It kinda looks like they can squeeze in three mats, although it looks tight. Is that a) possible; b) the plan? Crowd will be more intimate than at St. John's. PS, hope they don't parcel out all the sports in that grand old place, else they'll find some reason to tear it down....Go Bucks

I've thought the same thing, but you have to know that Coach Ryan has mapped all that out, so I will defer to his discretion. For most meets, that capacity works...but the giant matchups like PSU? Not so sure they won't use St. John's for that. And on that note, as long as there is any alumni like myself, I will fight tooth and nail against it being torn down, no matter how hell-bent Drake is on tearing down historic places for new admin space.

You go RB! Let me know and I'll line up beside you. Go Bucks! Was done with Geiger when he wanted to develop tOSU Scarlet & Gray into houses...….

I sometimes wonder if Drake is trying to piss of the alumni, it makes no sense. I went back to campus after the Cleveland championships and almost didn't even recognize the campus. Anyways, really hoping St. Johns is regularly used for meets.

Have got the feeling it's 'His way, or the Highway', regardless of the storied tradition of tOSU. Much in the way of a resume builder, he's looking to point to the 'changes' he made, using his current position to leap-frog to another position. Remember, his previous post (Head of UC Irvine), is an up and coming techno school, without a football team. I hope the Board does NOT renew his contract at it's completion. Heck, Gordon's got a few good years left in him......go Bucks!

Gordon Gee has, and always will be, my president. Probably reserved for another thread, but bring him back.

Ohio State opened its 2022 recruiting in a big way, earning a pledge from one of the hottest names in the class.

Dublin Coffman sophomore Seth Shumate announced via Twitter that he wouldn't need a lengthy recruiting process to decide where he'll ply his trade after high school.

Shumate, the defending Ohio high school champ at 195 pounds – a title he won as a freshman, no less – made a big splash in Fargo this summer, winning the 195-pound Cadet National Championship in both freestyle and Greco-Roman.

“A couple things I did well on the mat (last) week were hand-fighting hard and keeping my feet moving at all times so my opponents were always off their game and confused,” Shumate said after his Fargo dominance. “It made things easier to come out with a win. Also, I listened to every word my coaches told me and did whatever they told me to do and that really makes a difference."

His showing at Cadet Nationals earned a lot of attention from potential college coaches, but he said via Twitter he didn't need to mull his options for long.

Shumate is ranked No. 3 overall in the Class of 2022 according to FloWrestling, and he finished his freshman campaign as No. 3 in the country at 195 pounds.

Flo noted that Ohio State is also heavily recruiting fellow Ohioans Victor Voinovich and Paddy Gallagher, and that Shumate projects to be a successor to fellow Buckeye natives Kollin Moore at 197 or Gavin Hoffman at 184. Ohio State head coach Tom Ryan is laser focused on keeping as much of that in-state talent at home as he can.

WRESTLING: OHIO STATE RELEASES BIG TEN SCHEDULE, WILL FACE IOWA AND PENN STATE ON THE ROAD

Ohio State announced its Big Ten dual-meet schedule Wednesday, featuring four home meets in the inaugural season inside Covelli Arena. The team will wrestle five conference foes on the road, including national title contenders Penn State and Iowa.

The nine-dual conference slate rounds out the team's 2019-2020 schedule; non-conference opponents were announced in mid-June. In addition to the league duals, Ohio State is also slated for home matches versus Arizona State, Cornell, Stanford and Virginia Tech, and will travel to face Pitt in mid-November.

With an eye toward showing off its new home, the Buckeyes will wrestle in Columbus the most dual meets since the 2013-2014 season.

In recent years the team has wrestled in St. John Arena or The Schott 4-6 times per season, with additional "home" duals contested in Ohio high schools or other venues around the state. This season the program is focused on showcasing what head coach Tom Ryan says is the best wrestling facility in the world.

Ohio State's full schedule presents a stiff slate for a relatively young roster. Four of the eight home duals will be contested against teams that finished in the Top 25 of the NWCA Coaches Poll last season, and all five Big Ten road opponents finished their dual-meet season ranked in the Poll.

With the schedule locked and loaded, the countdown to wrestling season begins in earnest. The home opener versus Stanford is just 67 days away.
