Roster Addition: Chase Farris (DL)
(2010-10-01 Myrtle Beach, SC) Chase is a big, strong athlete that will fit right in at Ohio State. He is a high motor player that will have a great college career. Our defensive line coaches can't wait to see him here in Myrtle Beach for the All-Star game. We are excited to have him in the game.
Here's what Scout.com said:
A two way standout for his Elyria team, Farris plays right tackle and defensive end. He has good size and the frame to approach 300 pounds before his college career is over. He lacks the change of direction of an elite defensive player and may be better suited for the offensive side of the ball full time. He plays with good leverage and strength. Needs to use his hands better to keep opponents from getting into his chest.
Elyria sealed the game on a long 15-play 54-yard drive that ate up over six minutes of game clock. Behind big offensive tackle Chase Farris and his fellow linemen, Lewis carried the ball nine times on the drive for 34 yards to set up a three yard touchdown run by Jared Williams to seal the deal for the Pioneers.
The Ohio State recruit Ferris was one of several players that came up big on defense for the Pioneers that had five takeaways. Farris sacked Lakewood's Aturo Morgan twice stripped the ball and had a fumble recovery. Four Elyria defenders picked off Morgan as he had a nightmare day behind center going 2-11 for 38 yards.
A jubilant Farris was celebrating a big home win after the game.
"It feels wonderful just to come out and have the type of performance we had, get everyone together to get the victory," Farris said. "We did an alright job this week but we need to multiply that by three next week."
"You have to give it to Jumarr," said senior offensive and defensive lineman Chase Farris, playing his final game at Ely Stadium. "He's an amazing back, especially as a freshman. He's got a bright future."
"I give credit to the offensive line," said Lewis, knowing where his bread is buttered. "They really worked hard. Coach sent in the plays and we just executed them very well."
Farris had a couple of sacks and recovered a fumble. He will head to Ohio State next fall.
"Everybody played for the seniors," said Farris. "Our whole defensive line made plays when we needed to. To win our first game this season at home, nothing better. It' an amazing feeling.
"We'll have to multiply our effort by three next week at Twinsburg."
High school football: Four area players grab player of the year honors
Filed by Shaun Bennett November 18th, 2010 in Sports.
Elyria lineman Chase Farris (57) was named defensive player of the year in Division I.
It was about three months ago that Elyria?s Chase Farris and Elyria Catholic?s Danny Reaser stood shoulder to shoulder on the cover of the Chronicle?s high school football preview section.
Wednesday they were sharing the spotlight again as two of four area players named Northeast Lakes district players of the year, highlighting a solid group of district first-team selections.
Farris was the Division I defensive player of the year, while Reaser was the Division IV offensive player of the year. Joining them were Elyria Catholic senior linebacker Cory Campbell as the Division IV defensive player of the year and Columbia senior defensive back Ryan Severo as the Division V co-defensive player of the year. The four players are guaranteed All-Ohio first-team honors because of the district honor.
Avon coach Mike Elder was named the Division II co-coach of the year.
?I told myself that I was going to cry if I made All-Ohio,? Farris said. ?It?s nice to see that Lorain County is coming back and putting itself back on the map.
?Danny is a cool guy and I could see the two of us hanging out. It?s nice to see someone else from Elyria keeping on the same level as me.?
It?s a high level, too. Farris, who will play football at Ohio State next year, led the area with 11.5 sacks, finished with 95 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, fumble recovery, interception and a defensive touchdown. He also played tackle on the offensive line, grading out at 94 percent in his blocking with 52 pancakes.
?I remember as a freshman walking through the halls of Elyria High and looking on the walls at all the All-Ohio players,? Farris said. ?It?s definitely an honor, especially since there are some great defensive players in our district.?
High school football: Elyria?s Farris is area?s lone first-team All-Ohio selection in Division I and II
Filed by Dan Gilles November 30th, 2010 in High School Sports
ELYRIA ? Elyria?s Chase Farris thought it was possible after being named District Player of the Year a few weeks ago. But the senior two-way lineman was still pretty excited when he found out Monday he was a Division I first-team
All-Ohio selection at defensive end.
The Division I and II
All-Ohio teams, along with players and coaches of the year awards, were released by the Associated Press on Monday. Farris was the lone area player to earn first-team honors in either division.
?I?m definitely excited about it,? said Farris, a 6-foot-6 defensive end and offensive tackle who will attend The Ohio State University on a full scholarship. ?Being first-team all-state is one of the goals I was hoping to accomplish this season.
?When Coach (Steve Hamilton) called me and told me I was going to be
first-team all-district and that I made District Player of the Year as well, he told me that would guarantee me first-team
All-Ohio. So, I?ve known about it for a while, but it?s still pretty cool that it?s official.?
Farris gave credit to Hamilton, who also serves as the offensive line coach for the Pioneers, and coach Anthony Quinn, who is Elyria?s defensive line coach.
?I?ve got to give a shout-out to them,? he said. ?They really helped me out a lot these last few years and I owe them a lot.?
Hamilton, in return, heaped plenty of praise on his standout lineman.
?He definitely deserves it,? Hamilton said. ?Chase works hard academically and athletically and he deserves all the accolades he gets. He?s definitely moving on to bigger and better things, that?s for sure. It?s just an awesome honor for that young man.?
Farris finished the season with 95 tackles, 31 for loss, and 11 sacks.
?We talk a lot about being humble and continue improving, and Chase never let things get to him,? Hamilton said. ?He could have easily done things differently this season with the scholarship already in hand, but he approached every practice and every game the same as he did before. He worked his butt off in the offseason and it carried over through the regular season.?
His time at Elyria will most likely be remembered by the career of Chase Farris, whom Hamilton convinced not to quit playing football or transfer to Southview and ended up being offered a scholarship to play at Ohio State.
"We didn't practice that well (Monday)," said senior Chase Farris, who also dropped in a couple clutch free throws in the waning moments and finished with 10 points and seven boards. "(Tuesday) we came out on the same page and decided to play."
Ahhhhh.....to be 6-6, 265 pounds and run like a deer. To be an athletic freak of nature, where playing high school football is like playing against junior high kids. To have the attention of over 45 colleges that would like your services at their school. What a life...
Elyria's Chase Farris has it...
Who is Chase Farris?...Farris is a defensive end for the Elyria Pioneers. He has made his verbal commitment to play next year for your Ohio State Buckeyes. He is currently ranked as the sixth best prospect in the state of Ohio. He was recently named as a first team All-Ohio selection for the second year in a row. Chase is also an established basketball player, and recently poured in 26 points in last weekend's game against Strongsville.
Where will he play in college?...Chase was a defensive end in high school, and may start off there in Columbus. Tough to compare a high school senior to an outgoing college senior who was a Freshman All-American, Lombardi Award nominee as a junior and is likely to be one of the top picks in the 2011 NFL draft...I've heard comparisons to Cam. Are those accurate?
