Puzzling addition. Team lost two forwards to transfer on an already guard heavy team. Great player but cannot imagine it helps the locker room much.

I don't profess to be an expert in NCAA women's basketball; however, the women's lineups appear to be (in some cases) different than the men's, ex. the NCAA Champion Stanford team stated 4 guards and 1 forward, etc.; so I'm not sure having a "guard heavy team" is that much of a problem/disadvantage.

Taylor Mikesell is coming back to the Big Ten to play basketball.

This time the former Jackson High School star will be doing it closer to home.

Mikesell announced her commitment to Ohio State on social media Thursday. She entered the transfer portal this week after playing one season at Oregon and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"Bet on yourself and double down," Mikesell wrote on Twitter. "I'm coming home."

Mikesell started her college career in the Big Ten at Maryland and transferred to Oregon last April. She joined a Ducks team that was 31-2 and ranked No. 2 in the nation before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the 2019-20 season.

A 5-foot-11 guard, Mikesell started 20 of Oregon's 24 games and averaged 9.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists. The Ducks slipped to 15-9 and were eliminated by Louisville in the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16.

According to The Oregonian in Portland, Mikesell is one of three guards who have left Oregon since the season ended. The newspaper has reported Taylor Chavez is on her way to Arizona, while Jaz Shelley will play at Nebraska.

Win One Lose One

Ohio State junior forward Aaliyah Patty announced on Thursday that she is transferring to Texas A&M.

Patty announced her decision on social media and becomes the second Buckeyes starter in two weeks to leave the program. On April 12, all-Big Ten forward Dorka Juhasz said she was transferring to Connecticut.

Patty started all 18 games this season, averaging 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. She was second in rebounds, behind Juhasz' 11.1 per game.

McGuff gets much-needed help


Ohio State women’s basketball coach Kevin McGuff has crossed rivalry lines to land his newest assistant, hiring Wesley Brooks, a former Michigan assistant.

“His work ethic and positive energy will put him in position to have a big impact on our program,” McGuff said in a statement.

Brooks spent four seasons as an assistant with the Wolverines and had accepted the same position at Mississippi State during the offseason before changing course and opting to join the Buckeyes instead.

“I believe Kevin McGuff is one of the best coaches in the country and the opportunity to learn from him is exciting,” he said. “In addition, I truly believe the state of Ohio is one of the deepest and richest states in the country when it comes to women’s basketball and I am excited to continue building relationships and keeping that talent at home.”

So the reason for excitement is they are getting a player that will eventually have played for every NCAA team, while losing their top player and 3 time all-conference.performer.

Well done, McGruff. Well done.
