Game Thread Ohio State vs TCU (Arlington, TX) - 09/15/18, 8:00PM (ABC)

Neither a perfect game nor the plunger I was hoping for, but we still go on the road and beat probably the highest ranked (at season's end) team we'll face all year. I'll take it. As for The Little Sisters of The Poor...........

It's not Schiano. It's Bill freaking Davis.

He's the same nepotism hire as Zach Smith.

Fuck that guy. Fire his ass. He should never have been hired in the first place. He's cancer and poison. Overrated dude who got hired because of roots and connections. He was worthless in the NFL, and he's worthless at Ohio State.

Can he evaluate talent? Yes. Can he coach that talent? FUCK NO.

Yeah, I quit being overly dramatic about Schiano but Davis should have received a termination notice at halftime.

Hearing some people say if TCU doesn't make those mistakes they could pull out the win. They played very high octane and very high risk. If they didn't play high risk, they wouldn't have made those mistakes, but they also wouldn't have had the huge plays. It would have been a 27-10 win. Most of their high risk plays payed off. When you play like that you have to factor in some of them not going their way.

Observations from the Barcalounger:
  1. Ryan Day is the real deal. Dude can coach.
  2. Dwayne Haskins is the real deal. Dude can sling it.
  3. Mike Weber and JK Dobbins are the real deal. Dudes can beat feet.
  4. Maria Taylor is the real deal. Chick is hot.
  5. Mack's struggles aside last night, Zone 6 is the real deal. Dudes can play.
  6. Dline is the real deal. Dudes can get after it even while being held and we are deep here.
  7. Oline scares me. Prince got beat multiple times.
  8. LB's scare me. Do we have any?
  9. Safeties scare me. Why is Wint on the field at all?
  10. The games are just to damn long with to many commercials. Glad I took a nap before the game.

My .02:

Offense is legit. Haskins passing threat is the perfect complement to the power spread running game. DC's now have to pick their poison and I don't think you can guess well enough to consistently stop them.

Some cause for concern on offense in short yardage and bad weather games in that when you do know they are going to run, Haskins isn't a consistent threat. Loved seeing them finally call for him to keep it because we are at game 3 and nobody was honoring the fake.

I don't think Zone 6 stepped up, I think we saw some regression. Mack had a rough one and a couple of other guys got back into body catch mode when they had all been doing so well with their hands. Failed to win a lot of 50/50 balls.

Defense

They gave up 4 TD's, 2 of which were of the big play variety that can be directly attributed to poor safety play (Pryor and Wint respectively)
It did look like they were making better runs fits and playing assignments better in the 2nd half until Wint got all turned around on that deep TD pass.

Overall they have played two FBS teams with a pulse and are giving up 30 PPG. That isn't going to cut it. It feels like 2013 in that anytime the DL doesn't make the play instantly, hold your breath because something awful is likely to happen.

ST's
kick coverage was excellent, especially given the talent of the returners
blocked a punt

FG kicker...JFC

Overall, the talent is obvious and the offense is fun. I can't seriously entertain NC conversations about a team with a defense that gives up 30 a game.
Maybe the defense will get better but losing Bosa sure as fuck isn't a step in the right direction.
I'm still in "just win The Game and the B1G" mode because I think they will drop a game and that will eliminate them from the playoffs for sure this year.

Yea a solid and consistent kicker you can count on to get you a crucial kick are as rare as a unicorn on Urban Meyer teams.

I’m not sure who the L is on our schedule. After 3 weeks of games I can’t say anyone other than PSU is a threat and obviously that games in HV. We could lay a turd against Purdue but I just don’t see any other loses. Maybe MSU gets a lucky break and we play in a slopfest in EL but I just don’t see them having the horses.

Win the game, win the B1G and we’re in the playoffs. We’ve got a strong out of conference top 15 road win that I think will look better as the year rolls on. There’s still plenty of top caliber to fringe top 25 games on the schedule. ACC is down, Pac12 is not out but they have zero margin for error. It’s Clemson, Bama, B1G champ and hopefully not another SEC team.

Doesn't bother me. Wasn't malicious. Should have made a better attempt to pull up but you're trying to make a play and the ball carrier's head is dropping as he's tackled.

Doesn't matter if it's malicious or not. It's for the safety of the players. How many times have you seen the same penalty being called and sustained for something much less egregious? Almost every game, players have been ejected for much much much less. Now if the rules have changed this season, I want at least some consistency on how it's called. So far it's not. Just watch the Utah, Washington game.
