OL Alex Boone (Official Thread)

Although they are very close in ht. and wt. I think Rehring being an inch taller and about five pounds heavier is a little bit better of a build as a tackle than Barton. Of course they are VERY close but how awesome would it be if we had two 6'8'' tackles on either side of our line with Boone and Steve. The off season will tell the tale of who plays the spot better but honestly I'd like to see Barton be adapted to play guard. Boone, Barton, Cordle/Datish, Downing, and Rehring, left to right. Damn....

You don't rack and stack players based solely on physcial measurements...you do so based on ability. I think Barton has proved himself at his position.

You don't think Datish isn't going to be somewhat "green" after not playing center for so long? From what was coming out of the camps when Cordle was healthy, it seemed like Cordle was going be seeing some playing time this season. If Cordle was good enough to be seriously considered for the two-deep then, I'd think he'd be the same once he heals up. Of the five you've listed above, Datish is definitely the least talented.

Of course Datish would be inexperienced at center, but he'll be in his 5th year in the system. I don't doubt that Cordle has more talent and potential than Datish, but I just wonder how it would be having a frosh calling all the signals along that line. If Cordle does enough to win the job, that'd probably be a best case scenario because it meant he outperformed a 5th year senior, but if he doesn't, I think they'll still be OK...

Back to the 2005 season now

Agreed that's why I said the off season will tell they story....I just think it would be sweet to have the two young bucks on either end.

Remember, that Barton is only a RS Soph. Technically, he has the same eligibility as Rehring (unless Rehring gets a MS for this season).

Barton has the potential to be a collegiate stud. He has the size and the footwork to continue to improve. As a high school TE, he was all over the field.

In my opinion, Boone and Barton will be our tackles for the next few seasons. The coaches will have a decision to make with Rehring...Is he mobile enough to move down to guard (can he pull). If so, he will beat out Datish. Dowling has his spot solidified for next year and from what I've read, Cordle will have first shot at the vacated center position.

It would probably be smart to keep Rehring as the first tackle off the bench. He will get plenty of PT over the course of a season.

Datish
Cordle

Barton

I'm pretty sure that's the line up that we'll see on opening day next season. I agree with Mili about Cordle. Just watching Cordle in the spring game (against Quinn Pitcock) he was an animal. I believe he played guard and center in that game. Remember, Cordle came in early, so he has a little more experience than the average freshman. It's too bad that he got hurt, but it does make the staff red shirt him (which I'm not positive would have happened if he had stayed healthy).

Rehring has been out since before the Iowa game, so he's participated in three games at most. D'Andrea played in four games last year before getting hurt and was granted a medical redshirt, so I think chances for Rehring getting one for this year are pretty good.

Mili - I agree, I just wasn't 100% sure he was out for the rest of the year. If he does come back, he will obviously lose the Medical redshirt.

How great of an ad would it be for Boone to be showing off a tiny little iPod Shuffle (obviously not very legal at the moment)
