Ohio State vs Miami Predictions

I dont like this game against an 8 man front and a QB struggling in the pocket and with his accuracy. Defensive struggle that could go either way. Miami will be back to almost full strength and we have no identity yet again on offense. It would seem that we should work the whole week on how to prepare to beat teams when they stack the box and dare us to beat them with the pass. Our offense is missing JT and TP. Will BM get a shot to make Miami play us straight up???????? Our defense will keep it close as always. 20 to 17 either way. Go Bucks

It's somewhat critical to know whether Jordan Hall and Travis Howard are playing. It's one thing to be short-manned against Akron, or even Toledo, at home and quite another to be missing those guys on a road trip against a BCS opponent.

If I'm game planning for this OSU team I stack the box most of the time and dare the QB to make plays in the passing game. At the very least it will keep the scoring down and shorten the Buckeyes time of possession giving your team more time to move the ball. Only the better teams we play will have DBs capable of consistently covering our receivers. Miami has talent at DB and could make this work if they're at full strength. I have doubts about Miami's pass rush which could help our QBs have enough time to attack coverage. But where is our pass rush?
Will it come down to turnovers?
Will it come down to kicking and special teams?
If I'm Al Golden I play conservative and trust my kicker and special teams to win a close one.
If I'm Luke Fickel I need my passing game to make enough plays that I don't need to depend on my kicker to win it.

Eternal optimist here:

-If last week was an aberration and not the norm, then we roll.

-If we just got a preview of what our team will be until we get our stars back and BM gets seasoned, I still think we eek one out.

Reasoning:

-As bad as last week was, we still held a very potent Rocket offense to basically two scores.

-Special teams is a concern, but I don't see it being a determining factor. Reasons: our coverages thus far have been solid, I think we can stay sound on our protection and not let a kick get blocked, and Basil isn't some schmuck off the street - he'll make a kick, call down and be able to hit the short and medium kicks.

-Miami looked bad versus Maryland. I know the defense get's players back, but besides Miller rushing, everything that they did looked bad. They clearly didn't have confidence in Morris to throw the ball. And I fail to see how Harris is a step-up. He had a solid first half of his Sophomore year and has been dog poop since.

-We need to score 24 points and I'll be confident in a W. I think that we have the talent where either QB can do that. (yes, I am aware we only managed 20 against a MAC team)

24-13, good guys.

I don't know if the team is in a good state of mind after a poor performance like the one on Saturday, and they may be a little rattled early on. A lot of young guys getting their first road experience against a very athletic team. I don't even know that Miami will be that much more of a threat than Toledo was (they are in a mess, just like us), but I do know that their defense is more athletic at every position.

Our OL HAS to come out prepared to protect Bauserman, since it's clear that LF won't use Braxton as much as he needs to, or even switch to him when the offense stalls out time and again under Joe B.

If we score first, we win it. If we get down early, it might get ugly.

I can't pick against the Buckeyes. I'll say 23-20 Buckeyes (yup, Basil is making 3 FG's).

Where is this crap about Miami having a good kicker coming from?

He's played in exactly one game in his career, last week against Maryland, and went 1/1 on FG's and 3/3 on XP's, and his FG was from only 30 yards out.

Don't exactly see how that makes him a good kicker. He hasn't proven anything yet.

Right now, I'd kill for those stats.
