OL Jamarco Jones (Detroit Lions)

Here are the negatives: Vrabel, despite not being his eventual position coach, was his main recruiter, he has several Core6 teammates committed to MSU, they were a close second when Jamarco chose OSU back in June last year, and this is obviously not a "free vacation" because East Lansing is just as miserable as Columbus this time of year only without the vibrant social scene and great restaurants and overall charm.

Positives: he is very tight with the OSU commits, as is his mother with their moms, he has been committed for a long time and even when other verbals have visited elsewhere under Urban, they have all come back to the good guys, he has not decommitted at this point and Urban, and LJSr have a week to talk him out of this visit,

And can we clear up one other thing? Mark Staten is the OL coach at MSU. Bollman is their OC.

Ohio State pledge Jamarco Jones plans to take Michigan State visit: Buckeyes recruiting

He has switched his crystal ball to Sparty.
And it's probably not based on anything more than what we all know...which I posted above. We've seen some late visits under Meyer (Elliott and Johnson) and they both stuck around. I'm not ready to write Jones off yet. OSU is going to have to recruit him hard down the stretch.

I'll wait till after he takes a visit (if he even does) and what he has to say after that visit to get the least bit worried. Jamarco has been a long time commit to the good guys, and like Demetrius, has done a lot in recruiting other guys in this class here along with representing OSU where ever he goes. With Vrabel leaving and him trying to do his due diligence with the biggest decision in his life at this point, I don't blame him for wanting to just make sure. I know MSU was a close 2nd, he has friends at MSU, and Vrabel leaving impacts it a bit, but by following him on twitter and seeing the connections he's made with our other very strong commits, I'd be very surprised if he's not in this class. Plus, Im sure he'll be getting an in-home from Urb and company pretty soon and we see how that turned out with Knox lol.

P.S. I know the older crowd and BP in general seems to shy away from twitter and/or social media all together as a form of news, but it can really tell part of or the whole story sometimes. Kids in this generation usually use social media as a form of expression and if you are savvy you can pull valuable information from who they tweet, follow, retweet, etc. Just an FYI

He likes Vrable. I get it. I love Vrable. How much time would he actually have spent with Vrable had he not left to the Texans? I'm just curious because I really don't know. I would guess very little. This should be something that can be smoothed over very easily by mentioning the 4 starters leaving and how our OL coach won a national asst coach of the year award.

This business is all about building relationships. He had built the best relationship with Vrabel. It's not the only reason he chose OSU but it was a big part.

I stopped paying attention to those Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports when Chad Mavety and Mike Gesicki went elsewhere.

Hope Jamarco keeps his verbal commitment.

And Wiltfong happens to be one that missed with Gesicki.

Hopefully this is just late nerves and anxiousness before a huge decision becomes final.

I agree with most of what you, I don't neccesarily consider myself the "older crowd"(32), but using twitter as info is a dangerous thing. Especially for OOS recruits. These kids didn't grow up OSU fans and have no allegiance to the school in a fan perspective. Jones is not in the same vein as Brady Taylor. Most if not all the recruits(especially OOs kids) have friends from their region that aren't even considering OSU and are going to other colleges. Johnnie Dixon, for example, has a lot of friends being looked at or committed to Miami or FSU. Jalyn Holmes is close friends with Damian prince, and Demetrious Knox is friends with a number of UT commits. Twitter can send false messages to fans who are reaching for inside info, when it's just some teenagers talking. I personally wouldn't consider any social media as "valuable information". And with the elite kids becoming more saavy on social media, and knowing that fans are looking for inside info, thy play with fans as well and try to act like they're committing to certain schools. That's also an FYI

Not one of the old guys, but just wanted to play devil's advocate and point out that you can't always rely on Twitter as a bearing on where a recruit end up. As an example, in following Irish recruiting about the time Jamarco committed last year, Elijah Hood was firmly committed to Notre Dame at the time and much like Jamarco was actively recruiting other players via Twitter and representing the University in a similar way. He ended up decommitting anyway for family and a girlfriend. There have been other cases with recruits like this in just the last year. While Twitter can definitely help give an idea what many recruits are thinking, it's sometimes hard to remember that these are 18 year old kids that are liable to change their mind on issues more frequently than they Tweet (If that's even possible), and they've got a big decision in front of them.

That said, I don't see Jamarco flipping. He seems like a great kid, and I think he'll end up at tOSU come February. I know awhile back that he's said that he wants to play for championships and that was important to him. MSU has had some recent success, but realistically they don't have the talent to compete at an incredibly high level each and every year. Plus, even if Dantonio ends up retiring in East Lansing, Narduzzi and the rest of the staff surely won't. Jamarco is a smart kid, I think he knows all this, and he's just wanting to make sure he's making the right decision with his choice in tOSU.

Re: Ohio State pledge Jamarco Jones plans to take Michigan State visit: Buckeyes recruiting

Remember this comment by Dantonio back in 2012?

Big Ten coaches upset with Urban Meyer's recruiting tactics

In the two months after being hired by the Buckeyes, Meyer managed to flip several players, including defensive Se'Von Pittman from Michigan State and offensive lineman Kyle Dodson from Wisconsin.

Spartans coach Mark Dantonio, a former Ohio State assistant, wasn't pleased. "They've got a new coach, and it's different," Dantonio told the Detroit News. "I would say it's pretty unethical, in the end."

I'm sure he only considers it unethical when the another school flips a Sparty recruit.
