OL Coach Tyler Bowen (Official Thread)

Upvote 0
Looks like he has a new Assistant OL coach. I will let someone else start that new thread. And I did not realize there was another coach helping the O line. Charlie Dickey.

Kambui clearly did a good job under Smith at both stops, because Smith is bringing him to a third stop together.
:smash:

the circular logic that follows this guy is mind numbing. simply being hired isn't validation that it was a good idea to hire them.

We are now at the point where the assistant (i.e. position) coaches are getting assistant coaches:

Marcus Johnson, Assistant Offensive Line Coach (recently left for another school)
Sam McGrath, Assistant Linebackers Coach
Michael Hunter Jr., Assistant Defensive Backs Coach
Wendy Laurent, Assistant Tight Ends Coach

And that doesn't include the other QC and Analyst positions.

Was kinda wondering, these guys all seem like accomplished coaches. OK, so their coaching room, sits down and agrees (?) on how/what/etc to coach the line. Everyone has different tendencies, agreed. So when gets down to the actual X's and O's (all O's in this case), is Bowen drifting around making certain AC #2 is having the line block left on thus and such play, or right? Am confused here. Watching film is one thing, but applying the lessons on the practice afield are another. What trying to mumble, is head OL coach setting the tone, and/or open to suggestion? Guess we need one of the BPers to sit in on a coaching meeting to report back....

I just see it as Smith’s version of Boyer that Patricia got last year. Couldn’t tell you how good of an idea it is, but it’s someone they like coaching with that makes things run easier.
I don't know if he's any good or not.....I just can't stand stupid logic. He CLEARLY did a good job? Just because he got hired by the same guy at 3 stops doesn't mean he's good. Maybe he's just a yes man. Maybe he's dating somebody's daughter. Maybe he's football Jesus. Maybe he has compromising pictures. But that sentence from Spencer Holbrook just bothers me.

The football coaching fraternity is well known to be all about keeping it in the family

Agreed. I read it as a 'we're not thrilled with our OL coaching, specifically w/r/t the run game. This shit needs fix'n and with a new OC who knows how to establish a mean ground and pound (debatable for BN27) run game, we need someone to take his vision and unfuck the OL.'
