OL Chase Farris (Official Thread)

Well I guess we have this year's "Michael brewster" guy that some fans were looking for to recruit for OSU. This kid sounds as good as any to do that job. Hopefully he can help snag a few QBs for us too

There won't be another Brewster for quite some time...he was unique.

Talked things over with LeCharles Bentley after working out at his Academy and decided to talk to JT...knows Underwood from the Academy and is ready to help recruit other players to OSU.

Always like to hear when the staff adds additional forces to help on the recruiting trail.

Exactly. We may have some guys that help us out but Brew is about the most likeable guy will ever meet. Seriously, Brew is the man. The man. But I am still super stoked about Farris

Elyria junior lineman Chase Farris is headed to Ohio State
Filed by Shaun Bennett March 18th, 2010 in High School Sports

Elyria junior Chase Farris must have felt like he was drowning in a sea of scholarship offers over the past few weeks. But instead of testing the waters, the defensive end decided to orally commit to Ohio State.

?I started off with my first offer from Duke,? said Farris, who confirmed his decision Wednesday. ?About two weeks later I got one from Indiana, and the same day I got one from Buffalo. My fourth one was Toledo, and after that I waited about three weeks with no offers.

?Then that fourth week came and so did Ohio State, then Michigan State and they just started flooding in. For like two weeks I got an offer every day. It was overwhelming and I felt like I was the big man on campus for once.?

Farris is the big man on Elyria?s campus.

With still a year-plus to grow, the 6-foot-6, 265-pound lineman was pulled from under the radar and into the spotlight. As of Wednesday, he had 23 offers from Division I programs ? including Notre Dame, Michigan, Boston College and California ? but chose the Buckeyes after a visit to the campus two weeks ago.

?It was good,? he said. ?They showed me the dorms and the buildings where I?d be attending classes ? because I?d be attending school for business. I got to tour the Woody Hayes Center.?
With all the attention he received from so many top-tier programs, Farris admits it wasn?t easy making a decision so quickly.

?I didn?t want to commit right away, but I also didn?t want to wait and wait and wait ? and then they go offer someone else and my spot is gone,? he said. ?It ultimately comes down to trust. If you can trust the coaches, then you really should give them that commitment.?

A day to remember

Chase Farris (Elyria HS) ? Well wouldn?t you just know that they saved the best for last. Chase is one of the most underrated players in the nation with scouting services, but the coaches certainly know better. Farris boasted offers from OSU, Boston College, California, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame and West Virginia among others. He is extremely versatile in that he can play DE, DT, OT or TE. Luckily, both OSU and Chase are in agreement that DE is his best position. This marks the 3rd and likely last DE commit in the class, going along with top 10 DE?s Steve Miller and Kenny Hayes to make what will likely be the best DE class in the nation. He is also a 4-star player and ranked 28th in Ohio, but the more film that comes out on him the higher he will rise in later releases. What makes him unique is his blend of strength and explosiveness as he is able to track down RB?s much smaller than himself. Chase comes in the mold of current Buckeye Nathan Williams in that he should be able to contribute quickly as a pass rush specialist. His frame is another plus, marking in at 6?5 and 250 but he should be able to add some more bulk without losing any closing speed or burst. The OSU DL is already arguably (really not much of an argument this year) the best in the nation, but it?s about to get even better.

Rank of the 5 commits: 1st

The OV Review: Chase Farris ($$)

By Mike Parris...a look at Chase's strength's, areas of improvement and outlook at the next level.

Parris notes that Chase will be entering college at about the same height and weight that Cam Heyward did...but that the wildcard could still be a move to the offensive side of the ball.
