OL Connor Smith (official thread)

Scout $

3/30/05

From the Cincinnati site...Connor's 2004 teammate Dominick Goodman actually thinks Oklahoma may lead for Smith at this point.

How he would know I have no idea, but that is what the article says. Goodman was a 2005 signee with the Bearcats from Colerain. I am posting this article because that is my job around here, so don't everyone start the Smith to Oklahoma rants. I am sticking with H&G and nevada on this one, thinking it comes down to OSU and scUM, with OSU prevailing.

The Oklahoma and USC rumors actually make a little sense...The pressure (if any) would be on Connor to follow his father to Ohio State. At the same time the pressure would be even MORE great to NOT go to tsun...That would make Oklahoma and USC the perfect 'compromise' choices...

with that said, I still believe that Connor will be a Buckeye...if he's not, then my credability is shot..:tongue2:

in any event...here is another picture of Connor for OSU fans to salivate over...
this kid is a beast and, despite accusations that I may biased, I believe he is a better player then Boone at this stage of his high school career...unfortunatley he plays in SWO and Boone played in OSU rabid NEO and got more attention.

Both are outstanding players and I do not wish to take anything away from Alex.

Smith will be a Buckeye. Quit reading that second-hand crap.

Whether there's any credibility behind your comments or not (I know EVERYONE says you are a prophet), these posts are always comforting. It's kind of like when your parents told you "don't worry, there's no monsters in your closet" right after you watch Nightmare on Elm Street when you're only 11 years old and it freaks you out so bad that you convince yourself that if you fall asleep Freddie's going to slice you into a million pieces and then you'll never wake up to watch another Buckeye football game. Man, that was a rough night. It happened to everyone, right?

I don't know why, but the two positions I get psyched up most for recruiting is o-line and d-backs. D-backs have been great lately, but o-line is just getting going. Come on big 3!!!

general FYI

Colerain held their state championship ring ceremony last night.

I spoke to Connor and this is what he told me.

He gave me the 'big five' official offers that he has at the moment: OSU, Miami (OH), Cincinnati, Florida and as of yesterday, LSU. Connor becomes the first Colerain player to ever receive an offer from the Bayou Bengals.

Connor said that he expects to receive an offer from scUM in May based upon what the scUM coaching staff has told him.

Then I asked him the big question...where are you going? And the kid looked 'star struck'...he said that he likes all of the schools that have offered him but he just doesn't know where to go at this point but that he is looking forward to taking a few visits and talking it over with his family....but, just for kicks, he did throw in that 'no matter what, I'm always going to be a Buckeye fan'

Just passing this along as an FYI...nothing really new to report (except the LSU offer) but thought you guys might like to hear it.

H & G, thanks for your inside scoop. Is Connor actively pursuing the attention of other schools in the sense of sending out any video highlights of his play? I'm curious whether he only has 5 offers because he (or anybody associated with him such as the Colerain staff) has not really contacted some of the bigger schools' coaching staffs as of yet. All of the schools that have offered Connor plus Michigan have some kind of connection to Ohio within their coaching staff (Michigan's connection obviously being the summer camp connection with Colerain). LSU is the only one of the group that sticks out.

he is not pushing his tapes on any school...when a school requests a tape, he sends it...he has sent tapes to USC, Oklahoma and Miami (FL) as well as a few others (schools like South Carolina)...but he has not received any offers from the above three...he has from just about all of the smaller ones, though.

FWIW...BuckNuts Gary H. talked to >>

Connor and his Dad this weekend and came away feeling that OSU has some work to do with Connor. Housteau didn't provide any concrete info but simply said it was his "gut" feeling that Connor is wide open at this point.
