A total of six Buckeyes were ranked in the Oracle ITA Preseason Collegiate Rankings which were announced on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Chris Diaz is the highest-ranked Buckeye at No. 29 in the singles rankings.

Diaz, who was a unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection last season, was a perfect 10-0 in B1G matches as a junior and finished the year ranked No. 53. He is joined in the singles rankings by sophomore Mikael Torpegaard at No. 32. Torpegaard was selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship last spring after a stellar freshman campaign that saw him finish with a 24-13 mark overall and earn Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors.

Juniors Ralf Steinbach and Herkko Pollanen will also start the year ranked. Steinbach is ranked No. 63 while Pollanen checks in at No. 93. Sophomore Hugo Di Feo, who did not compete last year as a freshman, is ranked No. 10 on the ITA Freshman/Newcomers list.

In doubles, the Buckeyes have a pair of teams in the top 60. Steinbach and freshman Martin Joyce are ranked No. 19 and Diaz and Di Feo are tied for 53rd. Joyce was named the 2015 National Boys High School Player of the Year.

This match is a "Group I, Europe/Africa, Relegation Play-off". Apparently both Denmark and Spain already lost to Russia so they won't be advancing. It looks like Denmark's "A-Team" might be Nielsen & Pedersen.

Re: Nadal will hope he gets Spain off to a good start in the singles, which begin at 4pm when he takes on Mikael Torpegaard, the world number 909

I'm guessing here Pedersen pulled out and/or Denmark just want to give Torpegaard some "Davis Cup experience" in a match vs Nadal (#7) they knew they wouldn't win. Anyway it looks like Torpegaard gets to play Ferrer (#8) in the R5 match.

I believe X OSU player Rola is going to be playing for the Serbian Davis cup team.

Rola is from Slovenia. He has played for their Davis Cup team in the past, though.

He's currently doing well at Challenger in the U.S.

He's also doing great in doubles at the same tournament with his former partner at OSU, Chase Buchanan. They are in the finals and might face another former Buckeye, Connor Smith, who's in the Semis.

There's a Challenger in Columbus this weekend, featuring lots of current/former Buckeyes.

Including Hugo Di Feo.

Two former Buckeye doubles pairs have advanced to the semis of the Columbus Challenger.
Both teams of Peter Kobelt and Conner Smith, and Blaz Rola and Chase Buchanan have upset seeded teams to get into today's semis.

Looks like Blaz Rola and Chase Buchanan won it. Also, looks like Buchanan picked up quarterfinalist money in the singles.

One of the most memorable double's matches ever at the Columbus Challenger finals was played yesterday.
In a third set tiebreaker, former Buckeyes Rola and Buchanan won by a 19-17 score.
It is common for servers to hold serve in breakers, but in this tie breaker servers prevailed from 7-7,
with the former Buckeyes getting an edge at 17 all and holding for the 19-17 win.
this is the 2nd staright challenger final win for Rola and Buchanan.
Next week Oct. 3-12, ten Buckeyes will travel to the ITA All American tournament in Tulsa.
Entry list is found at:

Main draw for singles starts today

11:30A Chris Diaz vs. Marco Micolani, Arkansas
11:30A Hugo di Feo vs Or Ram-Harel, Tulsa
12:30P Mikael Torpegaard vs Arthur Rinderknech, Texas A&M

I think Hugo has a good draw for a solid run

Doubles
1:30P Martin Joyce-Ralf Steinbach vs Gorannson/Lakat, Cal
3:30P Herko Pollanen-Mikael Torpegaard vs Mansouri/Seraphim, Wake Forest

WF's squad is seeded 4th so tougher draw, should be an interesting few days

Buckeyes placed 2 singles players, Di Feo, and Diaz in the round of 16 at the ita all American tournament.
Also new Buckete Martin Joyce teamed with Ralph Steinbach to upset the number 1 tourney seed from Georgia To advance to the doubles round of 16.
And qualifiers Pollanen and Torpegaard appear just now to have advanced with a 3rd set breaker over San Diego.

Buckeyes with a strong and deep run at the ITA tourney.
Impressive finish for Torpegaard as he ran through the consolation draw, upsetting some higher seeds and with the win earns an invite to nyc for the USTA fall national indoor tournament.
Di Feo and Diaz also had deep runs in the main draw.
And 2 doubles teams advanced to the quarters of the main doubles draw.
Next up are the Midwest regional tournament, south Bend Indiana, in 2 weeks with singles and doubles winners receiving auto invites to the national indoors.
