The Ita released their 2nd rankings of single's and double's of the 2012 season and 5 Buckeye single's players and 4 Buckeye double's teams made the rankings.

Single's Rankings

#107 Connor Smith
#99 Ilie VanEngelen
#65 Devin McCarthy
#16 Chase Buchanan
#12 Blaz Rola
I know it is Coach Tucker's decision to play which players at which position but I guess I don't understand why Kobelt has played quite a few matches at #3 singles but he is not ranked above any of the other singles players. Maybe he is a sacrificial lamb:wink:

Looks like that was the toughest doubles point for OSU in some time..a split on the first two and the final match went to a tiebreaker.

Nice win....this team is very enjoyable to follow!

Texas A&M will be a little stiffer challenge and we might even work up a lather against them:)

The issue at #3 is not just a "sacrificial lamb" or even as we used to call it back in the day--"sandbagging".
I am fairly certain that in the intrasquad competition, Kobelt has topped the others for the privilege of #3 spot.
The level of competition for #3 has to be fairly tight.
Last year Van Engelen "won" the #3 spot over Allare, McCarthy Novak et. al. and did not have as strong of record as the others.
Unfortunately other teams #3 players are usually stronger.

Regarding tomorrow's match--
Kentucky defeated Texas A&M in the other first round match, 4-0 so Buckeyes will face the Cats in the quarters tomorrow.

The ITA website has a recap of all yesterday's action including an insight into how close the double's match was yesterday vs. Texas.
LINK
On the stadium courts, the Longhorns pushed the Buckeyes to the limit in doubles play. Ohio State claimed the first spot, but Texas countered by taking the second position. At the third spot, the Buckeyes? Peter Kobelt and Conor Smith were tied at 6-6 with the Longhorns? Sudanwa Sitaram and Daniel Whitehead. A missed overhead gave Sitaram and Whitehead a break for 7-6 and a chance to serve out the doubles point, but Kobelt and Smith played a solid return game to even the score at 7-7. The match eventually went into a tiebreak, where the servers struggled early on. The Ohio State duo tightened up their play in the second half of the tiebreak, taking it seven points to four.

The Buckeyes were able to carry over the momentum into singles action, claiming four first sets. At the fourth position, No. 99 in the Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings Ille Van Engelen moved Ohio State one point closer to victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win. No. 12 Blaz Rola was next to complete his match, taking out No. 69 Daniel Whitehead 6-0, 6-3 at the second spot. It was No. 65 Devin McCarthy who would deliver the final point for the 4-0 sweep, defeating Chris Camillone 6-3, 6-2.

?The doubles point is important in every match,? Ohio State head coach Ty Tucker explained. ?We had some early momentum at No. 1 and No. 3, but gave it back at No. 3. Texas served for the match, maybe got a little tight, but we played a good game to break. We were able to play a good tiebreak in the end. In singles, we got out to some 3-0 leads, 4-0 leads. Our guys were able to breathe a little easier at that point.?

Today's ITA quarterfinal match vs. Kentucky starts at 9 am.
The Wildcats are definitely a team with firepower.
The UK starting lineup is all ranked in the top 125 ITA rankings, with 3 in the top 20!
Buckeyes have often had an advantage at the bottom of the lineup, 4-6 --not today.:(

Buchanan and rola dropped their first set.
Kobelt down a break at 5-2.
McCarthy won his first set.
Van Engelen up 5-4 in first
Smith up 4-3 in first.
Looks like Bucks will depend on the bottom of the lineup to pull out a tough W.

Litl is spot on!
I am not able to get the serve indicator to work on the livestats, but it appears Rola and Kobelt are down a break in the 2nd set. Buchanan and McCarthy are up a break.
UK #2 is very tough matchup test top to bottom,
Rola has his hands full, but was hoping that Blaz could get a jump start for his game this weekend.

Buchanan was up 4-1, now 4-3.
Quigley is extremely tough but Chase seems to have turned it up.:)
McCarthy was up 5-2 in the 2nd, looking to close it out, now 5-4. Bring it home Devin.:wink2:
Blaz seems to be fighting back.:)
We really do need Smith and VanEngelen to come through.
Anyone h\ave a live feed where the currently serving indicator is working!
My feed has the indicator stuck over in the 3rd doubles that DNF.:(
