Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Too many tweets so trying to summarize

125 - Heinselman 11-5 over Koontz
133 - Decatur 14-2 over Kue
149 - Sasso 18-2 over Stephens-Grenier
157 - Cleary 8-1 over Wilcox
174 - Romero 14-3 over Schierl
184 - Jordan pins Bell
197 - Hoffman 4-2 OT over Singletary
HWT - Orndorff 2-0 over Traub
141 - D'Emilio 6-4 over Echemendia

I don't know much, but I feel like Singletary and Echemendia losing are some shockers

You know plenty, those are two absolute shockers. I finally watched the wrestle offs and man were there some fireworks. Always tough to tell really though, these guys wrestle every day and that tightens things up. Love the fight from D'Emilio (damn good Ohio wrestler that earned his spot) and Hoffman is a pretty great wrestler in his own right and 197 is probably a better weight for him. I will say that I wouldn't be shocked to see Echemendia at 141 or Singletary at 197 by the end of the year, that's just a knock out fight at both weights. Just hoping for the best wrestler at either weight. Individual thoughts from what I watched:

125 - Heinselmann could get on the podium wrestling like that and he's clearly gained good weight, which has been his biggest issue imo...Koontz is no joke and Malik whooped him. I hope he wrestles like that going forward, kid is very talented. He looks big enough to compete at the weight now, just needs to get a little more physical.
133 - Decatur is talented, just needs to be consistent. Didn't get to see much of him last year though, I think he can easily break through.
141 - We've got 3 horses at this weight, wish one could get down to 133...the separation isn't much. I will say that D'Emilio is the real deal though, kid is super talented and I love his nonstop motor, kid never stops. Amazing inside single and brutal rider on top, amazing leg defense, that usually means an AA college wrestler and I really see that in him...kid can be a star, got the tools and drive to be special. I am telling you right now that D'Emilio is going to be legit, kid is a hammer on top and is so aware of every position he is in, I just don't think other wrestlers will know what hit them the first time he wrestles them...I expect him to knock off some of the top ranked guys to start the year.
149 - Sasso is obviously good, moving on...
157 - Wilcox is a brute and I like his physical style. Nice for the senior Cleary to get the win and I hope he excels this year, but you better watch Wilcox, that kid freaking goes and could be really good down the road.
165 - ?
174 - Romero is a savage, he is finally getting aggressive and that is going to pay off. He also looks absolutely ripped...I think we are going to see why he got that #1 ranking in HS.
184 - Rock is a tank, hope he breaks through this year...talent and wrestling knowledge is all there. He is the most talented of the Jordans from Jeff, I think we'll see it this year.
197 - Well, did NOT see that coming but hey, Hoffman is a stud, so good for him. Gavin is wrestling his true weight and I think its a great move for him, I think he can win a bunch of matches at 197 this year. He's not sucked out of energy wrestling too low of a weight and he's wrestling aggressive, I like it. Singletary is right there but I think he'll bump back up to Heavy next year.
HWT - I love me some Gas Tank Gary, but Orndorff is a damn tank...

Edit: We are really lucky to have Ryan as our coach...watched his interview after the match and damn is he awesome.

B10 sked starts Sun. the 17th with a 3 way including the Illini and Bucky Badger. I wonder if Ryan will continue 'tryouts' by using the two guys at 141,157, and 197. Maybe even hwt. Tough decision for Coach...get the new guys like Ech and Wilcox more experience or ride with the guys who won wrestleoffs.

In the interview after the wrestle offs, Ryan was making it sound like those weights are not set in stone and it could be that someone who lost the wrestle off may not start. I know that sounds like BS and you might think why even have a wrestle off, but it can be a really tough decision because sometimes your best guy doesn't win the wrestle off because the guys are so familiar with each other and it levels the playing field somewhat.

That being said, I have some trouble not giving the initial start to the guy that won the wrestle off even if it remains an open competition. At 141, it looks like D'Emilio and Ech are dead even, but I think D'Emilio is the real deal and can do really well for us at that weight even though he didn't come in with the hype that Ech did. At 157, Cleary seemed to control that match but Wilcox is clearly talented, enough so that he might catch up to Cleary this season...however, for the time being I think Cleary is the guy there. At 197 we have two guys who were both ranked #1 at their respective weights in HS and are both very talented...very different styles but I think either of Hoffman or Singletary could get on the podium. Hoffman looks much more comfortable up a weight, last year he looked drained from cutting weight. It will be very interesting to see how it shakes out and it is going to be tough with such a short season figuring out the lineup at some of these weights.

Good stuff RB. I was thinking since they're going twice in one day that Coach might use both Dylan and Ech, Cleary and Wilcox, Hoffman and Singletary, and so forth. OTOH, Ech, Wilcox, and Chase got beat. Ech at this point is way too one dimensional and you're right Dylan is better. Wilcox I think will pass Cleary eventually and it may be sooner than later. Hoffman/Singletary are pretty close and may be an all season thing.

Oh good point, didn't think about the tri meet scenario. Not sure what criteria is being used for NCAA and seeding, but the lack of matches may be something that could prevent a constant rotation, particularly in a short season. It's really a dilemma with having so many guys that are so close. I'm with you on your assessment though, Ech might need a year to work on his mat wrestling and Dylan looked really solid on top, which we've had issues with for whatever reason. Wilcox looks like a tank and the loss to Cleary was a little puzzling, so curious to see what happens there. At 197, I am wondering if maybe Singletary is cutting quite a bit? My only concern on Singletary is that he was a tweener that might not be big enough for a HWT, but have issues cutting all the way to 197...Hoffman seems much more of a natural 197, he looked like skin and bones at 184.

Enormous get at HWT, we seriously needed that one and Feldman is a serious stud...he will fit that mold of a more athletic heavyweight kind of like Snyder was (speaking style only). Plus we got him from PA, which is extra sweet. This recruiting class is downright filthy.

Feldman will need to add some 'good' weight in order to really make a huge difference at HWT for the Bucks. Just watched his match with UM fb/wrestling recruit Gaige Garcia and like you say he's kinda similar to Snyder in style but I would say needs another 20 lbs at least. Good that he has a couple years behind Orndorff before he hits the varsity mat. Now we need a mid-weight!

For sure, that was part of the Snyder comparison. I agree he needs another 20 pounds or so to be an effective heavyweight. Undersized heavyweights are getting more common but he is still a few biscuits away from being an undersized heavyweight.
