An update on the status of tOSU players at the Big Ten indoor championships at MSU this weekend.

Peter Kobelt and Nelson Vick, members of the Ohio State men's tennis team, returned to action Sunday at the Big Ten Indoor Singles championship. With third-round and quarterfinal wins at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing, Mich., Kobelt and Vick advanced to the semifinals and will resume action at 9 a.m. Monday.
Just like Saturday, Kobelt and Vick won back-to-back matches on Halloween en route to their run to the semifinals.
Kobelt, who is a Central Ohio native from New Albany, dominated the first set against Brendan Ruddock of Minnesota, taking the opening stanza 6-1. A 6-4 second-set victory soon followed and the Buckeye redshirt-freshman then was due up to meet Michigan's Justin Rossi. Kobelt had his hands full in the first set against Rossi, losing by a close 7-6 (3) tiebreaker decision. However, Kobelt rebounded nicely with 6-4, 6-2 wins in the second and third sets. Julian Dehn (Minnesota) is Kobelt's next opponent.
A classmate of Kobelt, Vick is making an impressive run since redshirting a season ago. Sunday, Vick, a Grafton, Wis., native handed Justin Graves of Northwestern a 6-3, 6-4 loss in his opening match. The Buckeye then posted another straight-set triumph, 6-4, 6-4, this time against Denis Bogatov of host Michigan State. Vick now will face Illinois' Stephen Hoh Monday in the semifinals.
Shuhei Uzawa, a senior from Chiba, Japan, saw his championship run come to an end when he suffered a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Spencer Wolf of Northwestern.

Blaz Rola lost his first round match in the qualifier at the Charlottesville Challenger. No word on Chase Buchanan.

OSU sends their 6th,7th, and 8th best single's players to the Big Ten Tournament and look at these wild results!
Two Buckeyes meet in the final of the Big Ten Indoor Single's final.
tOSU official tennis site

Just a week ago, two Ohio State men's tennis players met in the final of the ITA Midwest Regional. In a bit of d?j? vu, a pair of Buckeyes once again dominated the bracket, this time at the 2010 Big Ten Indoor Singles Championship. Redshirt-freshmen Peter Kobelt and Nelson Vick took to the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility courts in East Lansing, Mich., and Vick was triumphant over his classmate by a 7-6 (5), 6-3 score.
It is the first collegiate title for Vick, who joined the Buckeye squad last January. A native of Grafton, Wis., Vick rallied from a set down in the semifinals against Stephen Hoh of Illinois to secure his place in the final. After dropping the first set, 6-2, Vick posted 6-3, 6-4 scores for the semifinal win.
A Central Ohio native from New Albany, Kobelt posted a straight-set victory against Minnesota's Julian Dehn in the semifinals. Exactly one week ago, Kobelt captured his first collegiate trophy, winning the doubles title, with Matt Allare, at regionals. With that regional crown, Kobelt, along with Allare, and teammates Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola are on their way to Flushing, N.Y., for the USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships Nov. 4-7 at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Congratulations Mr. Vick!
Represent the S&G well in the Nationals, Matt, Peter, Chase and Blaz!

didn't want to post this in the off topic thread since you guys may be the most knowledgeable (a little off topic for this thread)...ok so for my last semester in college we have to do an internship (im a sports management major) and I just found one that would really suit me...

Helping setup and run the ATP tournament in Cincinnati, OH (I guess technically Mason). So definitely gonna try to get in on that since I have a big background in tennis. So would you guys have any advice for me on how to go about it to give me the best opportunity to land this internship? Thanks for any help! (and if any mods wanna move it that's fine, I just wanted to have the fine tennis folks here see it)

The USTA/ITA Indoor Intercollegiate tournament begins tomorrow.
The round of 32 singles and round of 16 doubles will be played.
Single's draw shows that Chase Buchanan received a #8 seed and a favorable bracket in the draw. He will be matched up with Tucker Vorster of Old Miss in the 1st round.

Single's draw

Blaz Rola was not as fortunate, did not receive a seed and will face the #2 seed Eric Quiqley of UKentucky in the first round tomorrow.
Double's teammates Matt Allare and Peter Kobelt will represent the Buckeyes as one of the 16 double's teams competing for the championship.
Go Bucks!

Buckeyes Prove Impressive on Day One
Ohio State men's tennis players Chase Buchanan, Blaz Rola and doubles participants Matt Allare and Peter Kobelt advanced to the next round of the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Thursday. Played at the famous USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, home to the U.S. Open, the tournament will resume Friday.
Rola definitely recorded one of the biggest wins of the day as he upset No. 2 seed Eric Quigley of Kentucky, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 6-2. Overall it was not a good first round for seeded players in general as the Buckeye was one of four unseeded participants to knock out his ranked counterpart.
Buchanan, who is seeded eighth, survived the opening round, but it took a comeback on the New Albany, Ohio, native's part to not become one of the four seeded players going home as he delivered a 6-2, 7-5 loss to Tucker Vorster of Mississippi.
Outside a dominating 8-5 win by Allare and Kobelt over Nathaniel Gery and Kevin Kung (Columbia) in the doubles bracket, the two wins by Rola and Buchanan were definitely nail-biters.
For Rola, the victory over Quigley marks his seventh-consecutive win and it also demonstrated how the freshman from Ptuj, Slovenia, can compete with some of the best collegiate tennis players in the nation. Rola and Quigley traded games, on serve, throughout the first two sets, with tiebreakers being the eventual deciding factor. Although Rola dropped the first set, 7-6 (5), he rebounded nicely with a second-set 7-6 (4) victory of his own. In the third and deciding set, Rola came out firing, taking 3-0 and 4-1 leads, before eventually winning the match. Rola now boasts a 5-1 record against nationally ranked opponents and in his last 11 matches, owns a 10-1 record. Rola's second-round match will be against Sebastian Fanselow of Pepperdine.
Buchanan was impressive in his opening set, winning 6-2 over Vorster. However, Vorster nearly rallied to even the sets up at one a piece when he took a 5-3 lead in the second set. It was then Buchanan answered with four-consecutive wins and pulled out a 7-5 victory for game, set, match. Up next for Buchanan is Jose Hernandez from North Carolina.
Continuing where they left off at the ITA regionals two weeks ago, Allare (Mason, Ohio) and Kobelt (New Albany, Ohio) won their seventh consecutive match as a tandem, beating Gery and Kung, 8-5. The Buckeye duo's next opponent is the Texas A&M pair of Jeff Dadamo and Austin Krajicek.

It has been a tough day so far for the Buckeyes,
Allare and Kobelt were tied at 6-6 with Texas A&M, but dropped serve and lost 8-6 in the quarters.
chase Buchanan also lost his round of 16 match in straight sets.
Blaz Rola is on at the time of this post against Fenselow of Pepperdine.
If he is successful, he would have little rest, the next round would be at 6:30 pm.

Go Blaz, represent the S&G well!

Blaz Rola advanced to the quarterfinals with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win over Sbastian Fanselow of Pepperdine.
After yesterday's victory over #2 Eric Quigley, and the exit of many top seeds, Blaz is favorably poised to make a major run into the ITA intercollegiate championship.
Rola will play the winner of Krajicek (Texas A&M) and Peers (Baylor) they are currently beginning a 3rd set. The quarterfinal match is scheduled for 6:30 pm tonight or 30 minutes after their present match finishes which ever comes last.
