What a shocking turn of events. Whether J. Boren's future has anything to do with Ohio State or not, I wish him the best. RR seems intent on tearing down the old program to the point of loosening the very underpinnings of the team. If events keep following the trend of the last 3-4 months, RR's honeymoon period won't last long in Ann Arbor.

Mitchell and Boren!!! Damn thats a whole new offensive line!!! I know they were gonna have to learn the new system but geez. That at the very least hurts depth. Better hope 1-2 starters during the season or you might be starting 2-3 true freshmen.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan guard Justin Boren, expected to be one of two returning starters on the Wolverines' offensive line next season, has left the team.

Coach Rich Rodriguez told reporters at a Tuesday night news conference about Boren's decision, but declined to discuss specifics.

The junior from Pickerington, Ohio, was expected to start at left guard or center after starting every game last season for the Wolverines.

It's looking more and more like a bleak year for TSUN fans, just when they thought they had an immediate answer to their prayers after years of frustration.

You gotta love how internet experts pronounce on a kid's toughness, when they probably wouldn't have lasted five minutes on a practice field in their prime.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. ? Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez says offensive lineman Justin Boren has left the team.
Rodriguez told reporters at a news conference tonight about Boren's decision but declined to discuss specifics. Boren, who came to Michigan from Pickerington, Ohio, was to be one of two returning starters on the Wolverines' offensive line.
A telephone listing for Boren was busy when called tonight. An e-mail seeking comment from Boren was sent by the Associated Press.

That's one of the reasons I like this board: the mods take out the trash frequently. But it doesn't obscure the fact that there are morons among the fan base of every major program, and they all seem to have internet access.

You just have to wonder what took place to turn a kid who was raised maize and blue, dad played at UM off.

Who left when Coach Tressel took over as far as players? I know that some were dismissed (Marco Cooper comes to mind) but I can't think of anything like this that happened. If anything it seemed like Tress ran COACHES off the team. I thought Bill Conley and Dave Kennedy would be there forever.

Justin's heart belonged to Michigan. Hell his younger brother CRIED when he found out that Justin was even considering Ohio State. This has to be a tough time for the family.

Maybe I'm more understanding because he's an Ohio-boy, but I think Boren made the right choice to leave.

I don't think his departure is not indicative of a flawed character, but rather a reflection on RR's seemingly combative style of leading transformation and managing change. There is a big difference between disagreements that lead to a parting of ways and conflict that breeds bitterness and engenders defections.

Justin was wise to extricate himself from that snakepit up north... He will be recognized as an asset and a leader in any other program that seeks to mold, rather than carve out young talent. I admire his courage and I wish him well.

We talk a lot about how RRs system does not prepare QB's for the NFL. It is possible that his system does not prepare OLinemen either in that they don't learn pass blocking. Perhaps that was on Boren's mind - considering the Michigan he signed up for ran Pro sets.

I wouldn't underestimate RR. Attrition is not a big deal if you are getting players who really want to play for you. A lax 5 star is worse than a one star who plays with all of his heart.

When push comes to shove I tend to agreel. You have to make your own team and RRs approach is different enough to warrant a lot of changes. We would be foolish to view any attrition problems to last beyond one season and even then it could be offset by changes to S&C. There will be problems in the interim - and I will relish every one of them. And it remains to be seen how RRs coaching style translates to a major program and kids who have lots of options as to where they play ball. But it is premature to dismiss RR and UM as a potential winning combo.

I do challenge the word "lax" in relation to Boren. "Lax" OL recruits work their way into the two-ddep as redshirt Juniors. They don't start as RS Frosh. The linked article reads like Boren is soft, but read it in the context of who wrote it and why.
