OL Orlando Pace (7-time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl Champion, CFB HOF, NFL HOF)

My personal all time OSU ofensive line has Pace at one tackle and John Hicks at the other. Thats two of the better OT's to ever play the game.

BTW watch this video, it starts out as a highlight reel from the 1996 PSU game and after 30 seconds its just play after play of Pace destroying people.

Rams' Orlando Pace says knee is fine and he's ready to face Dolphins

By Jim Thomas

After suffering what looked like a four-week ligament injury to his right knee against San Francisco, left tackle Orlando Pace could return after missing just one game. Pace had full participation in practice Thursday and is scheduled to start Sunday against Miami.

"It's good, good to go," Pace said following Thursday's practice at Rams Park. "It's a lot better than I thought."

With an injured right knee and a Rams season already down the drain, it would have been convenient for Orlando Pace to sit out the Miami game and more.

But the seven-time Pro Bowler was back at left tackle after missing just one game. The initial prognosis called for Pace to miss two to four weeks. With just six games remaining when he suffered the injury Nov. 16 against San Francisco, missing the rest of the season wasn't out of the question.

"For the past couple years, I've been injured," Pace said. "This wasn't a season-ending injury, but I just wanted to play, man. You have a greater love for the game once you've sat out for a while. And I think that's where I'm at right now in my career."

Rams notes: Pace appreciates playing time more because of injuries
By HAL PILGER
THE STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER

It?s obvious that time and the rigors of the NFL have taken their toll on St. Louis Rams left tackle Orlando Pace, no longer the Pro Bowl-caliber offensive lineman he once was.

But the 12-year NFL veteran and former No. 1 draft pick out of Ohio State can?t be accused of not giving it his all this season.

Despite an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his right knee on Nov. 16, a problem that threatened to end his season early for a third consecutive year, there was Pace last Sunday, helping prevent the Miami Dolphins from recording any sacks against struggling quarterback Marc Bulger.

After an early prognosis that suggested the 33-year-old Pace could miss up to four weeks with the injury ? or perhaps even be placed on injured reserve ? he took the field with a knee brace for the first time in his career. And that, despite knowing the two-win Rams already had eliminated themselves from a shot at postseason play.

?I just wanted to play,? Pace said. ?I haven?t played (a whole season) for a while. When you are injured, you have a new desire for the game, and for the past couple years I have been injured.

?I think you have a greater love for the game once you have been out for a while, and I think that?s where I?m at right now in my career.?

Said Rams coach Jim Haslett, ?He came back in a week. He played well, especially in the pass game. He was against (linebacker Joey) Porter most of the time, and Joey is leading the NFL in sacks (14?). I thought he did a great job on him.

?It just shows you what kind of competitor he is. He?s a tough guy that wants to come out there and play.?

Rams say hello and maybe goodbye

(From left to right) Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, Leonard Little and Orlando Pace

But will Sunday?s 2008 home finale be it for Rams mainstays Torry Holt, Leonard Little, and Orlando Pace?
.
.
.
Pace and Little were more philosophical on the topic, but realistic nonetheless.
"My future? I?m just trying to get through the day," Pace, 33, joked. "Every year from here on out, I?ve got to evaluate my future."
But barring a serious injury in the final two games of 2008, Pace wants to keep playing. Because he has been rehabbing from surgery the past two offseasons, Pace hasn?t had a full offseason to train since the winter and spring of 2006.
Does Pace want to come back?
"I?m under contract, so for the time being it depends on what they decide to do," Pace said. "Who knows? You (reporters) probably know more than I know. If they decide to keep me here, I?ll be more than happy." Pace has three years left on his contract, but there is no amortization of signing bonus beyond the 2009 season. So it would be less expensive in terms of a salary cap hit if the team decided to part ways with the seven-time Pro Bowler after this season. (Pace is scheduled to count $9 million against the cap next season, with a base salary of $6 million.)

Cooper recruits audience at Danville Raccoon Dinner

cooper.jpg

DANVILLE ? More than 750 dinners were served at the 2006 Danville Lions Club Raccoon Dinner, held Monday in Danville. Keeping with the 62-year-old tradition, raccoon was served as the entree, along with a full course of mashed potatoes, dressing, green beans, raccoon gravy, cake and fresh, homemade cornbread.

The Danville Jazz Band performed for the attendees in the Danville High School auditorium followed by the main event, a presentation by former Ohio State University football coach John Cooper.

Cooper never stops recruiting, which was made evident by the way he engaged the full-house audience with his tales of growing up in Tennesseee and his coaching career. He also shared some of his recruiting secrets for football and a successful life.

Cooper opened with a bit of self-deprecating humor. He said there are two kinds of coaches: Those who get fired and those who are going to get fired. Copper was dismissed from Ohio State University after serving as head football coach from 1988 to 2001.

Cooper said he grew up in rural Tennesseee, one of six children.

?We lived so far out in the country you had to come toward town to hunt,? said Cooper, adding that while growing up poor he had eaten many things, but the Lions Club dinner was the first time he had eaten raccoon.

Cooper said his Boy Scout leader and high school coach influenced him most while growing up. He credits his coach for planting the seed of a career as a football coach.

?He said having me as quarterback was like having a coach on the field and that I would make a good coach someday. That stuck with me,? said Cooper.

IN JOHN COOPER?S WORDS

John Cooper? We?ve had a bunch of corners go to the next level. Some of them played who are no longer in the league like Ahmad Plummer. He was a No. 1 pick who?s not in the league anymore. Of course you?ve got Antoine Winfield, Shawn Springs and Nate Clements. There?s a ton of ?em.

?Two things we did. We started nationwide recruiting and we kept these kids here 12 months a year and worked them out. When you go nationwide recruiting, you?ve got to ? I used to tell people: ?You?ve got to sell John Brown what John Brown buys. You?ve got to see things through John Brown?s eyes.?

?In other words, these guys all want to win football games. They want to get an education. And ? these academic people at the university don?t want to hear this stuff ? but thease guys all want to play on Sunday. If they?re good enough, they want to play in the NFL.

?I told ?em: ?If yiou want to play in the NFL, come to ohio state. We?re going to run a pro offense. We?re going to run a pro defense. You come here and we?ll get you ready to play in the National Football League.

?We played a lot of man coverage on defense. We played a lot of bump and run ? basically the same coverages you see in the NFL. Man, Cover-2, Cover-3. And we haad a ton of great wide receivers ? probably as many good wide receivers as defensive backs. Terry Glenn and David Boston and Joey Galloway.

?These guys went against each other every day in practice. Saturday was a picnic for them. If you?re out there covering Joey Galloway every day in practice like Shawn Springs was, on Saturday afternoon you?re not going to face Galloway.

?And then once you start getting guys going ? just like the kid you?re talking about (Northmont?s C.J. Barnett) ? he wants to come to Ohio State because of the great legacy we?ve had with corners ? it sort of snowballs.?

Big "O" could be released?

That bring us to Holt and Pace. The Rams would free up $8 million of cap space by cutting or trading Holt by June 1. They'd save $6 million by cutting or trading Pace by June 1.

So in essence, the Rams would double their cap room ? from $14 million to $28 million ? by dispatching Pace and Holt. These would not be easy decisions. Pace and Holt have been to seven Pro Bowls a piece. They were mainstays of the Greatest Show on Turf squads. They have conducted themselves in exemplary fashion on and off the field in St. Louis.

But with the arrival of Spagnuolo, the franchise is two coaching tenures removed from the "glory days" of Rams football. Will the wave of change sweeping over Rams Park extend to Pace and Holt ? a pair of Hall of Fame candidates?

NFL scouts, front office executives and coaches offer a variety of opinions regarding Pace. Some feel he's near the end of a great 12-year career and doesn't have much left. Others feel he's still an effective player, although not what he was a few years back.

The danger, of course, potentially comes from casting Pace, 33, aside too soon. The best recent example is left tackle Willie Roaf, who enjoyed several fine seasons with Kansas City after being tossed aside by New Orleans.

And if Pace goes, the Rams' hand would be forced. They'd have to add a starting tackle via free agency, the draft or trade.
