Game Thread Ohio State vs Michigan State, 11/11/17 @ 12:00 ET (FOX)

Not in any relevant metric. This is Urban's sixth year at OSU. Saying Tressel is 5-3 at anything is meaningless by comparison.

In Tressel's first six years at OSU he...

Won two Big Ten Championships
Won one National Championship

Urban needs to win out just to match Tressel.

Again, re: relevant metric 2012 the Buckeyes were on probation because of Tressel and not eligible to play for a championship. And Urban had to win two games to win the 2014 championship. So in actuality no relevant metrics except for TTUN and wins.

>

Used to be a diehard NASCAR fan back in the day, before all the gimmicks. Darrell Waltrip was asked a few years ago about determining the best all-time driver and the value of championships in different eras using different metrics to determine that year's championship. DW said quite simply the best all-time driver should be determined by wins:

Richard Petty ~ 200

David Pearson ~ 105

Jeff Gordon ~ 93

Bobby Allison ~ 84

Darrell Waltrip ~ 83

Jimmie Johnson ~ 83

Cale Yarborough ~ 83

Dale Earnhardt ~ 76

I digress ...

Buckeye fans on Twitter are angry that Sparty is 12th in the CFP rankings while the Buckeyes are 13th. Because it really matters at this point.

Just win Saturday. Fuck the CFP rankings.

JFC...really?! Why? Do these idiots not understand beating a HIGHER ranked team makes us look better? Not to mention, if Wisky beats Iowa they're virtually guaranteed to be #5 or #6. Will they be angry when we play a Top 5 team?

Note I said WHEN...

Honestly, don’t be surprised if Iowa rolls Whisky. The Badgers have looked pretty pedestrian all year and Iowa’s confidence level is soaring right now.

Personally... I hope they can make it unscathed to the Big Ten Championship, but I just don’t see it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost to TTUN, either.

Either way, the only thing I truly care about this weekend is sending Dantonio home with a loss. I have no intentions of canceling my hotel in Indy.

With all due respect, posters don't mean jack. For example, I give you "Tressel The Gator Killer" from 2006, and the Gator eating Buckeye, same vintage.
We all know how that worked out.

Best case scenario; Buckeyes 28-24.
Worst case scenario; Sparty 42-10.

JMHO.

Hope we win. :worry: :oh:

How is that the BEST CASE scenario?! You're talking about a team is incredibly talented, yet very unpredictable...

If you're talking in abstract terms, the best case scenario is 100-0.

28-24 is YOUR guess at the final score.

Yep. I agree. I'm just trying to stay in my little bubble in which we win this weekend by 70 and everyone else loses by 70. I don't want to ruin my birthday plans crying into a pillow and punching walls.

EDIT: You also make a good point considering the Badgers have lost several key players to injuries.

I expect the opposite out of Iowa. I think there will be a major letdown after last week. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if Wisconsin shut Iowa out.

If what Iowa did to us was more of Iowa playing well than Ohio State not.....then sure. They could give Wiscy a game.

If what Iowa did to us was mostly us just fucking around and being dumb.......

This game might tell us a lot about that game. Or maybe nothing at all. Who the fuck knows anymore with this team.

So the 2007 NC game Tressel's Buckeyes just couldn't do anything effectively, eh. :panic: Indeed the same 12-0 team that many were considering the best Ohio State team of all-time having just won the game of the decade against the TTUN.

Yea, maybe the experts were correct when they said the B1G may have been a tad overrated from the years 2003-2010 hence, ergo, therefore leading to Tressel's impressive er not so impressive B1G won/loss record.

Did I mention the Buckeye's 2007 NC performance was totally unimpressive/ineffective ...

Ironically in bowl games the B1G won both head to head games against the SEC making Tressel's 2007 drubbing all the more disturbing:

Instead, I’ll use this time to remind you that Big 10 teams are 4-3 ATS thus far in the Bowl Season while SEC schools are 5-3 versus the number. However, in head-to-head matchups the Big 10 is 2-0 SU and ATS in bowl games against the SEC. Penn State and Wisconsin upset Tennessee and Arkansas, respectively, on New Year’s Day. Both won in convincing fashion, almost forcing me to down three-quarters of a bottle of Drano in the process.

The underlying theme of the Penn State and Wisconsin victories was that their raw power and solid game planning was able to suppress the faster and more athletic Southeastern clubs. I always say that football is a violent game, and that patty-cake teams don’t come through when the stakes are high and the money is flying around. This could be one of those times.

Florida certainly is a flashy squad. Their speed, on both sides of the ball, is superior to anyone they match up against and is greater than anything that the Buckeyes have faced this year. Urban Meyer is an offensive mastermind, and with over a month to plan for this game he will most likely have an intricate combination of offensive formations perfected for this game. Florida can put pressure on a defense in a variety of ways and they can hang a big number on the board if this turns into a shootout.

Yes, Urban is not perfect and has shortcomings, but have never been overly impressed w/the senator having lost many/many games the Buckeyes should have won. Bottom line: Meyer (3) NC's / Tressel (1) and one of Meyer's was a total blowout of Tressel's overconfident/unprepared/undisciplined/unfocused team.

>

And for those of you who love Tressel and will continue to do so regardless, happy trails!

That's one game, albeit a big one. I think I'll take Tressel's track record in the big games, even including 08 NC game we had zero business being in.

9-1 vs tsun
6-3 in BCS games

And the blame for the debacle vs FL lies most heavily on a shockingly overweight and ill-prepared Troy Smith, who spent the month leading up to it reportedly partying and eating a massive amount of cheeseburgers.

Iowa 44 ~ Iowa State 41 / Iowa State 38 ~ Okla 31

ped 21 ~ Iowa 19
Sparty 17 ~ Iowa 10
NW 17 ~ Iowa 10

It's a longgg season and hopefully home field advantage will help on Sat. And yes, since Meyer became head coach, the B1G has upped its game.
Also Sparty's 2013 34-24 B1G championship win was not a fluke!

btw, top recruiting classes don't mean shit. Just ask :hoke:/:harbaugh:, Tennesse/Florida State, etc.

But losing many quality players to the NFL every year does, especially re: cohesiveness. Exception: Nick Saban.
