OL Justin Boren (Official Thread)

Doesn't matter. They have Barwis. He could probably take my 6'1, 165 LB ass and turn me into an All Big-10 OL.

No, he could turn you into an all Big East OL. There's a difference. :wink2:

I think it's funny how the scUM fans are all just assuming he's leaving because he's soft - and not because he's tired of being around annoying jackasses like Fraudriguez and the rest of the scUM fans.

Even if he never sees the field, if UM lets Boren come to OSU, you take him as a walkon. The PR damage would be astronomical... boren pays for his recruiting decision, literally... only proven starter on struggling UM offense would rather pay and sit on OSU's bench than stay at UM...

OSU almost went 2 full years without losing a single OH kid to UM head to head... this certainly would not help change that trend.
gonzo, downing, saine, beanie, etc
For OH8ch, Jwins and Sandgk;
:bow::bow::bow:.

No Lil , I was seriosly questioning it.

Can't imagine him passing up a schollie to be a Buckeye, particularly when our cupboard is anything but bare, but if he did it he could become my all time favorite player. Has a transfer between these two schools ever happened?

Yes it has (kind of)... "J.T. White" played for the Buckeyes and for the Wolverines. He played for the Buckeyes through the 1942 National Championship season then went to serve in WWII. He then attended TSUN and won a National Championship in 1947 for them.

If he DOES come to tOSU, he'd still have to sit out a year. By then, both of our guards (Rehring and Person) will be graduated and we'll graduate another guard in the 2-deep (Mitchum). He would be a starter at tOSU at LG with the RG likely to be Conner Smith. Not only would we be able to finally unite Justin and Conner, but Justin would be able to play the same position he did at scUM.

Depth chart is very favorable and he could play extremely close to home (whether a good thing or not) if he came to tOSU. I think it would be a no-brainer if it weren't for that scholarship clause within the Big Ten. I think Cincy would be a great place for him if he does choose to go there. Brian Kelly's doing great things down there, he'd be able to get that scholarship, and he'd still be close to home so his family can come see him play.

That bit about him not being able to handle the conditioning program at the new scUM is the funniest thing I've heard all day. Some of those scUM fans are tooting their own horns way too loud about their S&C coach.

Barwis could turn the invisible man into an All-Pro Left Tackle ...

They are getting dangerously close to having to test that ability.

My only fear is that this makes kids like Watt or Hall take a much longer look at UM. But that is for another thread.

Hope the kid gets it worked out.

RE: Boren is gone

We all know what happened - his vag dried up. Retire #65 because only quitters wear that number.

Wow. Just... wow.

I followed this kid's recruitment and was disappointed when he chose to go to UM, but understood his reasons for doing so. He seemed like a decent young man to me, and I wished him well insofar as I was actually capable of doing so. I will continue to wish him well no matter where he ends up. I hope he finds Ohio State to his liking. I think there's room for him here. It seems to me there may not be room for decent young men at M*ch*g*n anymore.

Detroit Free Press has an article up on Boren's Departure:

Their surmise for why he left?

You guessed it - that old softie tag:

“I don’t know if we’ll have any more, but we’re forging ahead with the guys who play for Michigan,” Rodriguez said.

The first-year U-M coach refused to discuss specifics, saying he talks only about guys who play for Michigan.

But Boren told much of the story 10 days earlier, following the team’s first spring practice.

That day he cited the change in the offense and how grueling the first workout was.

He said he had early thoughts about the process and the difficulty of the new conditioning program and how difficult it was for the offensive linemen having to run constantly back to the line of scrimmage in the no-huddle offense.

“We didn’t know what to expect, a lot of screaming and yelling, a lot different, but we’ll get used to it,” Boren said that day. “It’ll just take time.”

The departure was not a shock after those comments ....
Bolded part is mine - not the words of someone who is eager to quit because he is "soft."

Whether he ends up at UC, UF or the other U of M I bet he'll be playing with a chip on his shoulder.

Also noted this in the TSUN Recruiting thread - RR in that article expects schollie count to be in the 70s for 2008. :yow:

I know how it works and how quickly fans can turn on their own, but the Michigan reaction to Boren - the anchor and future of their line only two months ago - is among the most hypocritical I can recall.

That freep article is a joke. It takes an old quote and presents it as if Boren just said it today so they could pass it off as the reasoning for his decision. Considering what we know about Boren and what we know about his new coach, the much more plausible conclusion to jump to would be that he didn't want to spend the next two years playing for a total dick.

However, one of the things Kelly said himself about his O-line last year was that the unit was not at all suited to his offense. (even though he was very proud of the way they worked to run his O, they couldn't handle the no-huddle very well and couldn't get to the points of attack in his scheme like he would ideally want) They were big power road-grader types. Like Boren.

I don't think physically he would fit in there any better than with RR. Although undoubtedly he would fit in better psychologically / emotionally.
