Maybe I missed something... but where is Shuhei Uzawa in the singles matches?

Good catch! I missed him also.
On the one hand, Shuhei has been struggling somewhat at the #4 recently. McCarthy is undefeated at the #6 single's position.
I do not know for sure if there are some competitions/ladder play within the OSU practices, but it appears that McCarthy has replaced Shuhei in the single's lineup for now.
I will inquire Friday to see if some folks know if this is just to give McCarthy some experience in competition or if indeed he has passed Uzawa in the "pecking order."
It will be revealing if Shuhei reemerges when Buckeyes face TSUN on Sunday and Illinois next week.

Buckeyes prevailed with a convincing 7-0 victory over the Spartans at the Varsity Indoor tennis center this afternoon. No Buckeye single's player or doubles team dropped a set.

The win extended the OSU home win streak to 104 and the Big Ten consecutive victories to 58 straight.
Tonight at 6:30 the Buckeyes will seek to extend their home win streak to 105 straight.
BTW Coach Tucker placed Shuhei Uzawa in the #4 single's position and Shuhei came through with a straight set victory, with a 2nd set tie breaker.

Yesterday's 2nd match was also a convincing victory for the Buckeye men's tennis team as they swept the Toledo Rockets by a 5-0 count. Two matches went unfinished when the winning point(s) was secured. I think singles 5 and 6 finished simultaneously and #2 and #3 were suspended.
Tomorrow's match vs. TSUN, will be huge! TOSU, TSUN, and Illinois are undefeated and tied for first in the Big Ten Standings. Tsun has 4 players/teams ranked by the ITA. This will be a major test for the Buckeye trifecta of winning streaks.

The following is the recap of the matches yesterday from the official site

In its fourth home doubleheader of the season, the second-ranked Ohio State men's tennis team defeated Michigan State, 7-0, and Toledo, 5-0, Friday at the Ohio State University Varsity Indoor Tennis Center. The Buckeyes (23-1; 5-0 Big Ten) have now won 15 consecutive matches and improve their home win streak to 105 straight wins, dating back to 2003. . .

I noticed against Toledo that Buchanan was dropped down to #2 singles and did not play doubles. I sure hope everything is okay with him. Also, why does he always play the #2 doubles rather than the #1 or is he just used to playing with Marcan and our number and are #1 doubles guys are just more familiar with each other:huh:

Its Meatchigan day.
Buckeyes will be energized to bring their best as the two best records in the Big Ten square off at the Stickney tennis center at noon today.
among other marks on the line is the Buckeye 105 match home win streak and 58 straight Big Ten victories.
Justin Kronauge with a win in either doubles or singles will tie the all time OSU combined victory record held by Steven Moneke.
A win in both would give him 255 and set a new mark for OSU tennis.
Fans can monitor today's match vs. Tsun on:

Go Bucks!

The United States Tennis Association recently interviewed OSU's Chase Buchanan.
Following the link are some excerpts from the conversation.

USTA.com

Chase Buchanan recently took time to answer some questions for USTA.com about why he chose Ohio State, how college prepared him for his outstanding summer results in 2009, when he won the USTA Boys' 18s National Championships and reached the US Open boys' singles final, and much more.

USTA.com: You were one of the top recruits in the class of 2009 and chose to enter college early?enrolling in the spring semester of 2008. Tell us a little about the recruiting process and why you chose Ohio State.

Chase Buchanan: In the recruiting process, it was basically a done deal from the start. Being from Columbus, I grew up a Buckeye and always loved Ohio State. The major reason for me choosing Ohio State, though, was Ty Tucker. I knew what he had done with the program and knew he could help take my game to where I wanted to take it. . .

USTA.com: Over the summer, you had a pretty good run, winning the USTA Boys? 18s National Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich., and reaching the singles final of the US Open Junior Championships. Tell us a little about your experiences at those tournaments.

Chase Buchanan: This summer had some definite highlights in my career. I gained a lot of confidence from Kalamazoo and US Open juniors by beating the top players my age and playing in some huge matches. I learned a lot about what I will need to do in order to take my game to the pro level. . .

USTA.com: Did your college experience help you at these events?

Chase Buchanan: I couldn?t say enough about how Ohio State has prepared me for these events. I worked hard with Ty Tucker and was confident that I was practicing with the best guys and doing the work I needed to do in order to compete at these events. . .

USTA.com: What are your goals for yourself and for your team this season?

Chase Buchanan: My goals for myself are pretty simple ? develop the most that I can every day and do whatever I can do to help this team go as far as it can. I hope that our team can make it back to another National Championship match and come out on top. I think that if we keep getting better throughout the rest of the season we are going to be a tough team to beat.
Thank you Chase for the props for Ty, tOSU, teammates and supporters.
You have got a lot of fans pulling for you and expecially that "make it back and come out on top" goal!
Go Bucks!

That Meatchicken tasted pretty good for the Buckeyes. The only thing better would have been a nice shutout.
:io:
It might get a little tougher this coming week with the Running Rebels on the schedule. They might lose more than one set:)

Litl, I concur with the levels of vitriol against the rival! They deserve every bit of shame and disgrace tOSU can mete out.
Wins in the 20th century against TSUN in tennis were rare, in fact the record even after 13 straight victories by tOSU is still embarrassing. :!

A pre-TSUN article on the official site had these stats tOSU vs. TSUN;

Ohio State is 24-73-1 all-time vs. the Wolverines. Under 11th-year head coach Ty Tucker, the Buckeyes are 13-2 vs. Michigan, claiming the last 12 matches. Ohio State has not lost to the Wolverines since the 2000-01 campaign, dropping a 4-3 match in Ann Arbor. Last time out, the Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines, 4-1, in the second round of the NCAA Championship May 9, 2009, in Columbus.

Three observations:
1. Ty Tucker's record is a Tressel-like 14-2 vs. TSUN in the modern era.
2. The majority of those 73 victories by Tsun came during the wood racket and cat gut era, (not unlike the tOSU-tSUN football records skewed by the leather helmet preWW2 football competitions).
3. Prior to Tucker, the winning percentage of OSU men's tennis vs. TSUN was worse than John Cooper's winning percentage vs. TSUN!:(

The most recent ITA rankings were released today, and in spite of an undefeated week, tOSU dropped in the team rankings from 2nd to 5th. :(
ITA rankings April 13
This is not a huge matter since it is early. It would be advantageous for tOSU to be at #2 or #3 ranking prior to the NCAA team championships to avoid potentially facing #1 Virginia in the semis.
Buchanan and Marcan also got a nice bump in the ITA doubles rankings released today (#16).

How does that even happen? You travel to ND and beat them handily, then you beat Michigan without a problem, yet drop 3 spots? wth?

Thank you for caring 24, I don't feel so isolated in my own outrage.
The ITA offers an explanation that is IMHO neither clear nor satisfactory--under the title of Frequently Asked Questions--emphasis on "Frequently Asked."
ITA FAQ
Page 4: How do the team computer rankings work? With a poorly worded explanation.

and Page 5: Is the team computer formula a secret?

Is the computer formula a secret?
NO. but since Joe Bag of donuts wouldn't understand it, we don't give it to anyone except the NCAA coaches and then it will take an ITA staff member to explain it, and we will conduct an aggressive campaign to "arm" the coaches with as much information as they want, and since we have received so many complaints about the formula, when you find something you think will work better, tell us and we will do that. :shake:

In the NCAA tournament, the flaws of the ranking system won't really matter as much because the team championship will be contested on the courts.
Seeding will happen, but the champion will be determined by a 64 team tournament much like in March Madness.

The Buckeyes have been polled in the ITA Top 10 for 113 consecutive matches. That streak began March 7, 2006.
Five Buckeyes are in the Top 125 of the Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings released Tuesday. In singles, sophomore Chase Buchanan remains 12th. Senior co-captain Justin Kronauge is No. 41, while freshman Dino Marcan is No. 91. Sophomores Steven Williams and Devin McCarthy are Nos. 108 and 117, respectively. . . In doubles, Buchanan and Marcan are No. 16.

THE OLE MISS REBELS
Ole Miss, ranked 18th in the country, is 15-5 overall this year with a 6-4 mark in SEC play. Last weekend, the Rebels defeated Auburn (5-2) April 9 and Alabama (4-3) April 11 to claim the team's ninth-consecutive SEC West Championship. The team has been ranked as high as 11th this season.

Here is how the Big Ten looks entering this weekends huge match with undefeated and 17th ranked Illinois.

I don't want to get fixated on the ITA computer flaws, but how the #7 and #8 single's players at tOSU get ranked by ITA ahead of the #4, #5, and #6 players on tOSU is suspicious. :roll1:
As stated earlier today's match with Ole Miss may be monitored on Livestats.
