Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Junior World Championships are starting this week over in Russia. Two wrestlers of interest to Tom Ryan &co. that made the Team USA are Jesse Mendez and Nic Bouzakis. Mendez will wrestle at 60kg in freestyle. He is finally healthy after rehabbing his leg in June/July. Bouzakis is at 61 kg in Greco-Roman. No new reliable info on where or when they will commit but I did read a rumor that Mendez loves Ohio St.

Hard to get the full stories on these matches since Flo keeps a tight lid on things behind their paywall. Mendez did win his first round match against a Turkish opponent but was eliminated decisively in the 2nd round. Bouzakis will wrestle in Greco prelims I think the 20th. Braxton Amos who OSU was recruiting but signed with Wisconsin took gold medal in his weight class.

7 Cornell
8 NC State
8 Minnesota

WRESTLING: NO. 2 NIC BOUZAKIS GIVES OHIO STATE ITS THIRD TOP-10 COMMITMENT IN THE CLASS OF 2022

In announcing his commitment via Instagram, he emphasized his relationship with Buckeye head coach Tom Ryan: “I have grown to know Coach Ryan over the years and we have bonded with each other,” Bouzakis wrote. “We both share commonalities that strengthen our commitment to overcome challenges and persevere in the face of tragedy.”

Ryan is not new at recruiting the best in the county, and his 2022 class is shaping up to be a masterpiece. Bouzakis joins top-ranked heavyweight Nick Feldman, top-ranked 197-pounder Seth Shumate and top-20 145-pounder Gavin Brown.

Rumor mill has Mendez to either PSU or Iowa. He's visiting Iowa this weekend for Iowa's FB showdown with PSU. We'll see. In better news, twin brothers from Lancaster, Pa. Kaedyn and Kamdyn Williams have committed to OSU even though they're currently high school sophomores. Don't know where they rank nationally but they're stacking up some pretty good credentials. Kaedyn won state last year as a freshman at 106#.Also finished 4th at US Cadet Nationals in freestyle and 2nd in Greco (Coach Ryan seems to love those Greco guys}. Brother Kamdyn had a 20-0 record his freshman year but couldn't make weight at state's which was a tough lesson to learn(113#). Source from Mat Scout Willie (FLO).

Is Suriano still in the transfer portal, or is he calling it a career?

No answer yet but it's hilarious reading the Nits and Hawks fans go back and forth on message boards saying they have "inside info" that he'll be at their school 2nd semester.

edit...The Mat Wrestling website reporting Suriano will wrestle 125 for Penn St. with Bravo-Young bumping to 133 to accomodate him. Will be announced officially on Wed.

In that time of reflection, Suriano concluded Penn State wasn’t the best fit for him and decided to start the transfer process to Rutgers, a place closer to home.
“I wanted to leave. It was my decision,” he said. “I wasn’t happy with how things were being handled and the direction that things were going in. I wanted to be home. Rutgers is the best place for me. This was my decision and nobody else’s.”

Just sayin': Back in 2018 be decided Ped State wasn't the best fit for him so he transferred to Rutgers.

Several different message boards (TIFWIW) are saying the Buckeyes are getting a commitment Wed.night from Rocco Welsh, an outstanding 160#er from Pa. Also Mat Scout Willy hints at a few more commits could be coming in the near future , including one named Vinny Kilkeary who's rated #4 at 113# class of '23. Even if it's just Welsh that's a HUGE commitment for Ryan. No word yet on Mendez.
