Game Thread Ohio State @ Purdue - 10/20/18, 7:30PM (ABC)

Beck’s offense was absolute shit for an entire season. This was a game in the middle of probably the greatest passing offense we’ve ever had. Unless you’re saying Urban hiring incompetence is THE issue, there is a likelihood that there are different issues for different years.

You citing passing offense like that somehow absolves some of the major issues this team has presented since the level of competition has gone up is noted.

If Urban displays questionable hiring practices then I see no way you can discredit what I've said. Might have a systemic issue.

Just sayin': No one play lost the game. It was a team effort. However, those 2 personal foul penalities (i.e. roughing the punter and roughing the passer) were HUGE. They were basically tournovers (i.e. allowed Purdue to keep the ball) in which they scored touchdowns. Those scores totally changed the "complection" of the game.

Also, not being able to tackle anyone in the 4th quarter didn't help either.

Path =

First never underestimate the power of ESPN. We need Bama to win out. A one loss Bama gets in over us even without winning SEC. Then a GA or LSU. There is still a path for them to get two. The problem isn’t the loss, it’s they we lost BIG to a team a 3-3 Purdue team that lost to E. Michigan

Actually forgot that Bama could lose. In that case, yes I agree wholeheartedly with you.

Umm the oline we have next year is gonna be a bunch of guys who weren't good enough to beat out the guys we currently have. And Martell is nowhere near Haskins at this point. Although maybe he will be better for Meyer's "system"
Wow, everyone going South on this team. Admitted there’s no explanation for this loss, especially because it was a thorough plunger job.

NTL, The Game can still be won, but next year is troublesome, especially if Haskins goes early.

Oh well, I didn’t sign up for a short term contract with the Bucks.

So, I know I posted this back...I think last season or the year before in a discussion about assistants, and given that we're wondering about assistants yet again, I'll say it again. I don't understand why OSU should be (or want to be) a place where the assistant coaches are revolving doors just looking to get a stop with Urban for 2 or 3 seasons and parlay it into a HC gig. We should be able to attract and pay assistants to stay for at least a full recruiting class cycle, and frankly want it to be that way. If that's an Urban thing, I think it needs to be something Gene has a serious talk about changing the mindset of. If that isn't his "thing" but just something he's come to expect and tries to plan for, I think its time to stop it.

Clearly we've lost a lot of coaching firepower over the last few seasons and the replacements have so far proven underwhelming, if not deserving of finding their own way home from West Lafayette tonight, for some(one). Some turnover is just going to happen (Coombs, Fickell, Vrabel, all understandable and two left after decent to long stretches with the team), but expecting the top assistants to leave every two years seems...less than ideal. I know the thought is you're getting the best up and comers and at least you're getting them for two years, but I think it creates an inherent instability in the program. Kids won't ever be coached by the same people, under the same styles and philosophies for their entire time with the team, so they have to learn new schemes and styles basically every other year.

Sure, that wasn't the issue tonight, but I don't think it helps anything. Anyway, just my .02 after the embarrassment that was tonight's game.

He's got the money. He's got the god damned medical complex named after him. He's got a box at the stadium. There's no reason--there's no god damned reason, Dude--that he can't get us a stage 3 midget with tourette's syndrome to inspire the team. NO GOD DAMNED REASON!

No reason ORD - really...? I bet Saban has offers to every Tourette's syndrome cancer midget months before they even get staged.
