OL Reid Fragel (Official Thread)

ESPN - Programs must go national to find system-fitting players - Football Recruiting

By Bill Conley

Updated: October 21, 2008

Reid Fragel (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South), a recruit from Michigan who committed to Ohio State, recently criticized the Wolverines for being "disrespectful" toward prospects on their home terrain. In a Columbus Dispatch article, Reid said the fact that the Wolverines are concentrating so heavily on prospects outside the state is only going to alienate in-state prospects and help Michigan State.

The film clip is called "Reid Fragel rocks the competition" but it is only one clip of him catching a ball down the seam and taking it to the house. His combination of size and speed is evident. He looks to be a bit taller than Ballard but doesn't have the mass yet (give him a year in OSU's weight program). If he can keep that speed he could certainly be the next Ballard-type TE at OSU. His height alone is going to cause some mismatches and I did not expect to see that kind of speed from such a big kid.

He looks quite a bit faster than Ballard. He outran two DB's half his size and both looked pretty quick. He better enjoy it now because there's 4 years of blocking ahead of him. :wink2:

Scout (free) -- Offense Defense: West Notebook

Tight Ends
Tough to tell a whole lot out of this group today. They did some blocking work and Reid Fragel really excels there. His technique, size and ability to move at that size makes him a great run blocker. He runs much better than a kid who is 6'8, 250-lbs should. He will surprise more and more people as a receiver as this week moves along. His counterpart, Ryan Hewitt is not the physical specimen that Fragel is, but he made a couple of nice adjustments on the ball.

Scout.com: Offense-Defense: West Morning Practice Notes

Maybe the offensive player of the morning? Reid Fragel. He erases whoever is across from him and pancaked a couple guys today. He also is the only player who can block Ty Phillips. Later, he showed he wasn't just a blocker, going high above a linebacker to catch a pass up the seam. After not getting many passes thrown his way this season, I expect Fragel to be a favorite target of the quarterbacks here.
