OL Taylor Decker (Detroit Lions)

Hard not to be impressed with Meyer at this point. This class was supposed to be part of our unwritten punishment from the NCAA. And he has almost single-handily turned it into a building block for the future of this program.

Let it be known though that I'll be rooting long and hard for those early commits that stuck by us through the tough times. They may not be most heralded recruits, but they are true Buckeyes in every sense.

I agree but let's give some credit to Luke. He kept the class together and one of the reasons why Pittman and Washington committed. He has kept us in the hunt for Bradley as well.

Decker Could be Building Block for Buckeyes
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? It did not take long after Urban Meyer took over at Ohio State for him to realize that he had a problem.

Taylor Decker could be part of the solution.

For those who don?t know, Decker is only a high school kid. There is no telling what kind of college player he will become over the next four years, but he plays a position that could very well hold the key to Meyer?s immediate success in Columbus.

?I don?t know how good he can be, but I do know that he?s one of the best players in Ohio,? said John McCallister, a former high school football coach who scouts high school talent around the state of Ohio.

?Not everyone agrees with me. Probably the best player in the state is Adolphus Washington, the defensive end from Cincinnati Taft. But, I think Decker is the kind of kid you can build a team around.?

This. Does anyone know if Vandalia Butler plays against the elite Dayton are programs every year? I.E. Centerville, Huber Heights-Wayne, etc.

They are in the same division of the GWOC with Trotwood-Madison. Troy and Piqua, while not at the same level as Wayne or Centerville, are usually decent.

According to the GWOC website, neither Wayne nor Centerville have rotated on to Butler's schedule going back to 2005. Being a large conference with three divisions I'm not quite sure how they have it all set up.

Wow indeed. Impressive film. Reminds me of Alex Boone's HS film a bit. He's just so much bigger and stronger than everyone else on the field. I'm not sure what he's putting up in the weight room, but the way he's rag dolling folks, I bet its more than what Boone could put up back then.

I can see why people might say he has a "lazy streak". Every so often (and it must be late in games), he doesn't move his feet at all. He waits for the action to come to him. Still pancakes the guy and puts him on his back, but a S&C program would make him into an animal, especially with regards for his stamina and how quickly he can shuffle his feet. He also latches onto one guy and doesn't go to the 2nd level, but that's something easy he can work on.

Outside of that, he's got everything you're looking for in a LT. The times he's not waiting for the action to come to him, he's bursting straight through his man and taking him towards the sideline. In time, I would LOVE to see Decker at LT and O'Connor at LG. Would be complete mayhem for the opposing team.

Huge improvement from his junior film. I love his nasty streak and his initial pop he gets when engaging the defender. He is also great at picking up defenders in space and getting square on his blocks. He won't be able to throw people around in pass coverage at the next level, but once he learns how to use his long arms to keep DE's at bay, he is going to be special. All the tools are the for Taylor to be a star here.
