I could see where players may have this attitude. You still never say it out loud.

The sad thing is, I've seen posts on here saying the Rose Bowl doesn't matter any more. I think that's ridiculous too.

If you're not playing for the crystal football, the rest of the bowl games are just exhibitions. With that being the case, why not be proud our team plays for a shot to go to the classiest and most storied one of them all?

I'm 33 years old. The Buckeyes have been to three Rose Bowls in my life and one of them I was too young to remember. The Rose Bowl is still a very big deal to me, even as a supposed consolation prize.

Absolutely. As a Buckeye fan, each year I hope for the following:
  • Win the B1G
  • Beat scUM
  • Play in the Rose Bowl
To me, anything else is gravy...and that includes playing for/winning a NC. The Rose Bowl is still a humungous deal to me. That's why 1996 & 2009 are amongst my favorite seasons ever.

I'm old enough to remember the Rose Bowls in the 70's, some good memories, some bad. I will ALWAYS consider a B1G championship and a trip to Pasadena as an extremely good year! Of course the "97" game against ASU is probably one of my most watched old games!

The 1st Rose Bowl I watched was 1954. TV was just black and white then. I always wanted to go to the Rose Bowl but that will never happen at my age now. I have many Rose bowl memories but like many of you I agree that there is nothing like winning the grand daddy of them all. And the beauty of it all back in the early days of the Big Ten was that the winner of the Rose Bowl got to go and the rest of teams could not play in any other bowls. I think this was 1 reason that the BIG was such a powerful conference. Now things have changed and
more teams are awarded a chance to play in any bowl, if they are qualified.

I understand everyone saying f the crystal football and enjoy the ride. And I will enjoy a rose bowl if that's where we end up, but there's a reason the coaching staff was talking about "the chase for 8" all offseason. And the team has come out there and played with their hair on fire 10 straight games, so if we're 13-0 and heading to a matchup with the p12 champ i won't be able to help but feel a little dissatisfied. And i'm sure there will be guys on the team and staff that will feel the same way. That said, smacking the ducks around will ease that pain i'm sure

I can't say I've seen that, but maybe people have said that. I've seen, and feel even a little myself, that IF we don't play for a NC being UNDEFEATED, then the Rose Bowl will feel slightly empty. If we were in Oregon's shoes, technically undeserving of a NC, and we were then going to the Rose Bowl then yea that would be 100% outrageous. We're in kind of a unique situation here, the kind that's only happened once in the entire BCS era.

I will be excited either way. We need to beat a big name team to restore our image. Beating Oregon in the Rose Bowl would be huge for our reputation going forward. No one cares that we beat 20+ mediocre teams in a row. It is what it is.

Thats not the first time I have seen someone say that.. and I dont get it. Did our reputation get fixed when we smacked them in the mouth with prior and co.. then you have the people saying we need to beat an SEC team to get right, but I seem to recall an OUR-kansas game that didnt seem to dampen the anti-BIG10 rhetoric.. this "reputation" we have is not of our own doing and short of curb-stomping one of ESPN's greatest of all time teams I dont think there is much we can do to change it, at least not on the field. This reputation is not earned, it is given. Until we can find a way to either fight back against ESPN and CBS or convince them to help us rather than hurt us its not going to change.

The Oregon team we beat was not like the recent Oregon teams. The 2009 team wasn't coming off back to back BCS wins.
They were still a ZOMG11!!! SPEED!!!!! team that was supposed to blow our doors off. After they shit the bed in their opener at BSU, they averaged over 43 points per game over the last seven games of the season leading into the Rose Bowl. We shut them dowm, holding them to 17 points.

We beat Arkansas (a middle of the road SEC team) by 5 points. They had the ball inside our 20 with minutes left. I wouldn't say we smacked them. You can argue that we should have smacked them, but it didn't happen. Arkansas was 8-5, 5-7, and 8-5 in the 3 seasons prior to that game.

Beating Oregon in 2009 is not the same as beating Oregon in 2013. Also, to get respect from Beating the SEC it has to be an SEC power team like LSU or Bama. No one outside of Ohio cares that we beat Arkansas with the Tat Five.

No one outside of Ohio will give a shit if tOSU beats Bama this year. You and others seem to be under the impression that this perception is totally based in reality.

It's Not.
