Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

For Bo and Micah to give up back points on the suck back move is unfortunate. The sit out and switch stuff just doesn't work against decent college wrestlers. Be fast at the start, get a base and get to your feet. Bo actually showed something in the 3rd this time. In these matches he is losing he's finding himself down 4,5,6 points in the 2nd period and it's like he wakes up and starts getting on his offense but it's too late.

For sure, no idea how that happened. But for Bo, he always starts the match late...he really needs to work on starting a match off right because he has the talent to win it all if he wrestles all 3 periods.

Buckeyes won the CK despite no NaTo, McKenna or Kyle Snyder...freaking incredible. Pletcher beats a very good Terao 9-2 (smokes him). Hayes gets a great win to take 3rd. Disappointing that Mic lost so bad at 157. Bummer for Campbell to lose at 165 to White. Same for Bo in getting whipped in his rematch with Valencia, looks like Valencia is just winning that weight. Myles with a fantastic win at 184. Kollin freaking PINS the #3 guy in the country. Great tourney overall. This team full strength is going to be fun to watch. We just beat the #3 team in the country by 15.5 points and 3 of our best wrestlers were not even wrestling. Let that sink in and yeah, we are going to be good.

Bo Nickal is a great wrestler, but we've seen so much success from Martin against him, I'm hoping for a Buckeye trifecta in the upper weights! It looks quite possible this year. Martin, from the clips I've seen, looks so much better at this weight than last year (during the transition). He's going to be tough to beat all season.

I think Micah's doing fine with the adjustment up a class. He did quite well in this tournament. Three falls, a major, and a win over the number 5, and avenging his loss from earlier? Yeah, the final was kind of a rout, but for a new weight, lots of good stuff accomplished there.

Bo is a notch below Valencia, and maybe Hall too, but you feel like he's right there to maybe feed off some momentum in a tournament setting. He's close enough that he's got a chance.

Nato seems to think he's getting close too.

I don't think the expectations can get any higher for this team. Wow.

The key for Myles against Nickal will be finishing those low shots and not giving up cheap points at the end of the period. Nickal will try to bait him into something like a cradle or a mouse trap like last year. Nickal wrestles for falls at home matches. Myles just needs to wrestle smart and finish and he can beat Nickal.

Martin is certainly wrestling on another level to start the year and I do believe his adjustment to 184 is setting in. He can definitely take out Nickal again and I think he has shown sign of major improvement. He struggled a lot in the CK last year.

Agreed on Mic, I thought he would be 157 to start his college career honestly. But he had a great tourney and one not so great match in finals. He is going to be just fine.

I feel like Bo and Hall are going to be neck and neck, but Valencia took a step to the next level this year...either of Bo or Hall are going to have to wrestle out of their minds to beat him this year.

But yes, you have to be extremely excited about the team's potential this year. To perform like that without NaTo, McKenna or Snyder is remarkable.

Bo dares people to take the leg but guys that can finish are not gonna let him use his hips to leverage his way out of that single leg.

I wish he would just get down in his stance on the tougher matches and make it tough to shoot on him. His offense is good enough to win it if he does that.

Why the beef with Jeff Jordan? Clear loyalties aside, he has sent all 3 of his kids to OSU and they are all the quintessential examples of what you want a young man to be that wrestles for Ohio State. He has done so much for the sport and has been a strong supporter of our program. Love your contributions here in the wrestling forum, so it is an honest question.

It was the wrong Jordan. Getting Jeff and Jim mixed up.

The Graham Falcons unfortunately did not beat Blair Academy at the Ironman, but had a nice tournament and took runner up. I will not go into every detail but as it relates to the Buckeyes, Rocky Jordan pinned the #7 guy in the country to win the finals and was the OW. Tough to question that, Rock was flat out dominant the entire tournament. Just doing Rocky stuff. Rock was ranked lower because he had battled through injuries but honestly, he might be the best wrestler to come out of that family and I think he might prove it this year. Might finish out the year at #1 if he keeps it up.

Heinselman lost in the semi's to his Blair kid...not thrilled on that one but I think he is having a tough adjustment moving up some weights. Also worth noting that Decatur lost to Crace at 126. I think Decatur has the highest ceiling, but Crace is a guy that I would love to see in this class...injuries kept him from the spotlight early but I think he could be an excellent wrestler at the next level.

On a final note, I would love to see us try to flip Hardy from Oklahoma (he is from Box Elder, UT). I have seen him a couple times and he is borderline unstoppable, kid just attacks nonstop, pinned his guy in finals...really love his style and think he will dominate at the next level. Also love Ferrari at 182 from Texas...I want to see OSU make a move here, he could destroy it here at 184/197.

I have watched OSU football from Rome, Edinburgh, and London (this year’s game v Wisconsin was at 1 AM local time but the alumni club was still there. I have seen basketball games abroad. This is a first for wrestling. It’s raining cats and dogs periodically in Brussels so wrestling it is.

Had a chance to see the wrestlers take on Princeton tonight at the Beast of the East in Delaware. Some observations... Princeton is really bad... really bad. Hayes won a defensive match against Kolodzik 2-0 but I didn't see another kid on Princeton that would be considered good at this level. Mckenna is not dominating like I think he should be at this point. He is taking a lot of long distance shots that are getting blocked pretty easily. He needs to work on his level changes and setups. Te'Shan Campbell is injured. His leg is fully wrapped and he was limping badly after the match. He's terrific on top but from neutral he has very little offense right now. Pletcher wrestled a kid he should have teched but didn't. Mead hit a 4 point move to win with less than 10 seconds remaining which fired up the crowd. The other kid was crushed. Bo pinned a kid that was pretty green and Myles and Kollin looked dominating against poor competition. Everyone was a little disappointed that Kyle wasn't there but Kevin filled in and got gritty win. Micah dominated an outclassed kid.

Took a ton of pictures. Will post a few later. Myles lives just across the bridge in Pennsgrove, NJ so this was a homecoming for him. He had a ton of family on hand and stayed after for pictures with every kid that wanted one... and there were a lot.

Glad you got to see the dual in person, had to be fun. Yeah, Princeton is not that good. BUT...great win for Hayes. Kolodzik is a stud, a huge win for Hayes. The rest was about to be expected, but we also blanked them 39-0. Cannot complain with that.

Edit: I also somehow forget that we often don't even have our best two wrestlers out there in Kyle Snyder and NaTo. Wow.

Did you attend the Ironman? Was curious to see if you watched the kid that won the 220 pound class.
