Not quite a whitewash but a 6-1 victory over the 11th ranked Illini is quite an impressive Easter effort.

The following excerpt is from the official site's report of the victory over Illinois.

On a windy afternoon, the No. 3 Ohio State men?s tennis team moved into sole possession of first place in the Big Ten with a 6-1 victory over No. 11 Illinois Sunday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill. The Buckeyes have now won 17-consecutive matches and finish their road schedule with a perfect 12-0 record.

Ohio State (25-1; 8-0 Big Ten) is now 31-54-1 against Illinois (18-6; 7-1 Big Ten). However, under current head coach Ty Tucker, the Buckeyes have won four-consecutive matches against the Illini, winning eight of the last nine meetings.

?Anytime you get a win against Illinois, especially in tough conditions with 20 mph winds, it?s great,? Tucker said. ?It was a good effort by our guys today.?

Highlighting the competition was senior tri-captain Steven Moneke tying for the No. 1 spot in the program?s all-time wins list with former Buckeye Vince Ng (1993-03) with 132-career victories. Moneke, ranked eighth in the latest ITA polls, defeated No. 42 Kalmanovich in a third-set super tiebreaker 7-6 (7-3), 0-6, 1-0 (12-10), at No. 2 singles. Moneke improves to 31-4 overall and 9-1 at No. 2 singles. . .

The Buckeyes return to Columbus to finish out the 2008-09 regular season with three home matches next weekend. Ohio State welcomes Northwestern at 3 p.m. April 17 followed by a doubleheader beginning at noon April 19 against Wisconsin and Wright State.

Outstanding news for the (25-1) tOSU men's squad, after a successful week they have jumped to 2nd place in the most recent ITA rankings.
This is a strong position to earn a 2 or 3 seed for the ITA team tournament.
The victory over Illinois was a critical factor in jumping Mississippi and putting further distance over "the field."
TOSU has no chance of catching #1 Virginia before the tourney, as the Cavs have completed their season at 26-0.

Sorry, Litl, can't help you with that, it has left me scratching my head many times.
The ranking averages are computerized, but the criteria for awarding team points are not listed on the website.

Here are the individual single's rankings just released.

Basically as each week goes by the computer looks at quality wins and adds a win for each week, and by the NCAA's it us up the best 9 quality wins. Losses are also counted, but quality wins is the supposedly the most defining factor.

After reading that, it seems highly possible that Ohio State might be ranked number one by the voters at the end of the season since UVA has no more matches and Ohio State can only improve themselves by beating teams. However, I guess it doesn't really matter because the computers will determine the final rankings for the NCAA.

Thank you agent 87 for that super secret info and a big clue to the mystery that has confused and befuddled this board for months!
(Especially since the ITA does not want to reveal their formula to the press, general public or average internet fan).

So far the 9 best quality wins for the Bucks are:
#5 Baylor,
#9 Ucla
#11 Illinois
#12 Kentucky
#13 Texas A& M
#17 Pepperdine (X2)
#20 Wake Forest
#21 Univ. Washington
or #27 Va Tech if the 2nd win over Pepperdine doesn't count.

Unfortunately tOSU won't get any more quality wins against its 3 scheduled opponents.
By contrast the U of Virginia has no losses and slightly better quality wins.
UVA wins against:
#4 Georgia.
#6 Tennessee
#9 UCLA
#11 Illinois
#12 Kentucky
#14 Texas
#16 Florida State
#19 Boise State
#20 Wake Forest.
