OL Orlando Pace (7-time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl Champion, CFB HOF, NFL HOF)

Pace Holds Up

MEQUON, Wis. ? Although he is almost certainly sore Sunday, left tackle Orlando Pace is probably enjoying the pain that comes from the day after playing in a football game.

Pace started and played about a quarter against the Titans in Saturday night?s preseason game with no complications from his surgically repaired shoulder other than some rust.

?There?s a lot of rust I have got to knock off,? Pace said. ?It?s tough to gauge. This was a real test for me just going out there and using it. I need to be more consistent with it and I think it will just get better with time.?

Pace's shoulder suffers setback

Despite coach Scott Linehan's initial insistence this week that Rams tackle Orlando Pace was suffering only from soreness, it turns out the seven-time Pro Bowler reinjured his right shoulder in Saturday night's preseason game.

"I did it when I was trying to make a tackle (after an interception). I landed on it pretty hard," Pace said Thursday. "I didn't even think about it ... I didn't even feel the swelling until Monday, when I came in and I couldn't raise my arm too high. That was a little concern for me."

The good news, Pace stressed, is that neither the rotator cuff nor the labrum ? both torn in last year's season-opener ? were damaged. "That's one positive that came out of landing on it like that," he said. "At least you know the structure of the shoulder is back."

Pace hadn't practiced since Saturday's game until Thursday. It's uncertain whether he'll play Saturday night when the Rams meet the Baltimore Ravens in a preseason contest at the Edward Jones Dome.

"We're going to see how it feels tomorrow," Pace said. "Hopefully the swelling will go down a little bit and I'll be ready to go."

Pace didn't make it through the first half of the first game last season before he was hurt. He underwent surgery Sept. 20, followed by intense and lengthy rehabilitation. Linehan has been cautious with him during training camp, at first holding him out of most drills, and later often alternating Pace and Adam Goldberg during the most strenuous practice periods.

Personally..........Pace was the best offensive lineman I have ever watched play at tOSU......simply amazing how quick he could get to the second level......I remember feeling sorry for a few defensive backs during the 96 Notre Dame.

My personal all time OSU ofensive line has Pace at one tackle and John Hicks at the other. Thats two of the better OT's to ever play the game.

BTW watch this video, it starts out as a highlight reel from the 1996 PSU game and after 30 seconds its just play after play of Pace destroying people.

Rams tackle Orlando Pace grimmaces in pain as he left Sunday's game against Philadelphia. While Pace held onto his shoulder, his injury was to his ribs. (J.B. Forbes/P-D)By Jim Thomas

PHILADELPHIA ? As he headed to the sideline, it looked as if Rams left tackle Orlando Pace had injured his left shoulder with 10? minutes to go in Sunday's 38-3 loss to Philadelphia.

"That's what I thought, too," coach Scott Linehan said.

Given that Pace's 2007 season ended on opening day with a right shoulder injury, this would have been a disaster times two. But it was "merely" a shot to the ribs.

"He got the wind knocked out of him pretty good," Linehan said. "But it didn't have anything to do with the shoulder."

Left tackle Orlando Pace has been around Rams Park since 1997. He has seen Dick Vermeil go from being on the coaching hot seat in 1998 to a Super Bowl championship following the 1999 season. He has seen the architect of the Greatest Show on Turf, Mike Martz, leave in a messy divorce with team management following the 2005 season.

Pace's take on the current coach-in-crisis situation?

"I've been here for a long time," Pace said. "I try not to worry about that. I understand it's a business situation they have to make, and that's it."

COLUMBUS - Former Ohio State coach John Cooper (1988-2000) will be at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Ariz., today when Arizona State takes on Georgia.

Rams can't write off troubles as rebuilding

SEATTLE ? This was the worst sort of athletic misery of them all. Utter hopelessness.

As he stood in front of his locker stall in the Qwest Field visitors' locker room after yet another Sunday afternoon massacre ? this one a 37-13 romp by the Seattle Seahawks ? Rams tackle Orlando Pace slowly shook his head and let out a sad and dispirited sigh. "Man, I don't know, I just don't know," Pace said as he grabbed a dress shirt off a coat hook. "This is the worst situation I have ever been around."

He shrugged those broad shoulders, rolled his sad eyes and frowned with the helpless expression of someone who had been asked to extract all the sand from the Sahara with a plastic spoon. Of course the task was much tougher than that. Someone had just asked him if he knew the solution to the biggest mystery of all: How do you fix what ails this moribund franchise?

"In all my years (in football) I've never been through something like this," Pace said. "This is all new territory to me."

Just a few feet away from Pace was a large, black suede bag from one of the seven Pro Bowls he has played in. It was a distant remnant of the glory days of this franchise, when people were talking about the Rams as if they were on the verge of becoming the NFL's newest dynasty. When someone asked him if he could still remember those days, Pace frowned again and let out another exasperated sigh.

"Those years? Those great years?" he said. "That was light-years ago, man. Light-years."

Left tackle Orlando Pace suffered what appeared to be a groin injury later on that series. As a result, Goldberg switched to left tackle, and Brett Romberg came in to play left guard, seeing his first action of the season.

Pace may miss game against Cowboys

Goldberg would fill in at left tackle

BY STEVE KORTE - News-Democrat

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Rams coach Jim Haslett isn't panicking over the possibility that Pro Bowl left tackle Orlando Pace could miss the team's game against the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday.
Pace didn't practice on Thursday due to a thigh injury, making him questionable against the Cowboys.
Haslett said he was confident that journeyman Adam Goldberg can fill Pace's big shoes if necessary.

Orlando Pace.

He's a nice player because he can play either guard and either tackle, and he's a tough guy, he's competitive, and he'll do a good job when he's in there this week," Haslett said. "I feel good about him being in there."
Pace was optimistic about being able to play against the Cowboys.
"It is cool, it is getting better," Pace said. "I haven't done any pushing or anything on anybody. I think I am going to be fine."
Pace said he planned on participating in practice today.

For those of you who are going to the game, please remember this: The guy led to us to a ton of wins against Penn State and Notre Dame. The Eddie George sweep plays were always amazing to watch. A ton of NFL talent came through Cooper's teams. He truly was a stellar recruiter (Sans the QB spot). And, he is a Buckeye at heart.

So, for just this game, forget 2-10-1. Forget the Big Bear Tub Boy commercials. Remember the good times. Remember the '93 win against Penn State and the other big wins against Paterno. Remember the '95 and '96 wins against Notre Dame. If you want to remember Michigan games, remember '94 and '98 games. Most especially, remember the '96-97 Rose Bowl victory. Just remember that he always gave everything he truly could to this program. He was just, as Mr. Clutch stated, a decent coach and a poor motivator who got a very long shot at this university since we ousted Bruce so quickly.

If I hear any boos on TV, I will be very, very upset and disappointed in this fan base. This is a time for celebration.
