Oregon Ducks (aka U of Nike)

:slappy:

people wanted a playoff. Playoffs take the emphasis off the regular season and put it all on an end of year tournament.

This is the dark side of it.

Exactly. Saw this on an oregon board (from what seems to be a non-oregon fan):

I just don't know what they want to CFP to do here. Should OSU be gifted a better seed because they should be better than 10-2 and because they have the "most talented" roster in CFB? Or should they be given the seed they earned based on their performance on the field during the regular season? I watched the shitty games versus Nebraska, Northwestern, TCUN and even some of the meh games versus other overmatched opponents where OSU looked bored and disinterest. Regardless of preseason rankings and talent on paper, OSU was not playing like a team that deserved a bye -- they earned an 8 seed based on their wins and losses.

When the committee starts seeding based on what they think about the talent on the team rather than what the team has actually accomplished, we're going to end up with a garbage playoff packed with SEC teams that underachieved because "we can tell they are one of the 12 best!". Fuuuuuck that. Seed based off of how the teams perform and nothing else. If Bama and Ole Miss and South Carolina and aTm lose 3 games, they get left out. Period. I don't want the committee ignoring results and shoehorning teams in just because of their names and the 5*s on their roster. They didn't earn shit this season so don't reward them because of the name on the jersey.

This is what the playoffs are! Teams get hot at the right time and outperform their seeding sometimes. It sucks as a high seed when you run into a peaking lower seed, but its also what makes playoffs exciting. You can't demand a March Madness style playoff for college football and then get upset when you get it. This IS March Madness, dummies! Were the #1 seeds crying about unfair seeding when #7 Uconn and #8 Kentucky were playing for a title a few years ago? Or did they recognize that those two teams underperformed during the regular season both hit their strides at exactly the right time? You have to beat the teams you play no matter who it is.

In other words, shit happens, bum juice. Deal with it.

I want them to remove a minimum of 6 teams from the field.

and that's why the playoffs suck.
the season starts Week 0, not Dec. 20.

the National Championship is supposed to be a reward for having the best SEASON.
not necessarily having the best TEAM.

want to win a Natty?
don't lose.
or pray everybody else in the country loses more than you do.

Well, sure, I'd take that in a heartbeat. Two & three loss teams shouldn't be playing for national championships in college football in my view. (Especially not in 2007 when there was a 1-loss team clearly superior to any two-loss team that they would have had to play in a title game. )

But ignoring that and living in the playoff world we live in now, I want them to continue rewarding teams for on-field performance and to ignore the eyeball test that some espn shills seem to think is the best metric for deciding who deserves to be there.
