Another IU fan stopping by. Hoping for a good injury-free game and *maybe* a big upset, but we'll obviously have to execute extremely well. And that might not be enough if OSU plays lights-out.
This IU team probably has the most talent depth and potential that I've seen in 20 years following the team, but we may be a year away from being able to upset a Michigan/OSU/Penn State. Penix doesn't have a lot of game experience against this level of competition (he played a quarter or two last year against Penn State before he got hurt) and we're in the first year of a new offensive scheme. A lot of solid/good Big Ten players but I don't think there's one guy at the offensive skill positions that's enough of a match-up problem to really open things up.
I think we'll do okay pass-blocking. Run game hasn't been a strength so far.
We have a fair amount of experience but this will be the first or second big game for a lot of our more talented players, especially on defense. D-Line has been improving but is a question mark in terms of being able to get pressure. Back seven is the caliber where they could get to a Top 25 defense if we had a pass rush, but they've been sloppy tackling early. Deeper team on defense than I can remember.
Kicking has been excellent so far. We'll see how the coverage units and return units do against a much, much better opponent. I really like David Ellis (true freshman) as a returner.
I'll leave with with this Wannstedt hot take from BTN last night (that I don't agree with). But to even go there says a lot about Penix (who is a pass-first QB).
wannstedt is out of his mind. there's a reason he's not coaching anymore. randle el was probably the most elusive and crafty qb in the history of the big ten. just go watch some youtube highlights and be entertained
