Game Thread Ohio State @ Purdue - 10/20/18, 7:30PM (ABC)

Warriner didn't promote himself, and he didn't fire himself for giving himself too much responsibility. That shit is ALL on Urban. He didn't replace his OC. he promoted two position coaches.

Let's talk about all the MENSA jokes. Does anyone on this board REALLY think that Ohio State could beat Texas next week? I sure don't. UT is trending upward. The same cannot be said about the Buckeyes.

Meyer had made some good hires. He's also made some COLLOSALLY bad hires. I used to talk shit about Tressel and Jim Bollman.

Forget about Zach Smith for half a moment, even though Zach Smith was an absolutely TERRIBLE hire. Fucking nepotism.

Greg Strudawa was A TERRIBLE hire. He's a "friend.' fuck this shit. It's not family. It's business.

Billy Davis? This dude has failed at every job he's ever had. But he was in Urban's wedding.

FUCK THIS GUY. AND FUCK URBAN FOR HIRING THIS GUY.

Urban has got to go.
Most people’s bad takes are in the heat of the moment, so.......good job in standing out I guess?

Wonder if Bosa's announcement took something out of these guys.. like hope
cuz there didn't seem to be a fire

We're a hospital ward right now
Jones, Landers, Borland, Arnette
Bowen, Taylor, Weber, Mack and Hill
Neurenberger

20 captains yet no leaders

I think the more simple answer is that you don't just replace Nick Bosa. Next man up is likely doing his best but they aren't all top 5 draft picks.

As far as questioning the leadership/heart of this team goes I'll just try to go back to the PSU game thread and see if anyone was questioning it after the 4th quarter come back in that environment.

Maybe that has been a fair question all year and not just a knee jerk reaction to a bad loss. Who knows?

I'm not one for questioning the heart of players - teams with no heart don't come back to win the TCU and PSU games.

Losing Bosa was huge, but the things that did us in last night have been there all season. Oregon State ripped off TDs of 49, 78, and 81 yards - with Bosa - then lost home games to Arizona and Cal in which they scored a total of 21 points (combined). TCU had a 90 yard TD and over 500 yards of offense - they're 3-4 - and now we have the Purdue debacle.

Our running has been sluggish against any defense with a pulse all season. All we've done well is pass and Purdue made us do it short, and often, all night. Our weaknesses were exploited in every way possible. I'm not sure what the answers are, we've got well paid coaches to figure that out, but I'm pretty sure doing the same things we've been doing isn't the answer.

I did not watch the game, thankfully was out with friends.. So my thoughts are as follows:

I know Urban can’t really say anything publicly because good bosses don’t air the laundry through the press, but its soo damn frustrating and leads to a lot of questions (rightly or wrongly) like: How does Urban not see what’s going on with this team? or why isn’t X happening?

we all want to win every game.... it would be nice when we do lose for NOT to be a blowout. - this is another problem lately. When we lose its by like 21+ points.

Urban the CEO clearly isn’t Urban the CEO/SVP/VP/manager/worker from Florida, and thats ok... Some of his hirings have been home runs, others have been holding a roman candle the wrong way bad. He clearly does not like to fire folks given that during his ENTIRE head coaching career Z Smith was the only fire he’s ever had.... I dont know that this is going to change with Urban as the CEO....

My only hope is he, the staff, the players walk into the Woody today or tomorrow and do a lot of tape watching and talking during the next 2 weeks and figure this shit out

This is the result of the playoff system. 4 teams only really allows for perfection. I'm happy beating *ichigan every year and can take a few losses to consider a season successful. Fans now jump ahead seasons and bitch strength of schedule from a playoff stanpoint. 1 loss and outside chance or 2 loss and no playoff chance mentality is ruining the experience for some. From a coaching standpoint, Saban has far better assistant coaches around him that are all on the same page and clicking. Don't see that here at the moment. Coaches and team not on the same page and look robotic out there.

We actually can still beat TTUN, win the B1G, and go to Pasadena. "In my day" those were the goals every year.

Not sure this team is capable, but those things are still possible.

Well I Think that's a bit extreme lol...

That said I agree with everything besides firing Urban of course.

Urbans bad hires always take 2 years from whatever position group is affected. Withers, Davis, Beck, Stud, Warriner as OC and Zach Smith. Woof.

The tolerance for such a level of misaligned play is what bugs me the most when it comes to our staff.

Didn't have an undefeated Independent team last year

This is a valid point worth considering, but I still think there’s a near zero chance a one loss SEC or BigTen champ doesn’t get in the playoff.

There might be a nightmare scenario (undefeated Bama loses SEC champ in close game AND ND goes undefeated AND Okl houses everyone included Texas in a rematch AND Clemson stays on course) Even then Okl would have to look like absolute world beaters because their resume wouldn’t stack up.

After PSU I held the belief that ANY loss before tsun meant nothing without a second. There’s no reason to feel any different today other than the negativity that a game like this brings.

Not excusing the offense and defense shortcomings but this game came down to two stupid penalties...take away the two resulting TD's and the garbage time pick 6 and you ha e a very close game in the 4th quarter. I agree it shouldn't have been that close, but these stupid penalties have to stop...it's infuriating. Can anyone point.me to a defensive tackle blocking a punt coming from the outside in the history of football?
