The Ohio State men?s tennis team (14-1) will return to the road to take on No. 29 Notre Dame (11-5) at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Eck Tennis Pavilion in South Bend, Ind. This marks the 33rd-consecutive season the two squads have met, dating back to the 1978-79 season....
Scouting the Irish
Notre Dame currently sits at 11-5 overall for its spring season and enters the match with the Buckeyes with momentum, having won four its last five dual matches. Almost half of the Irish?s played schedule has been against schools from the Big Ten, having faced seven schools which Ohio State will meet later in the year. They are 4-3 in those contests, earning wins against Northwestern (No. 62), Michigan (28), Wisconsin and Michigan State (56). Losses came vs. Illinois (No. 17) and twice against Indiana (29), including the first round of the ITA National Indoors Championship.
The Irish began the season 3-0 with wins against Illinois State, Toledo and William & Mary and also have defeated No. 39 Wake Forest, No. 44 Cornell, IUPUI and Marquette. Their two losses against non-Big Ten teams have come at the hands of No. 10 Duke and No. 6 Kentucky.
Notre Dame is led by seniors Casey Watt, Sam Keeton, Niall Fitzgerald and juniors Billy Pecor and Spencer Talmadge. Sophomore Greg Andrews is the lone ranked singles player on the team, entering the match vs. the Buckeyes as the 45th-ranked player nationally. The Irish have no ranked doubles teams.
Ohio State vs. Notre Dame
The Buckeyes are 27-26 all-time against the Fighting Irish, although under the direction of
Ty Tucker, Ohio State leads the series 8-4. The two teams met twice last season, with Ohio State winning both. In the regular season meeting on April 13, 2011, the Buckeyes were victorious 5-2 in Columbus. A little more than a month later on May 13, Ohio State and Notre Dame met in the NCAA Second Round, with the Buckeyes shutting out the Irish 4-0, while serving as hosts.
Ohio State has won the previous six meetings dating back to the 2005-06 season where the Buckeyes fell 5-2 at Notre Dame....

The Buckeyes will return home after a six-day break to take on the 15th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies at 6 p.m. Friday, March 9 at the Varsity Tennis Center. Ohio State will also host a pair of two teams March 11, including its Big Ten home opener vs. Penn State at 12 p.m. and a non-conference bout vs. Northwestern Ohio at 5 p.m.
