At the University of Kentucky the new home of coach John Calipari, and the Boone Tennis Complex, the ITA 5th ranked Ohio State University Men's tennis team completed a 5-2 victory over the 13th ranked University of Kentucky Wildcats of the SEC.

Winners for the Buckeyes were #3 singles Steven Moneke, #4 singles Justin Kronauge, #5 singles Balazs Novak, and #6 singles Matt Allare, all in straight sets.

The doubles point was secured with a victory by Koniecko and Uzawa at 3rd doubles and the #1 doubles team of Moneke and Kronauge came from behind to capture a 9-8 victory with a tie breaker 7 points to 2.
Next up for the Buckeyes is a trip up north, first to MSU on Saturday then to TSUN, Sunday.
Against that latter school up north, The Ohio State University is seeking to continue its most recent winning ways. The weasels have not been kind to the Buckeyes, however, as the all time record stands at 19-73 in favor of the bad guys.
Go Bucks do us all proud in THE GAME.

BIG 10! BIG 10! BIG 10! BIG 10!

Some nice hard volleys at the net should take down a couple weasels on Sunday:biggrin2:

Just a note in his tenure at tOSU coach Ty Tucker is 7-2 against TSUN.
The only losses coming in 2000 and 2001 his first two years as head coach and both by 3-4 final scores.
Since that time tOSU has 7 straight wins and has outscored TSUN 44-5 in those 7 victories.
Sounds like this guy takes serious this rivalry and is all about getting under some skunk skin.

Actually Woody, serious!

Ohio State Coach Woody Hayes - More Woody Stories and Quotes

"We were at Michigan, away, in '75. We're sittin' there at the lunch room in the hotel, and it's so quiet you couldn't hear anything. You couldn't even hear the forks clickin'. It was just dead silence... your stomach's up in your throat. You're playin' Michigan. Everyone's nervous -- national TV, Big Ten championship. All of a sudden, Woody hits his glass with his fork. Any time he hits his glass, you sit up.
"'Maitre d', maitre d',' he's yellin' at the top of his lungs.
"I said to someone sittin' next to me, 'What's he doin'?'
"He goes, 'I want all of the cooks out of the back to come out here and serve my men, and I want these co-eds who were planted here by Bo to go in the back.' And, I mean, these girls who were waitin' on us were beautiful. Then he said, 'Men, Bo infiltrated our lunchroom today. He put these girls here to get your mind off the game, but I caught it. I just want to let you know the kind of guy you're playin' against tomorrow.' "I was laughin' so hard at him -- inside, because you can't laugh outside.

He was serious. You should've seen the freshmen and the sophomores who didn't know about him. Next thing you know, there's chatter. Guys're talkin'. He took the pressure off. He got everybody [censored]ed, and we beat the (expletive) out of 'em, 21-14. You believe that? That's what he did. He sensed the tenseness. Then from then on, everybody was talkin': 'That (expletive). He sent those girls in here to take our mind off the game.' He turned the whole lunch around, and we went out there and kicked (expletive) the next day. Tactical warfare. That was him. He was the captain of the ship. That's vintage Woody."

Buchanan is now enrolled at Ohio State. When did that happen:huh: and why the L:(

His first match was a loss at Pepperdine, March 23, 2009, right after the start of Spring quarter.
This is the copy of his OSU record so far.

Ty really threw him out there into the meat of the order, at #2 singles he plays in front of the #8 ITA ranked Moneke and third singles displaces the #18 ranked Kronauge.
The talent and potential are there, just not the collegiate match experience.

I guess I understand but I didn't think the #1 ranked juniors player in the United States would have that much difficulty adjusting to the college game but I guess it is like every sport. They are probably bigger and stronger and perhaps even better conditioned. I really don't know.

It seems obvious that Ty is anticipating that Chase will take over the no.1 singles position when Brian and Steven graduate in June.
Justin may be a factor in that competition.
The jump for Chase to collegiate level competition even after being no. 1 in the junior USTA ratings is still significant.
The sheer volume of international players at D1a schools has raised the level of play among the Intercollegiate Tennis Association schools.
ITA competition has almost become a feeder program for the men's tour.

Unbelievably the OSU men's tennis team (22-1) jumped in the latest ITA rankings from 5th to 3rd place! :)

They passed Georgia (18-2) and Tennessee (18-3) even though The Dawgs and Vols both went undefeated last week.
Guess that OSU victory over the SEC (Kentucky) on 4/1 carried more weight than we realized. :yow1:

April 7, 2009 - ITA DI Men's Team Rankings

Would love to see tOSU close out the season with W's and be in prime position to enter the Ncaa tourney with a 3 seed.
Illinois at 6-0 in the B10 stands in the direct path of this possibility.
This will be a huge showdown on Easter at Champaign Urbana! The B10 championship will be determined by this head to head match with these two undefeateds.
Before Illinois however is a Friday afternnon match at #43 Indiana.:osu:
