Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

The All American qualifying single's draw is now online.
The qualifier has a field of 128 with the top 16 advancing, i.e. must win 3 matches.
First round is played today, 2nd and 3rd rounds finish tomorrow.

ITA qualifying single's draw link .

Eight Buckeyes are seeking to advance to the main draw of the single's championship this weekend.
Blaz Rola is the #3 seed in the qualifying section. I will be excited to see what level of play he brings in his first collegiate matches.
Shuhei Uzawa has a very winnable bracket.
Balazs Novak has a tough match right out of the gate with the #14 seed Alex Clayton of Stanford. Novak will need to be exceptionally sharp to advance.
Steven Williams also drew a seed in the first round.
Peter Kobelt and Nelson Vick are both qualifiers from yesterday and have a major opportunity to show Ty what kind of tennis they will bring to the team this season.
Matt Allare got a tough draw and will face the #7 seed in his first round match. Would love to see Allare put the hammer down and make some noise in this tournament. He has the potential to dominate when his game is sharp.
Finally Devin McCarthy is in the last bracket and would ultimately need to overcome the #2 seed to advance to the main draw.
Go Bucks!:oh:

The good news Kobelt :osu:beat the #6 seed from Georgia in the first round on Monday and the not so good news is Uzawa lost to a player from Rice and Novak lost to the #14 seed from Stanford. The other players have not played there first-round Monday matches.

As of this post,

Kobelt came through in straight sets, :)

McCarthy with a strong performance, :tongue2:

Allare with a huge upset of the #7 seed! Way to put that hammer down Matt! :2004:
Rola went on the court at 6pm and made quick work of his first NCAA opponent 6-0, 6-1. :highfive:

Not a bad day at the qualifiers for these 4 Buckeyes, about the others. . .
As Litl noted Novak drew a huge challenge in a strong Stanford player. Would not be at all surprised to see Thacher advance to the main draw.

Shuhei dropped a match but will still be needed in the doubles.

Vick shows so much promise. He had a good run in the pq tournament.

and finally Williams dropped his match to a tough seeded opponent.

On the positive side!
Kobelt is on a roll, he is getting a lot of court time and is obviously playing some championship caliber tennis.
Can't say enough about Matt Allare. Big win for the hammer! He just squeaked into this qualifying tournament as an alternate but brought a squeaky clean game.
Finally Rola just has the look of being really special. What a recruiting find for Coach Tucker.

Tomorrow's 2nd round matches will start at 8 am for Allare, 9 am for McCarthy, 9:30 am for Kobelt, and 10:30 am for Rola. This will keep Coach Tucker and new assistant coach Justin Kronauge actively engaged in their duties. link

This is the schedule for the qualifying doubles tournament to start tomorrow afternnon. link

Novak and McCarthy received a 9-16 seed, and will play their first round at 3 pm and if they win will play the 2nd round at 5:30 pm (Tulsa time).

Matt Allare and Shuhei did not receive a very favorable draw, and will play their first round against the #6 seeds from Georgia. Would love to see Shuhei and Allare take it to them, however they are faced with a probable first round exit.
Go Bucks!

The video feed from the All American tournament in Tulsa is not working.
However Livestats feed is.
Right now Peter Kobelt is playing on court 2 against Mihov of OK.
Livestats
Allare played at 8 am Tulsa time on court 12.
McCarthy also is playing or finished, and
Rola will face Evan King of TSUN soon.

As far as I can make out Kobelt has lost the first set of his match 6-2 and just starting the second set. McCarthy won the first set of his match but the second set just beginning.

Sort of tough to follow with so many matches and my peepers so tired.

As far as you can tell was I accurate with the first Monday match with PK beating the #6 seed from Georgia or was that an inaccurate post.

Rola will get a taste of the rivalry very soon since he plays a guy from meatChicken:tongue2: in the second round Tuesday.

Kobelt is also playing and has already won his second round match on Tuesday and I thought he lost his first-round match on Monday. Need help from Mr. Tennis:)

I think Vick lost his first round match on Monday to a guy from San Diego.
McCarthy won his second round match on Tuesday as did Allare.

A couple guys, as mentioned in the above posts, lost their first-round matches on Monday or were beaten in the first round "pre-qualifier". I think this is correct info but I am sure that Mr. Tennis will double check this information.

Thanks to the BP Mr. Tennis recruiting insider for updates on Allare, Kobelt and McCarthy :highfive: My livestat feed is not working right.

The players who lost their first round matches Monday (Novak, Williams, Vick, and Uzawa) were entered in the qualifying round consolation tournament that is being played on Tuesday. Just extra practice, excuse to miss classes  but I don't think that the winners will advance to the main draw. Consolation link

I think that livestats just indicated that Allare and Shuhei beat the #6 seeds 8-6.
Anyone have any confirmation on this?

The tourney just updated the ITA pdf results for singles.

Good news for the Buckeyes!
New Buckeye Blaz Rola is getting the hang of the rivalry, he defeated his new enemy from Tsun, Evan King by a 4-6, 7-6, 6-1 score. He will face a qualifier tomorrow to get into the main draw.

Kobelt did drop his 2nd round match in 3 sets. He has had a good run in the prequalifying and qualifying tournament.

Allare just keeps driving on, in 3 tough sets. He also faces a qualifier tomorrow for an opportunity to get to the main draw.

The big pleasant surprise for the Buckeyes has to be Devin McCarthy who needs one more win to advance to the main draw. He defeated the #13 seed in straight sets. Up tomorrow is the #2 seed.

Yes the pdf tournament results just updated and both Buckeye doubles teams advance with identical 8-6 scores.
Novak and McCarthy won and will be back in their 2nd round match against Georgia Tech.
The big upset was Allare and Uzawa over the #6 seed from Georgia. They are scheduled to play a pair from Duke shortly.

Livestats

The ITA and Tulsa don't have a live video feed of tournament action but livestats tracks the scores of play.
Buckeye fans can monitor today's action online, Allare starts at 9 am, McCarthy at 11, and Rola 11:30 am. I believe Tulsa is Central time?

Update:
Allare dropped a tough match to Kearney in straight sets.
McCarthy is on serve in the 3rd set with the #2 seed.
Rola is rolling in the 2nd set and close to advancing after cruising in the 1st set.
This afternoon doubles action begins at 2:30.

Update: Rola cruised 6-2, 6-1 and advances to the main draw.
This young man will make some noise in the ITA tournament!
McCarthy just broke Baradach and is up a break in the third set.

MacCarthy lost in three sets to a very good player from SMU. McCarthy won the first set but then got spanked in the last two sets:(
