Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

Anyways, if you're looking for an honest answer on where I think OU's weaknesses are and how they could lose this game???

Well, basically if OSU comes out and executes the same gameplan as last year in which Urban throws opposite Jordan Thomas as I still think our left side of the defensive backfield is a liability. Although a bit better than last year, but OSU could have some success on that side again.

Another would be if OSU's defensive front wins the battle at the LOS in the same level Florida dominated OU's offense in the 2008 National Title game, although UF had insane defensive tackles in comparison to OSU's defensive line right now. As well as Lincoln Riley not being as predictable with the play-calling like KW was at the time.

I believe I called for a 31-17 win a few pages back. Starting to get a tad nervous which is pretty typical for a Thursday ahead of a top 10 match up. Seems to me that OU actually matches up better with us this year than last year even though it is in the Shoe and we bring back more starters. Not gonna lie - the inexperienced secondary concerns me and Mayfield is a very good college QB who can just make things happen. Our strength at DLine matches up with their strength along the OLine. I'm not calling for a loss but this OU team is tricky to figure out. The interesting thing will be whether they can get any kind of run game going. If they don't at least have that threat then I don't think they have a shot. Our secondary will clearly be tested and won't win every battle but to me the LB play by the Buckeyes could be something to watch. I have confidence in Schiano scheme wise and Worley playing QB on the defense. Will one of the safeties step up? Big opportunity for them to make some plays. Any chance Okudah rotates in? Lots of things to look for defensively.

For some reason, despite the sluggish first half vs. IU the offensive game is less worrisome to me. Unless OU rolls out some stud I don't see coming the ground game will surely favor the Buckeyes. And, I wouldn't be surprised to see McCall getting some looks the coaches have been holding back; some misdirection or gadget plays if the 1-2 punch of Weber and Dobbins is rolling. I have a hard time seeing tOSU having trouble scoring but a shootout would worry me a bit. Regardless I don't see the Buckeyes scoring less than 35-38 but will it be enough?

Have to like our special teams play. Kick off coverage looked stellar against IU and is a vastly overlooked aspect of the game. Make Baker go 85-90 yds on each drive and I like our chances.
I'll make it easier for you to sleep...we don't lose when we outrush opponents with UFM. Only two games of the six loses with UFM still had us out rushing the team but still lost. Those games were not in the shoe either with one being in happy valley and the other in Indianapolis against MSU.

Clemson, Va Tech, MSU 15', Clemson in 16' all out rushed us when we lost those games and that just will not happen in this game.

We return our RB and QB also add Dobbins too as well as 4 of 5 on the OL. Meanwhile OU loses both their RBs and their top three WRs.

I wouldnt be surprised to see this game prove easier then the last. Not confident at all that OU will hold us under 200 yards rushing. So all the sudden OU will have the answers to stop us from going for 300 yards rushing now that they lose a starter on the DL front, start a true freshman at MLB (He's fucked in this game), and have a 210 pound OLB? I mean come on now

First off, where was that secondary versus Clemson last year, and then IU???
Would you like to try again and ask an actual question? Because this one makes no sense as it currently stands.
IU has a new coach and the same talent level as Iowa State in the Big XII, yet they put up more than 400 yards through the air. You don't think Baker Mayfield will have a similar looking performance???
I think he could, because you know, I recognize flaws. Anytime you want to admit that these are real things, it would be very welcome. Or you could keep naming every WR/RB on scholarship as though most players aren't busts in CFB, let alone fall short of being seamless replacements for Biletnikoff winners (or a tailback who some felt was the most exciting draft pick among all RBs, ignoring the landing spot).

I also don't see a lot of 6'4" and 6'5" WRs on your roster. The corners had pretty tight coverage on most snaps against Indiana, they just got manhandled by their twin towers for a half. Then OSU adjusted and Indiana had almost nothing.
And to be honest, those high school rankings are irrelevant now that those players are in college. OU and OSU have talent, no doubt. But it's still too early to count your chickens before they hatch. Right now, Lamb and Calcaterra look REALLY good for OU. Rambo is redshirting and Marquise Brown is a playmaking JUCO transfer in the mold of former OU WR Jalen Saunders. A.D. Miller was a non-contributor for much of last year, but he played well against OSU. He's now out with an injury, but OU's depth is perfectly fine at WR with Lee Morris and Mykel Jones.
They won't win games, but they're a solid macro analysis tool.
OU will be a team to be reckoned with in 2018 with Kyler Murray at QB and an improved defense and 3 starters back on the offensive line. OU is really good this year, but next year will be scary! (For teams facing OU.)
Why in 2018? Because there might be a dropoff? *audible screams and gasps from the studio audience*
Lattimore was your best play making corner you've had in a long time and he reminds everyone of Antonio Cromartie. Hard to match the level of athleticism with Lattimore and Hooker. Denzel Ward I think is your best DB this season, who's in the mold of Conley and former OSU corner Bradley Roby, but OU should match up just fine with a taller receiver lined up against him. The rest of your DBs are still unproven.
Ward covered like Roby all of last year. There's a reason scouts thought he might be OSU's 5th first round pick at corner under Urban.

Who is this taller receiver? Ward is an inch shorter than Badet and slightly heavier (and Ward's pretty thin).
I see some 6'2" guys and a 6'1 guy. Not small but not really close to Cobb (or his running mate).

I already agreed that the others are fairly green. Their debuts were a lot better than the first year efforts of the aforementioned 1st round corners (other than Roby). Apple, Conley were really rough when they started out. Lattimore was just alright.
IU with a brand new coaching staff and a QB who would only be half-decent in the Big XII is less than 10% the offense OU has right now.
10%. So they'd put up 40 yards passing per game in a league that has not played a lick of defense in many years. Yeah, it's hard to imagine why we give you such a hard time.

Last year I was kind of hoping, but I figured your coaches would expose our new corners and Barrett and Noah Brown took advantage of that.

Jeff Badet was Kentucky's leading receiver for 3 straight years...with no quarterback. Team him with Baker, and he'll be lights out.

Badet played last week, versus UTEP. Care to re-word that?

Comparing IU to ISU is laughable.

What does our performance against Clemson have anything to do With our game?

Well it's a sliver of a weakness admission, but I'll take it. As for the last part:

Florida had great ends with Trattou, Dunlap and Cunningham, the latter were 2nd round picks (Dunlap was a 1st round talent with off-field concerns, making him a perfect bengal pick).

OSU has a first rounder in Bosa (as a backup or DT), a top-2 rounder in Lewis, a top-3 rounder in Hubbard, a later pick in Holmes and the best DE in HS last year (Young) as a third stringer that's playing a lot despite that logjam.

At tackle, UF had Lawrence Marsh and Jerron Sanders. Neither was drafted.

At tackle, OSU has a first round pick next april in Dre'Mont Jones. They'll also use eventual first round pick DE Bosa inside quite a bit. Their other tackles are lower rated guys but pretty disruptive (Landers, Cornell). Highly touted true frosh Garrett is still getting his feet wet. The interior is the realm of men so I doubt he'll factor in much.

You bet. Just ask Auburn after last year's Sugar Bowl.
Dude you had both your backs who will be playing this Sunday and had three WRs better then what you will field this Saturday night.

From that game you lost 3 of your top 4 in rushing yards (Baker was third with 34 yards) and you lost 3 of your top 4 receivers from that game (Andrews was 2nd with 68 yards).

That Auburn team lost FOUR GAMES before they even got to your team and still only lost 19 to 35.
