Game Thread Ohio State vs Michigan State, 11/11/17 @ 12:00 ET (FOX)

er what Meyer did to Tressel in the 2006 NC, the game I'll always remember is 2009 home game vs USC ie a game the Buckeyes had no business losing whatsoever.

Barkley engineers winning TD drive as USC scrapes past Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Two games into his college football career, 19-year-old quarterback Matt Barkley already has a place in Southern California lore.

It was your typical Tressel game watching as a long time suffering Buckeye fan that you said to yourself ~ somehow/someway they're gonna find a way to lose this game against a true freshman qb playing his 2nd frickin' game! And Tressel had a way of never disappointing.

We now return you to Ohio State bouncing back against Sparty ...

I was in Kentucky for this game and watched the whole thing from there. I vowed to never let that happen again and I still hate everything about that state with a passion to this day.

STOP BLUFFING, DINO. Here's how much I respect Mark Dantonio this week: I have refused to call him Mike D'antoni as in years past, despite knowing at least 500 people would not get the joke.

But I'm not about to buy this malarkey he didn't know about the 16-point spread 45 seconds after knowing 16 points meant it had gone up.

Still, Vegas didn't build a 21st century Gomorra on the backs of bad lines. Oddsmakers know something we don't.

For example, Sparty will be without starting cornerback Josh Butler.

Is that enough to justify 16 points? I don't think so. But something is fishy about this line.

ROAD WARRIORS: RECAPPING OHIO STATE'S LAST SEVEN MATCHUPS AGAINST MICHIGAN STATE

OCT. 20, 2007: (NO. 1) OHIO STATE 24, MICHIGAN STATE 17 (OHIO STADIUM)

The last time the home team won in this series, Ohio State quarterback Todd Boeckman played the role of game manager while Wells took over.

Just sayin': Interesting read (article above). Recently in the series between Ohio State and Sparty the visiting team did real well. It would be a joke to take Sparty lightly this Saturday due to the 16 point spread.

Anyway, it is good to see that Parris Campbell has been cleared to play......

OHIO STATE DEFENSIVE TACKLE MICHAEL HILL SET TO RETURN FROM SUSPENSION

Fifth-year senior Michael Hill is set to return from suspension this week after missing the first six games of the 2017 season for undisclosed reasons. Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano confirmed Hill's return following practice Tuesday evening.

I'm wondering if Micheal Hill is ever going to see the playing field again, etc. You have to think he would be better than at least one of the four DT 2nd or 3rd teamers.

oh my god I forgot about those turnovers after we went up 24-0... one thing funny is how upset Boeckman was getting after every false start (which was often). So weird watching our teams from 05-10'

Ouch. I've been here as long as you dude (longer). ;-) "If you don't know me by now.... you will never ever know me..."
Seriously, I stopped checking in here so frequently over the years but this is still my go-to site for Buckeye news. I just don't post much (like since 2012 or something).
Regarding the tickets. I bought OK and MSU and figured I'd sell the one I couldn't go to. Never had an issue doing that before... until now. I went to OK and my MSU tickets have been listed under face value since. No takers. I guess OSU finally found a ticket price higher than demand.
nothing to do with price... I think with us likely out of the playoffs the demand just isn't there.

With all due respect, posters don't mean jack. For example, I give you "Tressel The Gator Killer" from 2006, and the Gator eating Buckeye, same vintage.
We all know how that worked out.

Best case scenario; Buckeyes 28-24.
Worst case scenario; Sparty 42-10.

JMHO.

Hope we win. :worry: :oh:
Sorry, but no way does Sparty put up 42 on us in The Shoe. *now waits for the obligatory "bet you said the same thing before the Iowa game" snide comment*

I am always a bit baffled by how well MSU does at times. I can almost call the plays all game long.

The Offense is very standard. The Defense is generally pretty basic and straight forward.

They completely rely on execution, toughness, and not making mistakes. Their whole game plan is generally very straight forward and basic. Most MSU losses evolve around one of these themes: Other team much more talented, MSU team made too many mistakes. But usually MSU does not make errors in execution and scheme. What MSU does not rely on is being more talented or out-athleting the other team.

Last season the team lost all focus and did not understand the key was execution and toughness.

I think that is why MSU has had so much success against OSU (relative to the rest of the B10). OSU relies on having better athletes. And when faced against a team that relies on execution it can become frustrating.

This I think is the main difference in Tressel vs Meyer teams. Tressel wanted to control the whole game and out execute you. Urban wants to just run over you with his athletes. If you ever wanted to see what it would look like if Tressel coached and against Meyer these games are a good example. The main difference is that Tressel's teams had better overall talent than these MSU teams. But the formula is similar. Execution verses Athletes is what is at odds.

When Urban gets his teams to execute they are unstoppable. But they do not always seem to be that interested, as all of you can confirm after watching them week in and week out.

Well said.

Tressel is my favorite coach in any sport, probably because I've always seen the game the way he does.

Urban certainly does stretch the line of how much to put on players. You could see it last year when the offense struggled to get lined up every game...and you saw it in the Iowa game when the defense had the same issue-55 pts was the result of 4 int and a defense that had no clue where to go all game. Tressel always gave you the impression that if his offense/defense could only do one thing effectively, they would only do that one thing.
