Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Feldman will only wrestle unattached this year...Tater will be the man one more season. He put on an additional 40 lbs this offseason but it's not fat. He looks like he means business.

All of that is exactly what I had in mind...Feldman would greatly benefit from a RS to gain some good weight and there is probably no need to have him go this year from a team perspective given that PSU pretty much has the title in the bag barring injuries. Take the RS and have a chance to be a 4 timer...obviously that is a hard thing to do, but I think the potential is there for that to be possible.

Everyone wants to get in on the action as a freshmen. If you review many of tOSU's stars, they will probably say that they benefited tremendously from a RS season. Heck, going from a HS senior to a field that contains 20-21 year olds has to be intimidating. Plus, attending classes that are (in most cases) more rigorous than anything HS had (unless you come from an elite HS), AND then working out - weights, running, mat time, harder than you ever did in HS, and then going home to study. Let alone any sort of social life or sleeping. Yeah, Feldman will be somewhat upset, but next year he'll be bigger, stronger, faster, and more aware of the pace of events, and maybe, just maybe, say it was a good decision. Let's hope so. Sounds like this young man has a good-to-great future in a singlet.

100% spot on. A lot of people will forget that our own Logie Bear took a redshirt and I think that really benefitted from that. There are some rare examples of guys excelling their first year, but most need at least 1 RS year to get acclimated. In Feldman's case, he can especially benefit from a RS where he needs to put a few good pounds at HWT. Sounds like that has already began, but unless we have a legit chance to win a title, neither side really benefits by pulling the RS imo.

Wrestle offs recently happened and there were some surprises. The biggest is that Bryce Hepner beat No. 7 Kharchla at 165 by 2-1, huge upset there. Then Decatur beat No. 8 D'Emilio by 6-4, very surprised there as well.

Also, Heinselman just edged Gonzales 3-2 at 125. Mendez pinned Koontz in under a minute at 133 (stud). At 157 Gallagher won 4-1 over Wilcox, a nice win there for Paddy. Smith and Romero smoked their guys with a fall and a TF respectively. Hoffman handled Shumate with an easy 8-0 decision at 197. At HWT, Tater got the win but the anticipated match against Feldman didn't happen, it was against someone else...guessing there was no need to do it since Feldman is presumably getting the RS and wrestling unattached regardless of the outcome if they had wrestled.

We kick off November 7th against VA Tech in what should be a very exciting opening dual meet.

The Buckeyes do not have a national champion in the lineup, but they have a shot to have one this season. Sammy Sasso, a former finalist, is back at 149 pounds and leads the charge. Gavin Hoffman, a surprise All-American last year, came into his own at 197 pounds. Veterans Ethan Smith and Kaleb Romero are back at 174 and 184, respectively, as well. Set to make his much-anticipated debut at 157 pounds is redshirt-freshman Paddy Gallagher. Carson Kharchla and Tate Orndorff should make a lot of noise again at 165 and heavyweight, respectively.

Lots of success at the MSU Open. Guys were more aggressive on the rides with more than a few using tilts to get back points. Also improvement team-wide on escaping the ride. Of course better competition next week (VPI) will reveal just how much improvement there is. Watch out for Mendes though, the guy is as good as advertised. And Sasso who is much more aggressive offensively so far. BTW both Tate and Kharchla didn't wrestle and D'Emilio was injured (minor,I believe) in his match.

In the championship match against All-American Lucas Byrd of Illinois, neither wrestler was able to score in the opening period. Byrd escaped to start the second for a 1-0 advantage heading into the third, but Mendez evened the score with an escape late in the third and then secured the 3-2 victory by decision with a takedown.

Mendez was the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2022 and came to Columbus rather than committing to other blue-chip Big Ten programs, including Iowa, Penn State, and Michigan.

"They're building something special, and they're building a dynasty," Mendez told FloWrestling when explaining his commitment last November. "It was a close decision, but it was Ohio State for the most part...This might be the best recruiting class ever, and I wanted to be a part of it."

Calling it the best recruiting class ever isn't entirely hyperbole. In addition to Mendez, the class includes Nic Bouzakis, the No. 2 recruit in the class according to FloWrestling, Nick Feldman, the No. 3 recruit in the class and in-state standout Seth Shumate.

Ohio State wrestling lands commitment from Brock Herman, Top 20 145 lbs. prospect flips from NC State

Ohio State wrestling landed a big commitment Tuesday night in the Class of 2023. Brock Herman, originally an NC State commit, flipped to the Buckeyes in a decision that has him staying closer to home. Herman is currently a senior, hailing from Brecksville (Ohio) and wrestles for the Seasons Freestyle Club. He released a statement on social media announcing his decision.

notes..at 141 D'Emilio has an injury and may not go. Decatur may or may not redshirt. Bouzakis
many feel is too short to compete at 141 but I wouldn't count out someone with his talent and fire.
At 157 Bryce Andonian was to face Paddy (they're former St.Edward's teammates) but he's being held out.
Big break for Paddy. Match will be on Big Ten + at 7 EST.

Thanks for the projected lineups, very appreciated. Guess I'm going to have to get B1G+ because this will be a great dual. Hate that you have to order another streaming service but hey, at least there's the option for watching good wrestling. Let's put a proper beat down on the Hokies here guys.

I do hope this means you'll keep us updated on each match.

Will gladly indulge after watch dual live. I don't ever do it live because I'm too into the matches haha. We won, so I reckon that's a good start:

125: Malik beat a good opponent, I would expect him to flirt with AA but pretty much do what you expect.
133: Mendez is really, really good. But conditioning and strength are just a little ways away, a redshirt year would be great for him. Sky is seriously the limit for this kid, unreal attacks from the mat and great technique, just needs another year.
141: Bouzakis is almost identical to Mendez, he'll be a great wrestler but was wrestling up a weight and clearly doesn't have the conditioning. He'll be a great one next year, him and Mendez are going to be incredible.
149: Sasso better have a come to Jesus moment and in a major way. He looks so uninspired, out of shape and overall just doesn't seem to care. He won't even get on the podium if that's what he is going to put out. Tom Ryan needs a practice with nobody but Sasso in the room to be brutally honest.
157: Paddy is going to be a good wrestler and his talent is clear...but are we teaching leg defense or even doing cardio? We look gassed and unable to defend a leg attack. Paddy I feel like is only going to get better but hell, only 1 minute of the match looked good.
165: Kharchla wrestled a smart match and I have no complains. Brady is a tough MFer and they know each other well, so a win of any sort is a good win there.
174: Ethan wrestled a damned good match and Lewis stalled out of his mind. Bring that same match in the spring and the outcome could be different. Ethan is the one kid you know will lay it on the line every match. Man I want him to win a title so bad.
184: Romero wrestled like a stud, I hope he brings that's mentality to every match because he was a damn warrior today. I will roll with that performance every day.
197: Gavin looks like the dude we recruited now. He does that every week and we'll be happy.
HWT: Tater is a wild ride, but one I'll pay admission for in a year where nobody is beating PSU. I hope he gets as high as possible on the podium this year and passes the torch to Feldman to make a run. Really I hope all of the Big 3 (Mendez, Bouzakis and Feldman) all take a RS so we can stomp those Pedsters into the ground, and maybe below the equator.
