Buckeyes will have their hands full with a very talented Cavalier team and a vocal, hostile environment this afternnon at 3:30.
If the good guys are to advance,
Gracelhink predicts they absolutely must capture the double's point. They will need to get a victory at #1 dubs and either of #2 or #3.
If they get the doubles point then single's will be made more manageable, but will still be a difficult challenge.
Buchanan at #1 will face possibly the premiere player in the NCAA in Jarmere Jenkins. Jenkins has beaten both Chase and Blaz Rola consistently in the past. Buchanan however, may have the best opportunity of any top of the order (#1-3) Buckeye to gain a W.
At #2 Blaz Rola will face Alex Domijan who was UVa's best player last year. Domijan has been downright Dominant at the ITA nationals.
At #3 is UVa Freshman Mitchell Frank who won both NCAA tournaments in the fall and is ranked the #1 player in the ITA/NCAA. Peter Kobelt will be challenged to not get blown out/make a match of #3 competition. his chances of winning are slim and I don't think Coach Tucker is counting on getting a victory at #3.
UVA's Drew Courtney is the best #4 player in the NCAA. Ilie Van Engelen will need to be exceptionally sharp to get an upset over Courtney.
At #5 singles, Uva's Justin Shane is ranked #37 in the ITA but he may be vulnerable if OSU's #65 ranked Devin McCarthy can control the match.
At #6 Connor Smith has been playing well. I like his chances to get a victory over Uriquen. That could make a huge difference in the outcome of the match.
So to recap, Buckeyes must win the double's point and get an upset at #1 or #4 and then must win 5 and 6 to advance to the finals.
It is not impossible and anytime Ty Tucker is on the sidelines I like our chances.
