Boys basketball: Cannon, Farris pace Elyria past Ridgeville | Chronicle-Telegram

Filed by Tim Gebhardt February 3rd, 2010

Senior guard Mike Cannon supplied the 3-pointers and junior post Chase Farris the free throws as Elyria won its fourth in five tries against Lorain County teams to even its mark at 7-7 overall. North Ridgeville slipped to 10-5.

It wouldn't have mattered without the efforts of Farris, who finished with 17 rebounds - some simply coming out of desire. Farris has always been able to draw fouls with his strong rebounding but had been under 50 percent from the line for the year. His two free throws Tuesday with 1:12 to play gave the Pioneers the final margin of victory as the defense took over with two huge stops - the first coming off a Will Rudolph blocked shot, the last simply good, old-fashioned aggressive play.

"He's been working very hard," Larrick said of Farris. "We told him free throws are going to win or lose some games. He was 6-for-6. He hasn't done that all year. His effort has to rub off on our other guys."

"Coach (Larrick) changed up my free throws," said Farris. "We've been working on them in practice a lot."

Has a GREAT frame to work with. With his athletiscm has he played any TE? I have not seen him in person, and only saw his Scout Ohio film but what I did see was impressive. I then thought maybe a tweener since I am not sure he has the burst off the edge for DE. End of the day I think he is too athletic to be on the OL and could be a Darrian Scott /Doug Worthington type DE/DT like OSUBucks22 said. Lots and Lots of talent in state in 2011.

I don't see an OL at all really. He could be a beast on the D Line. I think he could play either DE or DT, I kind of like the idea of that kind of speed and power on the edge at the moment but that could change. And the frame comment is perfect, he's a lean 265. Powerful and has mad speed and agility. I definitely gotta see more film.

Farris is the real deal...I saw him as a sophmore and knew he would have d1 potential, and this year as a JR proved it to me. He has played some decent out of conference OL to in North Olmsteads Matt Rotheram(Pitt commit) and Avon Lake's Christian Pace(Michigan commit). Kid is ALL of 6'6. Best part is he works out with Lecharles Bentley at his O-line academy in Avon, Ohio. Bucks should have the edge

Yeah, I beleive he does, I cant remember if he played LT or RT this year, Elyria's other OT was committed to BGSU. He has a long lean frame, and hes a basketball player so hes got the feet. I think he could hold 300 pretty easily. I like him a lot better then a lot of OSU's offers thus far. And as I said he played some good out of conference comp in 3 stars Rotheram and Pace.

Awesome shuttle and vert numbers for that size.
