Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Some Beast of the East info for Buckeye commitments. A lot of guys moving up a weigh to wrestle this year.

Sammy Sasso moved up from 145 to 152 to wrestle Carr but lost in the finals 6-3. He had dominated everyone else up to that point. Quinn Kinner moved up from 132 to 138 and won 11-3. Blair leads Bergen Catholic by about 45 points with 5 finals to go.

Really nice win for Kinner, though I would have liked to see him down at 132 to wrestle Silva and Tagg...138 was definitely a weaker class there, still a great win though. And good on Sasso to bump up for that match...really it was almost two weights, Carr is huge. Also #3 Foca loses to Soehnlen, who lost to Rocky...should see Rock move up to#3 nationally at 170.

Honestly, Tagg wasn't that impressive. He barely got to the round of 16 and then 8 against the 51st and 43rd seeded kids and then was soundly beat by Raimo in the semi's. Silva was bloodied after his semi and forfeited the finals match to Raimo but it might have been a close final. I think Kinner matches up well with all those kids. His top game is very good. He will be college ready in that area right off the bat. And yeah Carr looked much bigger than Sasso. Sasso was in on shots but could not finish and that is almost always due to the weight difference. Sasso is going to be a star at OSU if he stays healthy.

NaTo is planning to wrestle Friday against Maryland but coach Ryan is opting to keep him out of the lineup against Rutgers on Sunday so no match up with Soriano until B1G.

Somewhat related... Iowa will pull Spencer Lee's redshirt and he will wrestle in the upcoming dual.

I think that is a smart move...get some of the rust off but no sense in getting him injured against Suriano or dropping the match because he isn't 100% or does not have his conditioning full go. Would have loved to see it, but we'll see it soon enough and it is better for the big picture. And Lee pulling his redshirt is huge...125 just got even tougher. He is a kid that could seriously compete for the title. Lee narrowly lost at the Midlands in the semi's to a tough Bresser from Oregon State, who almost beat Suriano in the finals. At the very least, Lee will make a run at AA.

I agree with it as well. Tom Ryan is taking a beating on the message boards from opposing fans for "protecting seeds" but this is the right call for Nate. 125 at the B1G tourney is going to be loaded with Soriano, Lee, Lizak and Nato - no easy path to the finals. And there is still a chance that Fix will come out of redshirt as well.

Wrestlers destroy Maryland tonight 45-3. Nato looked sharp in his return and rest of the team wrestled aggressively and racked up points. Maryland surrendered 2 medical forfeits and OSU got bonus points on every match but 165. Campbell was limping again so whatever this injury is, it seems to be lingering.

Just a copy and paste from the team site below for individual matches but that is a great performance for our boys. Definitely happy to see NaTo back and healthy, tech fall in the first 3 minutes. Only loss came at heavy with Kyle sitting out and even at that, the No. 10 Hemida only got a decision over Kevin. Great win for McKenna as well, almost teched a really good wrestler. Also a great win for Hayes, Bannister is tough. Looking forward to watching the Rutgers dual tomorrow!

125 | No. 1 Nathan Tomasello (OSU) tech. fall Brandon Cray (MD), 18-2 (OSU 5, MD 0)
133 | No. 3 Luke Pletcher (OSU) maj. dec. over Jhared Simmons (MD), 18-6 (OSU 9, MD 0)
141 | No. 6 Joey McKenna (OSU) tech. fall over Ryan Diehl (MD), 23-5 (OSU 14, MD 0)
149 | No. 5 Ke-Shawn Hayes (OSU) maj. dec. over Alfred Bannister (MD), 8-0 (OSU 18, MD 0)
157 | No. 6 Micah Jordan (OSU) injury default over Justin Alexander (MD) (OSU 24, MD 0)
165 | No. 11 Te’Shan Campbell (OSU) dec. over Brendan Burnham (MD), 8-2 (OSU 27, MD 0)
174 | Fritz Schierl (OSU) injury default over Josh Ugalde (MD) (OSU 33, MD 0)
184 | No. 2 Myles Martin (OSU) fall over Jahi Jones (MD) (2:24) (OSU 39, MD 0)
197 | No. 1 Kollin Moore (OSU) fall over Mansur Abdul-Malik (MD) (2:00) (OSU 45, MD 0)
285 | No. 10 Youssif Hemida (MD) dec. over Kevin Snyder (OSU), 8-1 (OSU 45, MD 3)

Thought about taking the 90 minute drive to Rutgers to see this match but too many things to do today and just ended up watching it on BTN.

That match started off at 174 with Bo picking up a decision over a kid he probably techs if he is 100%. Myles was supposed to face Gravina but instead got the RU backup who he pinned in 30 seconds. Moore with a major at 197 and Snyder with a pin. At 125 Soriano got the tech over Mead, Pletcher got a close win at 133 and McKenna looked solid with a win at 141. Hayes was up 6-0 and got lateral dropped twice in the last minute to lose 12-6. He looked gassed but you've gotta find a way to stay out of that position because it's the only thing the Rutgers kid could do offensively. As a side note I can't remember the last lateral drop I have seen in a college match let alone two. Micah picked up a 10-5 win and Campbell dropped a 5-2 match to Lewis. Campbell again showed no offense from neutral and was not able to hold Lewis down. The match ended 29-11.
