Ohio University to play Ohio State in 2008

OU's School of Journalism is top 5 in the country. Does OSU even have one anymore?

I know that it was 7 or 8 in USN&WR--ten years ago. Where it is today? I have no idea. Any reference on the top 5 ranking? I do know that it's never been considered one of the "Big 3" journalism programs in the country (Columbia, Northwestern and Missouri).

I'll get back to my original point. A journalism school--no matter how good--does not a quality university make. It's a peripheral discipline. It is not a fundamental core to any university--even Columbia or Northwestern. It might be a great journalism school at OU--and by all accounts it is--but it goes next to nowhere in making OU a great university.

And FWIW, I went over to the Scripps homepage and looked at the admissions requirements for Scripps (25ACT/top 15% of h.s. class) and comparing them to Ohio State's freshman class statistics for last year, about 90% of our freshmen could have gotten into Scripps had they wanted to. Just because Scripps is highly selective relative to the rest of OU does not mean that it's highly selective in the broader sense.

Even though I have 2 of the last 3 posts in this thread, I still have fewer posts here than in the Official Thread regarding the USC Game.

I say this only to preemptively deflect any suggestion that I am part of the following "issue":
This thread is longer than the USC Game Thread. Seriously.

Well, really if we just split off ORD's rants this thread would probable be about 1 page long.

As schools, they really don't compare. Ohio State is becoming much more selective--and because of that, improving their rankings--while OU seems to be moving in the opposite direction. According USNews (not necessarily the end-all for college rankings), Ohio State is #57 in the nation, while OU is #112.

I got into both schools, with a full-ride to OU. So I went to OU, didn't like it and didn't think it was challenging enough. Now I'm at Ohio State. To each his own.

As for the game, Ohio State needs to stay on top of it. The Bobcats had a down season after going to the GMAC Bowl in '06. But they had lost Muncey and others on defense. I expect them to be competitive in the MAC next year, but as long as Ohio State stays on their game, it shouldn't be close. I'd be worried that Ohio State can't pull it together offensively or make some mistakes (possibly looking ahead to SoCal). Not likely, though.

Well, this is the game before USC, shouldn't it warrant more posts? One game at a time?

Based on who's posting and what they're saying, I don't think the order of the games has much bearing. See below, or just refer to the fact that one of the Texas game threads is the longest football thread in BP history.

Good point Piney:
Most posts, this thread:
  • Ord: 29
  • Kickdown02: 25
Most posts, USC thread:
  • Taos: 9

You actually went through and counted out posts? Wow, that is...neat.

BTW, just wait for when we get closer to the fall. There is a chance that the official OSU vs OU thread will have more posts than the USC thread. Lots of Bobcats will be over here, talking smack.

Nice use of the official BP language (sarcasm), but there was no need to count posts. If you click on the number of posts in the thread, it brings up a list of people who have posted in the thread, sorted by those who have posted most. It literally took less than 2 seconds to check both threads.

From the buckeye football sub-forum, if you click on the number of replies next to the thread, it gives you the breakdown in number of posts in that thread by each by poster. :)
