OL Marcus Hall (The Bird Man of Ann Arbor)

Could OL Hall be swayed from OSU or Miami?

Offensive lineman Marcus Hall (Cleveland/Glenville) is one of the country's top prospects who has yet to select a college. Hall welcomed in Ohio State coach Jim Tressel for an in-home visit on Wednesday. Miami coach Randy Shannon will visit with Hall on Thursday.

Hall has made official visits to Ohio State, Miami and Michigan. After visiting Miami last weekend, Hall said he had narrowed his choices down to the Hurricanes and Buckeyes and had decided against an official visit to Tennessee this weekend.

But now Hall has changed his mind again.

"I'm going to visit Tennessee now," Hall said. "I'm enjoying the recruiting process, and (Glenville) Coach (Ted) Ginn says you are only going to do this once, so I might as well take the visit."

However, Hall has not changed his stance on his two favorites.

"It's still looking like its coming down to Ohio State and Miami," Hall said.

Hall does not plan to hold a press to announce his choice of college. He says he will simply call the coaches involved sometime Monday, and then tell the media over the phone.

Maybe Hall will be leaning on Marlon Brown a little this weekend...:sneaky:

I was thinking about this as well. If you were a recruiting coordinator, would you keep them two separate, or would you let them mingle? I've been on recruiting visits where they didn't let the recruits they kind of felt they weren't getting hang out with the rest of the others. Walt Harris is the main coach I can think of who did this.

Nothing like a recruit scorned.
Probably an unnecessary comment. He has never, to my knowledge, ever said a bad word about tOSU, JT, or anyone else. This kid loves Ohio State. I am sure he is disappointed that he didn't get an offer but unfortunately we just don't have room in this class for him. I for one hope he does very well at Tennessee.

I don't pretend to know Marcus or to have ever spoken to him...but let's look at this objectively:

When a kid says he is basically taking a visit for the heck of it, are you really that worried?

Does anyone really think the new staff at Tennessee is going to swoop in at the last minute and pull off a stunner over the home school that he has built a relationship with over the last two years?

Does anyone really think Mike Edwards choosing Tennessee is going to play that big of a roll in Marcus' decision? So much so that it trumps the fact that Rowell, Whitner, Rose, Small, Browning, Newsome and Hines are at OSU...not to mention Melvin Fellows and Chris Fields?

Is anyone surprised by anything Marcus says to Rivals/Scout anymore? I would be having just as much fun with this process as Marcus is if it were me.

And lastly, IF (and I mean that is a monstrous if...like a size 7 font IF) Marcus opts for somewhere other than OSU, will the sun not come up the following day?

That's the last I am going to say about it...wake me when he verbals somewhere.

I know when I was Hall's age, when I heard from pretty much everyone (and "everyone" for me is a lot fewer people than for Hall) that I should do something, it really turned me off and made me consider the opposite a lot more. I'm not saying this is happening in this case, as I don't know the kid, but I think this happens with a fair number of Ohio kids who ultimately choose to attend a different school than Ohio State.

If they feel confident about Marlon verballing to them, they might try to put them together even more to see if they can sway Marcus to come south.

I wish Marcus luck on his decision! He'd make a nice cherry. Or sprinkles. Gotta have sprinkles.

From the Miami Herald...

OL Marcus Hall, 6-5, 295, Cleveland (Oh.) Glennville:

Hall visited Miami on Jan. 23 and told nearly every national recruiting website it was going to be his last trip. Turns out, according to Glennville offensive coordinator Matt Chinchar, Hall isn't done yet. He's visiting Tennessee this weekend. The U.S. Army All-American definitely enjoyed his trip to South Florida and has told everyone close to him he's really considering the Canes. But he was also seriously considering Michigan not that long agom too. And now, his new flavor of the week is Tennessee.

UM's chances: Slim. You would like to think you could take a kid for his word, but in this case I get the sense Hall is playing some games and telling people (reporters and friends) what they want to hear. The truth is, the only person he really wants to make happy is his mother. And mom wants him at nearby Ohio State.

Eye on the U

There is a major difference though.. Marcus is playing games with the reporters... NOT the coaches, like Boyd.

Precisely. We - like the press - are begging for these teenagers to jerk us around.

You can make the argument that kids are consuming coaching and financial resources by making visits to schools where they have no interest. However, most coaches want top prospects to make visits anyhow on the off chance they could be blown away.

Agree on all points

also, when the players are from top high schools like Glenville. the word of mouth factor from a kid visiting your school to the other players on his team, even if they have zero interest, would probably make it worth it for the coach and the school
