Game Thread Ohio State @ Purdue - 10/20/18, 7:30PM (ABC)

To each his own. A New Years Bowl now is still what it was then. A consolation prize when your team no longer had a chance to win it all. I’m still looking forward to a New Years Bowl. I think we all knew this wasn’t a playoff team. That’s what made last nights loss so easy to accept. It was embarrassing as hell but totally expected.
Absolutely. The way I looked at Purdue coming in to yesterday was even if we lose then we clearly know we weren't a playoff team anyways. So that's where I am at as well. Hopefully we can get to a similar situation as last year where are we beat Michigan, won the Big Ten, and played in a reputable bowl game

Tressel versus Meyer is a dumb sports argument. Meyer needs to figure out how to turn his Recruits who are committed to becoming pros and have them buy into a team thing.
I saw this earlier this week and I agree...

We are the UK basketball of college football... we focus on how we can help them get to the pros or life after football. Well what about being apart of a team? Pulling together for the same goals?

It’s easier to get 3 stars to commit to the team because they aren’t looking to the NFL they are using football differently.

Note to self: don't mix alcohol, your new prescription, and bad football. Fucking hell, I think that's what is meant by a bad trip. :bonk:

Other than the Bucks losing I don't recall much of what I said or did late last night, and probably don't want to. Not even going to read the shit I posted here. If anybody felt targeted, my apologies.

You promised to pay off my wife's student loan debt & buy me a new car in exchange for nothing. Unfortunately for you, I'm still going to hold you accountable for your actions. :groove2:

I get this, but also name me 4 players that the NFL scouts want to get their hands on. Dremont based on production despite his poor decision making? Chase Young based on potential? Dwayne Haskins based on one year of starting? JK Dobbins if they just watch his freshman film? None of the LBers, CBs, or safeties. The receivers will be undrafted free agents, as will a couple of bodies along the offensive line. Jeremy Ruckert was described as being the most dynamic TE Meyer has recruited has 1 catch for 13 yards on the season while the other 3 can’t go 3 plays without blowing assignments.

It didn’t look to me like OSU quit last night. It looked like they were playing with great effort, but were facing an opponent that was better than they were. As time ran low, and OSU played with greater urgency, that created additional opportunities for the opponent to exploit OSU’s weaknesses. It didn’t look to me like an issue of effort or dedication.

Like a Barrett team because that’s Meyer in a nutshell

The entire offense is predicated on the read option.

Without it, this offense simply sucks. Teams can sell out on the run and then sell out on obvious passing downs. As much fun as it is to see Haskins obliterate bad teams, this offense doesn't need a superior passing threat, they need balance. They don't have it right now and I doubt they will the rest of the season.

The other thing that this team doesn't possess is accountability within it. Leaders need to step up and emerge. I think a key point in this is this team has what like 13 captains, yet no one is truly leading. That's on UFM.

Finally, this team is soft and undisciplined and after reading some of the comments this morning, they are seriously entitled too. They might beat Nebby and Maryland but unless they do a total 180, I doubt they beat Sparty and the scUM game is going to be an epic beatdown.

This looked like the 1999 team that thought they would be able to show up and win. And to be honest, the late-era Cooper teams and this one share some of the same deficiencies along the offensive line and throughout the entire defense. Every team post-2014 (and even 2014 at times) has had warts, but this one is a full measure beyond warts.

I said it during the game and I've wondered since the very odd and honestly uncomfortable press conference where he was suspended, but I think UFM is done and just playing out the string. He looks exhausted, harried and stressed and has all year. He looks like a guy who can't wait to get out from in front of the cameras to go home and play with the grand kids.

100%

Werner and Browning would be looking like total standout studs if they were playing at ND and Bama respectively, and not because they were surrounded by more talent than they are currently either.

Laurinaitis mentioned this in a tweet last night. Pretty hard to do your job when you are getting eaten up by the O line because you are playing one yard behind the defensive line.

Upon further reflection, a few thoughts.

First, Haskins had an off night, but this loss is not on him. He's a 1st year starting QB who's played well above expectations, but it's unrealistic to think he could carry this team every single game. He needed a running game last night, and one was nowhere to be found.

The defense just plain sucks, and was finally exposed for what it is. Bosa wouldn't have made a difference.

Coaching was bad on both sides of the ball, and I'm pretty sure that--whether he realizes it or not--Urban has checked out. I said it the day of the press conference that was a guy sitting at the table who probably wasn't coming back next year.

Can we please stop with the sick kids and the terminal cancer patients. Nothing against them or what they're going through, but I tune into the foosball for a few hours to escape reality, not have its grimmest aspects shoved in my face for three hours.

So tyrion lannister?
I am sure we were prepared the best we could have been.

I'm sure we weren't.
I just think Tressel built his team with most of 3/4 star players with a few 5s sprinkled in and coached them up. Heck a lot of times it was the high end 4s and 5s that turned out to be busts even under Tressel. I think now we're too worried about individual talent and not enough about how they fit on the field. Same with the coaches.

Another thing to speak in favor of Tressel is to see how many coaches he's created out of his players. Heck Hartline is probably our best offensive position coach and it's because he was fundamentally sound and made the most of his athleticism which to be frank, is lacking compared to probably our entire wideout stable. And Marcus Freeman down at Cincinnati would be the ideal LB coach if we could run Bill Davis out of town.

I think there's something to this. Like Fickell pulling Darren Lee.
At least this wasn't one of those "what could have been" years (ie: 2015). We knew our limitations by week 3 or 4.
This will go down as one of the all-time 'what could have been' years. Haskins and Bosa for 1 year... and yeah...

Can we create a button to "×10" like something?
