I might be wrong but I would think that Kobelt is a redshirt freshman. I will send you a note in reference to Lippert.

You are right, :)
neither Kobelt nor Lippert played in a varsity match last year = redshirt or possibly greyshirt freshmen (depending on scholarship).

Either way they have 4 years of eligibility left.
McCarthy has 3 years left.

He has been dominating on the pro circuit, and the newest Buckeye recruit just finished another tournament with some impressive results.
Blaz Rola ranked 445 in the world ATP, competed in the F3 futures event in Austria.
He earned the #2 seed in the event and gained 5 straight victories for the ultimate tournament championship, including straight set wins in the semis and finals.
Over the last year on the pro circuit Rola has an impressive 34-13 single's record.
Buckeye fans have a reason to be genuinely excited to see how Rola's game translates to the NCAA.

Buchanan selected as one of elite 8 to earn a return to the US Open.
USTA Wildcard playoff wil be held this week.
ITA tennis
The USTA announced today that it will host a new US Open Wild Card Playoff to award a men's and women's main draw singles wild card into the 2010 US Open.
Eight men and eight women will be invited to compete for the wild cards August 18-20 at the USTA Training Center Headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla.
The USTA has held wild card playoffs since 2007 to determine wild cards into the Australian and French Opens per reciprocal agreements with Tennis Australia and the French Tennis Federation. . . .

The list of invited players is comprised of some of the country's top collegiate and junior players, as well as a number of professionals who compete primarily on the USTA Pro Circuit, including:
MEN Chase Buchanan New Albany, Ohio . . .

Play will begin each day at 10:00am ET. The men's and women's finals will be played consecutively, with the women's final starting at 10:00am on August 20, and a best-of-five set men's final to follow. The event will be free to the public throughout.

By looking at the names on the list I was wondering how many of them you recognize and what you think Chase's might be in making it to the U.S. Open.
Andrea Collarini - Boca Raton, Fla. 18 years old, Junior finalist at 2010 French Open, ranked 561, but seems to be better on clay.
Alexander Domijan - Wesley Chapel, Fla. ranked 542, turned pro and like Collarini also seems to play better on clay.
Ryan Harrison - Bradenton, Fla. 18 years old, ranked 222, turned pro in '07
Jarmere Jenkins - College Park, Ga. 19 years old, U VA student, ranked 736.
Steve Johnson - Orange, Calif. age 20 played #1 singles at USC, NCAA champion, ranked 810 ATP,
Austin Krajicek - Brandon, Fla. age 20, rank 757, has had a nice summer.
Tim Smyczek - Milwaukee, Wis. age 22 rank 196, has played on the pro circuit fairly effectively.

In my limited assessment of the chances for Chase in the qualifier for the US Open, the field is loaded! It should be a good experience for him however.
Just from first glance, Smyczek has got to be the favorite. He went 3 sets with Andy Murray in the round of 16 in LA recently.

Chase was the #8 seed and so got a tough first round draw in the US Open wild card playoff challenge.

Link

. . . Also advancing Wednesday was top-seed and world No. 196 Tim Smyczek (Milwaukee), who beat Ohio State star Chase Buchanan, 7-5, 6-0.

Enjoying the best year of his career, Smyczek, 22, has qualified for three ATP World Tour events and reached the final of two Challengers in 2010.

His ranking is high enough to earn him direct acceptance into next week?s US Open Qualifying, where three consecutive wins could propel him into the main draw.

The same is true for Smyczek this week.

"Even if I lose here, I still get to go play qualies," he said. "It?s kind of like an extra chance to get in the main draw, and I?d like to take it." . . .

There are no home matches in the fall but the Buckeyes will travel for several tournaments and competitions.
The last two scheduled competitions overlap so it will be worth watching which event will draw the OSU players.

Blaz Rola continues to climb the ATP tennis rankings.
After winning the last futures event he hit a new mark at 388.
Do I need to say again that this freshman is going to bring a new level of excitement to the Varsity Indoor Tennis Center and the Stick this year.

It will be interesting to see who Rola gets paired up with for doubles. It will be interesting to see if Tucker goes with a power team of Buchanan and Rola:io:or if Buchanan stays with his partner, I believe Marcan, from last year.

I have not seen Rola play, but based solely on ATP double's rankings, Rola and Marcan would be the "power team".:)
I hope Dino returns this year, :wink2:
He could see a surprising jump in his performance after a season of tOSU's conditioning and weight training. (Think Chase's improvement from '08 to '09).
If Dino returns, I could see double's teams of Buchanan and Marcan, Novak and Rola, Allare and Shuhei. Wow, that would be incredibly strong!

I take it that's his last chance of getting in to the open?
Chase is playing in another qualifier for entry into the US Open.
US Open WC qualifier

If you go about 2/3rds of the way down the drawsheet, you will see that Buchanan won his first round match against the #11 seed in 3 sets. Frederico Del Bonis is ranked #127 by the ATP in singles.
Congratulations Chase!
A US Open opportunity is not yet dead.
