Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Bo getting that pin got me off my seat, gives us a nice lead. Calling it now, Tomasello beats Waters...he is on fire. C'mon Courts and Snyder...Evans just beat Storley, so let's get that lead back up. And Demas got destroyed, pretty disappointing there.

Courts wins in OT! HOLY SHIT! Best match I have seen him wrestle and he is going to the semi's! Got down early with major riding time against him, got 2 takedowns and enough riding to negate the point, gets a clutch inside switch to double for the win. And #2 Max Thomusseit (my boy) just got upset and I hate that for him, but Kenny has a real shot of beating the #7 seed Brown of Lehigh to get to finals. Even if he doesn't, what an incredible run for Kenny...so happy to see it.

Snyder beats Schiller 3-2 in a well wrestled match and we extend our lead over Iowa by 20 freaking points baby! Also, Burak lost at 197 for Iowa, so that helps us a ton. Martin lost and is out. We have 5 in the semi's now and DiJulius is alive in the consolations. Really need to win 3 out of our 5 in the semi's and have Johnny D place to lock it up I think, but we have to be the huge favorite.

I've been hearing about something that happened between a Kent St. wrestler (Ian Miller?) and a Cornell guy?

From a Sandusky article:

"Also from the area, Kent State's Ian Miller (Oak Harbor 2011) lost a heartbreaker in his 157-pound quarterfinal. Leading 9-4, Miller allowed Cornell's Brian Realbuto to come back and tie the match and force OT, where Realbuto scored a takedown to win 11-9. However, after the match, Kent State wrestling coaches observed that Miller had not been rewarded his bonus point for having more than one minute of riding time against his opponent, which would have given him a 10-9 lead after three periods and the win.
But NCAA officials told KSU head coach Jim Andrassy the video of the match cannot be reviewed once the match as ended, despite the hand signals of the official on the mat. Miller will look to place as an All-American still in tonight's wrestlebacks."

Wow - so the ref awarded the point but scorekeeper didn't tally it, no one caught it and kid loses......that's horrible.

Nice lead but nobody in the lower brackets is troubling. Puts a ton of pressure on the 5 that are left. I said from the get-go we needed to have guys fight back in the consolations and that really did not happen. However, I in no way expected this many bonus points and for Courts to get to semi's. To be point blank, we will not win all 5 of our matches in semi's. I think winning 3 of 5 and Logan getting bonus would be a huge win...need to at least split with Mizzou on Toms/Snyder matches. But whoever drops into consolations needs to win at least one more match imo. To preview tonight's matches (8 pm EST on ESPNU):

125: #1 Alan Waters (Mizzou) vs. #4 Nathan Tomasello: Waters is undefeated this year and is definitely tough. But Tomasello is wrestling explosive and smart...he is definitely peaking big time. I honestly like Tomasello to win here.

141: #1 Logan Stieber vs. Unseeded Kevin Jack (NDSU): Jack pulled some major upsets and just beat Logan's opponent from last year's finals match. However, I think Logan either tech falls or pins him...he is on a roll.

165: #1 Alex Dieringer (OK State) vs. #5 Bo Jordan: Easily our toughest matchup, Dieringer is undefeated and pound-for-pound 2nd to none other than Logan. But Bo has been very dialed in this tournament and I think stands the best chance of knocking him off...Bo has the talent, strength, technique, and comes up clutch in the big match. I can't predict a win necessarily but he will give him all he is worth.

184: #7 Nathan Brown (Lehigh) vs. Unseeded Kenny Courts: Literally, there had to be zero people who thought THIS would be the semi's on the lower half of the bracket. Courts is wrestling by far the best he ever has and is showing a ton of heart in winning at the end. No matter what happens, I am SO proud of him this tournament. Brown upsetting Thommuseit was huge for Kenny, because he matched up horribly against Max. I honestly call this one dead even...Courts has a solid shot to get in finals.

197: #1 J'Den Cox (Mizzou) vs. #4 Kyle Snyder: The match I think most fans have been waiting for since Snyder inked with OSU but of course we wish it would have been tomorrow night. The two split matches in freestyle during their high school days and it is anyone's guess what will happen here. I have watched all of Kyle's matches and he just has an explosiveness I have not seen all year...not necessarily getting in on shots, but finishing quickly and explosively to the mat so there is no scramble. I think he could have smoked Schiller but he wanted to wrestle smart and advance. I have no idea what happens here but a win would be clutch...we need one out of Tomasello and Snyder with Mizzou being close in the team race.

Here is the best look at where everyone stands:

upload_2015-3-20_16-50-55.png

Y=alive in the championship bracket. C=alive in the consolation. Our guys are gonna need a few upsets. Stieber will need bonus. If they get bounced to the consolation they will need to keep wrestling. I think Nate has a great shot at an upset - he is on a mission. Snyder and Cox split many matches in HS (freestyle). Logan will either tech or pin Jack. Courts is wrestling out of his mind. Got pinned by Brown 3 weeks ago but I'd say he has a shot if he stays aggressive. Bo is going up against a hammer in Dieringer. No one has been close to him this season. Bo will need his best match all year.

We need to be cheering for the following in the semi's

125 - Moisey over Gilman (Iowa)
133 - Gulibon over Clark (Iowa)
149 - Villalonga over Houdashelt (Mizzou)
174 - Brown over Evans (Iowa)

Of those only Brown looks like a clear favorite over Evans. The rest would be mild to major upsets. We also need to be cheering for anyone wrestling an Iowa or Mizzou guy in the consolation round.
