OL Michael Brewster (Official Thread)

Brewster wore his glittering 2010 conference championship ring to the conference's media days event, even though Ohio State has been forced to vacate its 12-1 record of a year ago. Maybe it was Brewster's way of reminding everyone that the Buckeyes aren't going anywhere.

Or maybe it was Brewster's way of giving the media the middle finger. Either way, I like it.

Of all the guys that have to deal with what's going on right now, I feel the worst for Brewster. The guy is so gungho about Ohio State, it sucks that his final season will be played with a cloud over the team. We can only hope his attitude rubs off on the young guys coming up.

While I feel bad for Brew...he doesn't. Guy works his tail off and makes no excuses. He wants a Big 10 championship and a shot at the title, and that is what he is working for. I've been around quite a few players but nobody impresses me more than Mike Brewster. If I could choose just one guy to go to war with and lead the way, it would be Brew every time.

I found this strange considering Brewster was named first team All-Big Ten by the conference media and second team All-Big Ten by conference coaches last season.

First Team - Peter Konz, Wisconsin
Second Team - David Molk, TSUN

But I'd never mistake Rivals.com -- or any Pay Site -- for being objective or informative, so the list doesn't matter. No preseason list really matters. Just found it strange.

Mike Brewster Named to Lowe's Senior Class Award Candidates List
Senior Buckeye has excelled on and off the field for Ohio State

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Thirty NCAA? Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as candidates Tuesday for the 2011 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

Michael Brewster, a native of Orlando, Fla., was one of 30 student-athletes selected Tuesday. The OSU center, Brewster enters his senior season on the preseason Rimington and Outland Trophy watch lists. Last year he was a Football Writers Association of America first-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten selection. He anchored an offensive line that helped its unit average 38.7 points per game, which was 11th best in the nation. Brewster enters the year having started 36 straight games, dating back to his freshman season.

Brewster has also contributed his time to the community, spending time at the James Cancer Center and the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Previously he has helped the LifeCare Alliance, Dublin Baptist Church and read to students at High Point Elementary.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School?, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 2011 candidate class includes four Associated Press All-Americans from last season. Eight of the 30 have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. Five of the candidates were recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America as 2010 Academic All-Americans. Twelve of the candidates play for teams ranked in the USA Today preseason top 25 poll.

Lowe's, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award? winner during the 2011 football bowl season. The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
