From the official tennis site.

Blaz Rola, a sophomore on the No. 2 Ohio State men?s tennis team, was named the Big Ten Conference Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Rola, a native of Slovenia, has now earned seven conference weekly honors, including six laurels during the 2011-12 season.
Rola and the Buckeyes will resume action in Columbus this weekend at the new Ohio State University Outdoor Tennis Center. The Scarlet and Gray will host Nebraska at 6 p.m. Friday before a doubleheader Sunday. Ohio State will welcome Iowa at noon and then Youngstown State at 5 p.m.*
During the Buckeyes? stretch of three road matches in a span of seven days, Rola, ranked sixth in the nation in singles, recorded three wins at No. 1 singles and doubles combined and a victory at No. 2 singles for a 4-0 record. For the season, Rola is 24-3 overall (16-1 dual) in singles play and 31-3 overall (16-2 dual) in doubles.
At Georgia March 21, Rola defeated No. 8 Will Spencer 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles before teaming with senior Chase Buchanan to down No. 31 Ignacio Toboada and Hernus Pieters 8-3 on court one. The No. 1- ranked Buckeye tandem followed that impressive performance with an 8-6 victory at Indiana vs. Jeremy Langer and Isade Juneau at No. 1 doubles March 25. After his doubles victory in Bloomington, Rola played No. 2 singles and beat Josh MacTaggart 6-1, 6-2. . .

Dumb question--and maybe I'm using the old football poll logic if #2 loses to #4, even if at #4's place and no matter how close the game, you drop below them--but do you think the pollsters thought that the match was so close and then fact it was at a hostile Georgia venue, they considered it essentially a wash?

Not a dumb question, ITA does not use a human poll, just a crazy computer formula for ranking teams.
Seems like every year the Buckeyes get the short end of the deal in the rankings, and this year is shaping up to be a difficult challenge for avoiding the #4 seed in the NCAA team tournament.
The ITA rankings are based on a top secret computer formula that rewards teams for victories over the 10 highest ranked opponents.
Extra points are awarded for road wins, some points are deducted for losses.
OSU will not have much opportunity to add to its point total because of teams left on its schedule, only a victory over #18 Illinois will add to the 10 highest ranked team total.
Georgia, Virginia, UCLA, Duke and Stanford will all have multiple opportunities to add some major computer points.
The OSU margin of lead over #3 Georgia and #4 Virginia is small, less than 3 points.

Interesting--if you read the press release carefully, the person who wrote it said that Rola played singles before doubles at Georgia...

But in any case, congrats to Blaz, and :gobucks3::gobucks4:

Buckeyes prevail over #70 ranked Nebraska at the Varsity tennis center.
Recap from the official tennis site.

The six-time defending Big Ten champion and No. 2 Ohio State men?s tennis team (21-2; 4-0 Big Ten) defeated 70th-ranked Nebraska (7-9, 0-3) 6-1 Friday at the Varsity Indoor Tennis Center. It was the first meeting between the two schools as members of the Big Ten, with the Cornhuskers in their inaugural season as members of the conference. With the victory, the Buckeyes moved to 4-0 in the Big Ten this season, extending their conference win streak to 83 matches.
The victory over the Huskers extended Ohio State?s home win streak to 141 matches, including a 14-0 mark this season.

Nelson Vick secured the Buckeye victory by allowing just one point (sic) in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 singles to give Ohio State a 4-0 advantage and a guaranteed win. Vick, competing in only his fifth dual match, controlled the tempo and flow of the entire match en route to a 4-1 spring record and 8-4 mark overall. It was the redshirt-freshman?s first time competing on court six this season.
The Buckeyes have now met Nebraska twice, winning both matchups, with the previous contest a 6-1 Ohio State victory during the 2001-02 season.
The Scarlet and Gray earned their 22nd doubles point out of 23 chances with victories at all three positions vs. Nebraska.
Peter Kobelt and Chase Buchanan teamed up for the second time this spring and first time at the No. 2 position to defeat Nebraska?s Robert Schulze and Andre Stenger 8-3. The Buckeye duo, ranked 31st nationally, remained unbeaten at 7-0 for the year.
Devin McCarthy and Ille Van Engelen, ranked 39th nationally, netted the doubles point for the home team after a big 8-5 win over No. 17 Christopher Aumueller and Benedict Lindheim. It was the Ohio State pair?s 24th victory of the season and fourth consecutive win, moving to 4-1 at the No. 1 position.
Concluding doubles play, Blaz Rola andConnor Smith were 8-4 winners on court three vs. Stefan Gollner and Eric Sock. It was Rola and Smith?s first time teaming up during dual play, but they are 5-1 overall for the year.

Buchanan, the two-time defending Big Ten Athlete of the Year and 12th-ranked player nationally, extended the Buckeye lead to 2-0 with a convincing 6-0, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 singles over Lindheim, ranked 95th nationally. The senior captain moved to 17-6 with the win.
With his 16th win of the season, Kobelt came back from a 4-1 deficit and reeled off five consecutive points in the second set of his match with Stenger to defeat the Cornhusker 6-2, 6-4 and give Ohio State a commanding and almost insurmountable 3-0 lead.
?After being down 4-1, I knew it was going to be tough to comeback, especially since he serves the ball so well,? said Kobelt, ?But I figured if I could return his serves and get a few points I?d be all right and that?s what happened. I?m thrilled to get the victory and help out our team.?
In other singles action, McCarthy was a decisive winner on court four after a 6-2, 6-4 win vs. Schulze. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native earned his 20th victory on the season in only his fifth start at the No. 4 position.
Hunter Callahan moved to 6-0 this spring with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles, while Rola lost 10-5 in a third-set tiebreaker to No. 79 Aumueller snapping his 10-match win streak.
Up next, Ohio State will continue its homestand with a doubleheader Sunday. The first match with Big Ten foe, Iowa, will begin at noon at the new outdoor Varsity Tennis Courts. The Buckeyes will meet Youngstown State at 5 p.m. . . .

I thought it was a cool choice by Tucker to play McCarthy and Van Engelen at the #1 doubles spot yesterday so that they could get a win against a ranked team, which might move them up from their #39 spot. I believe the top 32 teams make the NCAA doubles tournament, so by them beating the #19 team yesterday they will probably gain some valuable points. Since Rola and Buchanan are already sure to get a spot, it won't matter that they didn't have that 1st court matchup to bolster their ranking.

In other news, I saw where Kentucky beat Georgia. That has to help us stay more secure at the #2 spot, since Georgia would have gotten valuable points with a win over Kentucky.

Go Bucks!!

Good observation cBucks!

Actually the double's rankings are quite a mixture of duplicate players.

Because a player can only play on one double's team, when the championship draw for the NCAA's occurs, the Buckeye duo of McCarthy and VanEngelen may only have to add a few positions to qualify.
Just a quick glance at the last

NCAA/ITA double's rankings

#1 and #31 cancel because of Chase Buchanan,
#5 and #15 include Steve Johnson,
#6 and #26 Henrique Cunha.
#23 and #34 Ignacio Taboda.

Would love to see McCarthy and VanEngelen make a strong run at the computer points and qualify for the NCAA's.
