As we continue the Ohio High top 100 countdown, we get to the higest-rated player to make an out-of-state commitment so far. It seemed for a while like offensive lineman Justin Boren might be headed to Ohio State despite his family's Michigan roots, but he decided recently that he couldn't see himself playing against the Wolverines in college. Click the link to check out his capsule, written before his commitment to Michigan.

U-M's Boren adjusts to center

Son of the former Wolverines linebacker learns to like position he didn't want to play.

Angelique S. Chengelis / The Detroit News

ANN ARBOR -- Playing center was not Justin Boren's first choice.

But when his Michigan coaches firmly suggested it would be his future, Boren, who was recruited to play guard or center, went with it.

It's not like he had much choice.

"At first, I wasn't too hip on playing center. ? I (didn't) want to play center," Boren said. "When they told me to start snapping, I couldn't really say, 'No.' So, I just started doing it."

Boren, whose father, Mike, was a linebacker at Michigan, is the Wolverines' starting center. He entered as a guard, but toward the end of last season, he gradually -- whether he knew it -- began making the transition to center.

During Rose Bowl practices, he worked almost exclusively at center, as was the case during spring drills.

"The biggest thing is all the responsibilities," Boren said. "Now, I like it. I really enjoy playing center. It's a challenge, all the responsibility you have of calling the whole defense and you're running the offensive line."

Boren, 19, who grew up in Pickerington, Ohio, near Columbus, was highly recruited. He narrowed his choices to Michigan and Ohio State before deciding to follow in his father's footsteps with the Wolverines.

Michigan lineman's fast rise no real surprise
Sophomore from Pickerington is used to starting

The Columbus Dispatch
When Michigan offensive lineman Justin Boren suffered a broken bone in his right leg last year, it only delayed the inevitable. The injury at the start of fall practice stalled the Pickerington North graduate's bid to become a freshman starter, as he was at Pickerington High School in 2002 before shifting to Pickerington North after the district split.
Boren isn't one to wait long. By October, his injury had healed. On Oct. 7, 2006, he made his Michigan debut, playing off the bench against Michigan State. Three weeks later, he started against Northwestern, becoming only the fourth offensive lineman in the program's history to start as a true freshman.

Rumors popping up on scUM boards about two more offensive lineman leaving the team, including a starter. The starter's name being mentioned is Boren. If this is more appropriate for the rumor mill, I apologize.
This isn't the first time Boren & transfer rumors popped up either... it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

If this is true, that is really bad news for ttun. Unless I'm mistaken, they're already thin on the OL, and a bad line will make implimenting a new system a nightmare.
