OL Chase Farris (Official Thread)

Having trouble sleeping, so watching some recruiting film tonight. Can't help but watch Chase's ScoutingOhio film and think ohmigoodness. He looks like he could be a solid contributor on the O-Line, but he's gonna be something really special on D. He's got the instincts, speed, and size to be a terror as a hybrid DT/DE. The potential is there.

The three-headed monster of Farris/Bennett/Hale is going to be keeping opponent's O-coordinators and interior linemen up late at night in 3-4 years.

Ranking the Buckeye recruiting class pt.1

5 - Chase Farris, Athlete, Elyria - If Bennett being number four was not your first suprise I am sure this one is. I was watching a film of Farris a couple of months ago. It is film I have never seen before. I can't remember where I saw it but I made notes on it. He was using rip moves and swim moves. It showed him stacking against the run and being very physical. It showed him chasing all over the field. As highly as he is rated I think he is underrated.

Elyria will build those hopes around Ohio State recruit Chase Farris, who has filled in his 6foot-6 frame to the tune of 270 solid pounds. Farris will be on the field as much as possible at defensive end and offensive tackle.

?No doubt,? Hamilton said. ?Chase will be the cornerstone of our team this year. He?s worked his butt off in the offseason to get where he needs to be. He is a leader at all times in everything that he does and no matter what he does. ?During the fourth-quarter grading period (last spring), I challenged him that for every non-A, he owes me 60 push-ups. First check report, he owed me 300 push-ups. He did every one. At the end, he ended up having just 60. He finished with all A?s and one B. He?s well above a 3.0 student now. He sees what?s in front of him and he?s working hard to achieve our goals. He?s a legitimate Division I player obviously by his verbal commitment to Ohio State.?

Chasing greatness: Farris? dreams of OSU football almost never came true

Elyria's Chase Farris.

Weighing nearly 300 pounds as a non-athletic middle-schooler with no interest in playing football, a 14-year-old Chase Farris considered transferring to a crosstown school.

Three years later, thanks to a well-timed phone call from Steve Hamilton, he?s now the top football recruit in Lorain County and has verbally committed to play football at Ohio State.

?There was a point where I wasn?t even going to play football,? Farris said. ?Going into my freshman year, I was going to transfer to Southview. I was waiting for my acceptance letter, but for some reason it never came. One day I got a call from my junior high secretary telling me Coach Hamilton wanted me to play football at Elyria and the day I go to get my jersey, the Southview letter comes in the mail. So I guess it was meant for me to be at Elyria.?

?I grew up in Ohio and when you grow up in Ohio, you?re basically an Ohio State boy basically,? Farris said. ?I had a whole bunch of offers. I had like two offers a day for a week straight ... A month later, I decided on Ohio State after talking to my mom and my family.?

Ohio State recruit Chase Farris had a number of tackles and batted down a pass to lead Elyria?s defensive effort. The Pioneers managed to hold Amherst out of the end zone on its first two possessions - giving up field goals - and stopped a long third-quarter drive without points, but there were too many breakdowns in the defensive backfield that led to Hosier?s big night. The yardage was the most ever given up by an Elyria pass defense.

Farris 'cornerstone' of Elyria's playoff push
(AP)

ELYRIA, Ohio ? Chase Farris is entering his senior season as a two-way standout at Elyria High School.

He began to fill out as a junior, adding 40 pounds to a 6-foot-6 frame without losing agility. Scouts project him as a pass-rushing defensive end now, with the potential to be a stalwart 300-pound tackle in a few years.

Farris sorted through offers from more than 20 major college programs before committing to Ohio State, No. 2 in the Top 25 preseason poll. He said that being little more than 100 miles from home played a big part in his decision.

"Going far from home, my friends and my family wouldn't be able to come see me play," said Farris, on The Associated Press East Region 25 list of top recruits. "This gives my mom the chance to see me every home game and probably on the road, too."

Farris had all A's except for one "B" on his report card last spring and said he was impressed with Ohio State's academic program as well as its football legacy. He intends to major in business.

With a 30-inch vertical leap and 4.9 time in the 40-yard dash, Farris' game is built upon athleticism rather than brute strength. Not that he's a 265-pound weakling. He was a strong rebounder on the Pioneers' basketball team, bench presses more than 300 pounds and his pounding work on the offensive line has given him some additional durability.

"Our kids knew what (North Olmsted) was going to come with. We knew they ran the jet sweep. We knew they ran the option. How about that screen that Chase (Farris) picked off? We worked it in practice and now I think they see the things we work in practice are going to happen on the field."

Farris, Demetrius Walton and Myles Tyler had interceptions. Tyree Taylor, Jared Williams and Malik Merriweather were around the ball carriers all night. A.J. Smith and Shaq Brown made nice plays as well.

"We worked on the screens all week," Farris said of his interception. "Coach said if you feel the lineman blocking you a little bit and lets you go, get back 'cause it?s a screen. The tackle let me go and I took two steps back and saw the ball."

Farris nearly broke it for a score to start the second half but was brought down on the 6-yard line. Even though Elyria failed to convert the turnover into points, it impacted the field position.

Elyria at Mayfield

What, when where: Northeast Ohio Conference crossover game, 7 p.m., Mayfield Municipal Stadium, Mayfield High, 6116 Wilson Mills Road, Mayfield. Call 440-995-6830.

Records: Elyria 1-2; Mayfield 2-1.

What to watch: This has the makings of being a high-scoring contest. Demetrius Walton and Malik Merriweather accounted for most of Elyria's receiving yards, and youngsters Jumarr Lewis and Keon Nealy proved they can run the ball in the loss to Elyria Catholic. A lot will depend on the effectiveness of QB Dustin Stolarski, who took some tough hits last week. Mayfield QB Caden Loew can throw well, with his primary target being Chuck Zavarella, but improvement in the running game is needed. The heat will be on Mayfield's young defense, which will need to contain two-way lineman/Ohio State recruit Chase Farris.

PD pick: Mayfield.

The Chronicle-Telegram - High school football: Elyria ends losing skid

Elyria also saw Ohio State recruit Chase Farris dominate the game by causing a fumble, altering a couple of pass attempts, getting a couple more sacks and just making plays on both sides of the ball.

"Yes, sir," said Farris. "Our job was to put pressure on the quarterback. The first thing, we had to honor the run. Then the first string quarterback went out and the second one wasn?t as mobile."
