Ohio State Men's Ice Hockey (2019 B1G Champions)

Lost 5-3 at Minnesota last night. This is the first game I've watched this season, and this is a good, well-coached team (ranked 10th) with a realistic shot at making the tournament. I'm pretty happy. Rematch is on BTN tonight for anyone wanting to flip channels with the foosball.

As soon as you start paying attention to them they lose. I was going to post last week about them being ranked #10 but I knew better. When they start off slow, like last season, they seem to do better as the season progresses. This season they look good early so we need to be careful with our expectations.

True, but they came out and plungered Gopher 8-3. Game was on btn2go, so I watched on my laptop while the foosball was on. Team bounced back from a tough loss and really looked great. They have some time off now and get Fredo in Columbus on NYE which could be a statement game, even though Fredo is in a bit of a rebuilding year.

@ORD_Buckeye Guess who we lost to on New Year's Eve when no one was paying attention

Ohio State lost on New Year’s Eve. I know we were all dreading hearing those words, but unfortunately, that awful outcome has emerged from the cold corpse of 2016. That’s right, the team whose outcome we were all looking for with baited breath on December 31, the Ohio State hockey team, lost to Miami, 6-3 on Saturday.

Leading scorer Tanner Laczynski missed the game to play for the United States U20 World Junior Championship team, so the Buckeyes came in shorthanded, and still ended up leading going into the third period, but were blown off the ice in that deciding frame.

And despite that lead, this game was about as discouraging as you could have possibly imagined, especially for a team coming off nearly a month long layoff with their last game being a big 8-3 win over typical heavyweight Minnesota. The Buckeyes didn’t have a single player with more than three shots on goal and as a team, only registered 15 on goal. It’s not as though OSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead and went into a shell early, which would partially explain that.

Announced today that they're taking Fredo(OH) off the schedule. Bitch move if you ask me. They've owned us for the last decade, and it sure makes it look like we're dodging them, particularly if we continue to play BG.

That does not make any sense whatsoever especially since,, as you stated, we are going to continue to play BG. Just makes us look like we are afraid of playing them. I wonder who made this decision.

Michigan and the Domers have dumped them off the schedule too, so maybe it's a Big Ten thing to marginalize programs in the B10 footprint, and Fredo is more of a threat than BG. Are Cheese and Gopher dropping their old WCHA rivals from their schedules too?

In any event, I don't like it. It's literally the only real sports rivalry we have with an in-state school albeit a lopsided one for the last decade.

I always thought we should try and steal their coach......but YIKES!!!!

Third on the list was Miami's Head Ice Hockey Coach, Enrico Blasi, who was paid $404,500.

Rohlik,Steve: $266,375

Pretty pathetic in an athletic department that takes a subsidy of over $20M a year. Then again, Fredo ain't' got much going for them these days other than the ice hockey. In any event, we were never going to steal him regardless of what Fredo is paying him. He might have left for a job like Minny or tsun but not for our program and the lack of attention that Gene Smith has shown it.
